The Excretory System
Function: To remove wastes from the body
Digestive OrgansLarge Intestine: It reabsorbs water
from indigestable food and then expels it from the body as feces
Liver: Filters toxins like ammonia
Respiratory OrgansThe lungs remove
carbon dioxide from the body when you exhale
Oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between the alveoli and the capillaries that surround them.
SkinSmall amounts of antibodies,
urea, ammonia, lactic acid, and vitamin C are removed through sweating
Salt (sodium chloride NaCl) is lost when you sweat
Sweat is 99% water and comes from blood plasma filtration
Urinary SystemThe kidneys filter the
blood and remove nitrogen-containing metabolic wastes, toxins and drugs and expel them in urine.
They also maintain the proper balance between water and salts, and between acids and bases.
