Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark has decided to introduce a newly built LRV network. The contract for the
implementation (infrastructure, signalling, rolling stock and maintenance) has been awarded to the ASAL consortium with
Stadler as the vehicle manufacturer and maintainer of the rolling stock. The fleet of 14 Variobahn and 12 Tango are operated
within the newly built light rail network within the city of Aarhus with line extensions of 60km to the north east and 30 km
to the south. The bi-directional vehicles for Aarhus have a floor height of 385 millimetres (100% low-floor). Fleet Highlights:
The Variobahn is a modern, modular tram system with a high level of flexibility in terms of length, width, gauge and catenary
voltage. The Tango-type tram-trains supplied by Stadler for city and suburban traffic in Aarhus are modern, multiple-unit,
100% low-floor vehicles with a modular design. The overall design of the vehicles addresses the challenging route conditions
that occur in the agglomeration traffic, in historic city centres and in combination with dense inner-city traffic.
