relevant skills
interestsOther than design, I like to look at new shoes online, take crazy perspective photos, try new stuff to eat, take joy rides, and take my beagle out for walks.
MESHo1 - IDEA SubmissionMESHo1 selected one of my projects to be submitted to the IDSA IDEA awards under the athletic category.
MESHo1 - Reebok Mens Basketball Shorts Took 2nd place in this hand sketch competition. The objective was to design three basketball shorts that look great and gave athletes the advantage to win.
achievements
professional goalTo work in a seasoned team that shares my passion for designing products centered around the human experience.
1. Shoes are hard to put on and kids just force their feet into them.2. Shoes are taken on and off throughout the day.3. It is tedious to put shoes on and takes a lot of time to lace them up.
research
1. How might we design a product that may assist a parent that only has one free hand?
2. How might we give them better organization?
3. How might we accommodate for growth?
4. How might we design a product that is versatile and multifunctional?
5. How do we design a product that retains its use after the child has grown up?
exploration
The answer has always been laces or Velcro, but stretchable straps can make it more efficient.

As a group, we were assigned to do a product analysis on a vacuum covering all of these sections.

individualresearch
The final design was based heavily on the opportunity found while doing this market placement.
The market needed a vacuum that had a wand, looked less like an appliance, and had a more sculpture-like form.
opportunity
EurekaEureka Quick-Up rates the highest in looking more like a furniture piece than an appliance, while still being honest.
Dirt Devil
Dirt Devil Kone’s design resembles more of a sculpture than an actual vacuum making it easier to leave anywhere.
Dyson DC35 is the only handheld vacuum with an attachable wand to make it a stick vacuum as well.Dyson
The problem I found while researching existing products is that most vacuums look like cheap appliances.
ideation
Conducted user testing to find if aesthetics follows function.

revisions
The hardest part was getting all the components to fit such as the batteries, motor, and dust bin.

A door is located at the bottom for the dirt bin. A button is located right next to it underneath as well. The button is flush so there wouldn’t be a risk of it being pressed accidentally.
EmptyingHandheld or StickNow you can vacuum a countertop or car, than attach the wand and clean your floors or drapes.
And because its so easy to detach, you can store it away in seperate pieces.
In the center of the power button holds a LED. That LED tells you when you vacuum is:

inspiration
We used geometric triangular shapesto make our products more cohesive later in the process.
In Philadelphia, we came up with 30 concepts in only two days. Back in San Jose we had to narrow it down to two final concepts.
mock ups
My group and I refined these three decisions, ultimately focusing on the first and second concepts.

branding
We researched each companies’ design language in order to relate our concepts to them.

My car’s black and it shows ALL the scratches on the door because of my dog, and there isn’t anything on the market to help me.
opportunity
Behind all the design and research, entrepreneurs must also understand the business side as well.

The Nazi party wasn’t thrilled with this cheerleader of ‘un-German’ design. Soon after coming into power, they raided his home and upon the discovery of materials they deemed improper, temporarily imprisoned him.
He was later helped through the kindness of a police officer whom was able to help him secure a passport, therefore a passage out of Germany. Tschichold and his family relocated to Switzerland, twenty years before the Inter-national Typographic Style would begin.

The challenge with the forms and surfaces of this shoe lies in its asymmetry. The details drew me in.
I knew designers don’t use CAD for shoes but it taught me that orthographics are important when getting them made.
