Jim Karels, State Forester and Director of the Florida Forest Service, will provide an overview of the damage created by Hurricane Michael’s destructive run through the Panhandle in October 2018. He will also share the latest information on what is being done to help the area recover from the Category 5 storm.
Eben N. Broadbent, PhD, an assistant professor of forest ecology & geomatics in UF’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation, co-directs the Spatial Ecology and Conservation Lab and the GatorEye Unpiloted Flying Laboratory. He will highlight how this technology and derived data can integrate with field & satellite data to provide new insights into forest dynamics.
Jessica Ireland (left) and Elise Cassie of Project Learning Tree®, the environmental education program of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® , will provide forest industry professionals and forest landowners with tools and strategies to teach youth about forestry in an unbiased and engaging way.
Tom Harrison, a Certified Public Accountant with Lannigan & Associates, PC, will help land owners better understand the ins and outs of timber taxation and will explain the best ways to handle hurricane casualty losses.
Marshall Thomas is president of F&W Forestry Services, Inc., one of the nation’s oldest and largest forest management & consulting firms. Widely respected for his economic acumen, he will provide a forecast for the forest industry in the Southeast, with a special focus on Florida.
