The Fundacin Esperanza assists by providing children with supplies, never with money.

We give training and advice but never prescribe. The personel assists the patient while directing him/her to and endocrinologist.

We have an obligation to treat the children and their families well. Every personel that gives training classes must be trained in diabetes.

PROGRAMS11Youth Camps Since 2008 we have held educational camps. The objective of the camps is training diabetic youth in the management of their illness. Classes are held covering topics from psycology to basic diabetic survival themes. The camps are staffed with endocrinologists, pediatric endocrinologists, nutricionists, psycologists, social workers, as well as educators in diabetes. The camp lasts 3 days and occurs once a year in recreational areas around the state of Jalisco. Around 60 youth (ages 13-21) attend each camp.

The cost per youth is $ 2,500 (approximately $200 USD)

Since 2008 we have held educational camps for children and parents of diabetics. The objective of the camps is training diabetics and their parents in the management of their illness. Classes are held covering topics from psycology to basic diabetic survival themes. The camps are staffed with endocrinologists, pediatric endocrinologists, nutricionists, psycologists, social workers, as well as educators in diabetes. The camp lasts 3 days and occurs twice a year in recreational areas around the state of Jalisco. Around 30 children (ages 3-12) accompanied by one parent attend each camp. Until this day we have done 22 educational camps for children and adolescents with diabetes.The cost per child and one family member is $3,000 pesos (approximatly $240)

13Parent TrainingPatients and their families are educated through lectures, workshops and activities. 24 themes pertaining to the knowledge and treatment of type 1 diabetes are covered. The knowledge gained by these classes gives the students tools to help maintain a good control of diabetes as well as avoiding or delaying complications caused by their illness. We currently have two locations where training is given. The first is located at the diabetic association with an average assistance of 15 families.The second is held in another area of town and also has an average assistance of 15 families. Both groups meet weekly.

14Training in hospitals12 themes are taught per year in 3 different hospitals;1.-Pediatra Centro Medico de Occidente (4 sessions per month)2.-Hospital 110 IMSS (1 session per month)3.-Hospital 180 IMSS Tlajomulco de Ziga (1 session per month)

These classes incorporate the medics recommendations and clarifying any of the patients doubts about how to control their diabetes. An average of 10 families assist each session.
