1 N を o V （transitive）　a direct object of a transitive verbを o is used to indicate the direct object of a transitive verb.

■ 肉にく

を　食た

べます。 Niku o tabemasu.　I eat meat.＊を o and お o are pronounced the same. The former is used only in writing the particle.

2 N が あります ga arimasu　There is…This sentence pattern is used to indicate the existence or presence of things. The thing in such a sentence is treated as the subject and marked with the particle が ga. あります arimasu is used when what is present is inanimate or does not move by itself. Things, plants and places belong to this category.

■ コンピュータが　あります。 Konpyuuta ga arimasu. There is a computer.

■ 桜さくら

が　あります。 Sakura ga arimasu. There are cherry trees.

3 Quantifiers （numbers with counter suffixes）They are usually put before the verbs they modify. However, this is not always the case with length of time.→ See page 38.

■ たれが　ふたつ　あります。 Tare ga futatsu arimasu. There are two sauces.

Counting：ひとつ hitotsu, ふたつ futatsu,……とお tooThis is the ordinary system for counting things. Eleven and higher are counted by using the numbers themselves.
