Outstanding educationBy coming to Darlington College we can assure
your son or daughter of an outstanding
education, as in May 2009 we were awarded
“Grade 1 Outstanding” by Ofsted and
subsequently gained Beacon Status.
Vocational qualifications vs. A LevelsWe offer a range of vocational qualifications
which are a great equivalent to A Levels*.
Vocational learning is a practical approach to
learning, teaching the skills that will directly
benefit your son/daughter in the workplace.
More and more employers are supporting
vocational qualifications and value the work
experience and skills that students from
vocational courses bring.
* A level 3 diploma is worth 2 A Levels, whilst a level 3extended diploma is worth 3 A Levels. They both carry UCAS points and are a direct route to university.
First classWe are first class – our facilities are designed to
simulate real working environments, with a
restaurant open to the public, a fully
operational hair and beauty salon, and fully
kitted out industry standard workshops – our
students benefit greatly by our facilities.
Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)Some areas of the college require protective
equipment, such as catering, hairdressing and
beauty therapy and construction. More
information will be given to your son/daughter
at interview and PPE can be ordered directly
through the college. All uniforms and
protective clothing remains the responsibility of
your son/daughter and if lost, it will need to be
replaced. Your son/daughter must have the
correct PPE otherwise entry into the workshops
or other areas will not be permitted without
the correct clothing. There is financial support
available in some areas to help purchase PPE.
See page 9 for detail.
Parents’ eveningsThe college holds regular parents’ evenings
which will give you the chance to meet
tutors and ask any questions you may have.
Progress reports are sent three times a year.
SafeguardingStudent safety is always at the top of our
agenda. The college has a safeguarding
policy that is rigorously enforced and all
matters relating to it are of the utmost
importance to us.
Every student mattersWe take the wellbeing and safety of all our
students, and our commitments under the
Every Child Matters agenda, very seriously.
We strive to ensure a safe and welcoming
environment in college, and have safeguarding
and anti-bullying policies in place to ensure
that young people and vulnerable adults
studying with us do so in a safe and secure
environment.
Valuable information whilst your child is studying at college.
It’s time for your son or daughter to decide on their future career, and we can help by leading
them on the correct course of study. We want our students to succeed and will do all that we can
to make sure that they do.
