FULP/FULPS On the available ship's lists no one was located who could be positively identified as George Fulp/Fulps, the subject of this study. George Fulps may have been the Georg Vol pp who arrived at the port of Philadelphia 25 September 1751 on the ship Phoenix. 1 In this instance the spelling of the surname is most nearly identical to the reference to him (Volp) in the Moravian' s obituary for him. 2 Another possibility is that he may have been the Jorg Peter Vogt who arrived on the Patience 19 September 1749. 3 As the Revolutionary War pension application of Fulp son Michael gives Michael's birthplace as Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 4 the family must have resided there before coming to North Carolina. It has not been possible to determine exactly when that move took place, but at least by 1776. 5 The records searched have revealed nothing of the Fulps' stay in Lancaster. George Fulp was born in Europe about 1718 and died in October 1786 in Surrey County, North Carolina. His burial was presided over by a member of the Moravian Brotherhood. George was referred to as a friend of the Brethren indicating that he was not actually Moravian, but was sympathetic to the denomination. 6 Named in George's Surry County will were his wife Mary and children Michael, Catharine, Mary, Valentine and Peter. 7 It is not known if wife Mary was the mother of all the children nor when she died. From the Michael Fulp/Phebe Fulp applications for a pension based on his Revolutionary War service comes the information that Michael was born in April 1755 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and died 7 May 1836 in Stokes County, North Carolina. Michael's wife is identified as Phebe Scott and their marriage place and date as Stokes County, North Carolina, 20 August 1777. Also included is the following definitive list of their children which included their birth dates: George, Valentine, Jane, Phebe, Sally, Solomon, Peter, Elizabeth, Polly (Mary), Anna, Abigail and Michael. 8 George and Phebe (Scott) Pulp' s daughter Anna was born 10 March 1796. 9 In Stokes County 20 October 1819 Anna Fulp married Richard Studdard, 10 son of John and Charity (Linville) Studdard. 11 Probably about December 1827 Richard and Anna, along with a group of Linville relatives, moved to Shelby County, Indiana. 12 Presumably Richard and Anna died there sometime after 1840, 13 but no record of their deaths was found. 1 Ralph Beaver Strassburger, Pennsylvania German Pioneers: A Publication of the Original Lists of Arrivals in the Port of Philadelphia from 1727 to 1808, 2 vols ., ed. FULP/FULPS

On the available ship's lists no one was located who could be positively identified as George Fulp/Fulps, the subject of this study. George Fulps may have been the Georg Vol pp who arrived at the port of Philadelphia 25 September 1751 on the ship Phoenix. 1 In this instance the spelling of the surname is most nearly identical to the reference to him (Volp) in the Moravian' s obituary for him. 2 Another possibility is that he may have been the Jorg Peter Vogt who arrived on the Patience 19 September 1749. 3 As the Revolutionary War pension application of Fulp son Michael gives Michael's birthplace as Lancaster County, Pennsylvania,4 the family must have resided there before coming to North Carolina.

George was referred to as a friend of the Brethren indicating that he was not actually Moravian, but was sympathetic to the denomination.6

Named in George 's Surry County will were his wife Mary and children Michael, Catharine, Mary, Valentine and Peter.

George and Phebe (Scott) Pulp' s daughter Anna was born 10 March 1796.9 In Stokes County 20 October 1819 Anna Fulp married Richard Studdard, 10 son of John and Charity (Linville) Studdard. 11 Probably about December 1827 Richard and Anna, along with a group of Linville relatives, moved to Shelby County, Indiana. 12 Presumably Richard and Anna died there sometime after 1840, 13 but no record of their deaths was found.

possibility is that on the same ship was Johan Bernard Fehr [Barnabus Fare/Fair] whose family was associated with the Fulps and the Linvilles in North Carolina. Also the name "Peter" was prevalent in the Fulp family .

NOTES

l. It has been suggested that Nancy and Rebecca Locke were the same person; this compiler offers no opinion.

2. In the 1880 U.S. Census for Hendricks County, IN, (Series T9, Roll 283, p. 518B) is found a Michael Fulp, aged 82, born North Carolina, a pauper, living in an asylum. It is not known if he could have been the Michael Fulp, child number 12 of this family.
