TRANSCRIPT
In The Beginning
The first filter was an air filter. A little tractor company called “John Deere” was selling engines and rebuild components hand over fist.
Frank Donaldson noticed that contaminated air was “dusting” engines in their tractors. So he designed an “air filter” using Spanish Moss and horse hair.
In 1915 Donaldson Filtration was founded and for the first time, filters went into production.
Today, filters are designed to optimise cleaning efficiency, cost and weight. Filters are used to preserve engine life and are available for virtually every fluid on the planet.
Stanadyne Fuel Manager
The Fuel Manager system is widely used by over 70 OEMs Globally including; Iveco, CNH, John Deere, Mack, Kubota, Perkins, Volvo, GM and Caterpillar.
More recently, the 4x4 market in Australia has come to know the Fuel Manager from Direction Plus as a way of protecting valuable engines in some of the harshest conditions on the planet.
Fuel Manager offers the following benefits:Superior water separating abilities, especially suspended water.Proprietary keyways to ensure only genuine elements are used.Ease of installation. Different micron ratings for pre-filter and final filter applications.Marine grades.Tool-less replacement of components.Clear bowls for easy viewing.Range of options including lift pumps, primers and heaters.

Coarse Filtration Vs. Fine Filtration?
Take this filter, it obviously has small holes and for the purpose of this illustration, we will assume this filter is a 2 micron filter.
This filter has much larger holes or pores. For this illustration , this is our 30 micron filter.
Fuel Manager filters are made from organically grown compounds and are grown until they achieve the desired Micron Rating. But to make it easier to explain, we will use the blue diagrams.
Coarse Filtration Vs. Fine Filtration?
Ideally we want the end result of the filtration to ensure that we have the finest filtration possible for our diesel fuel.
So lets look at the benefits of having a final 2 micron filter and a “pre-filter” which is 30 micron.

Coarse Filtration Vs. Fine Filtration?
One of the great features of the Fuel Manager range is that you can tailor the Micron rating to suit your needs. From 2 Microns right up to 150 Microns the Fuel Manager range can be carefully chosen to suit the application.
We use 30 Micron Fuel Manager filters in the Direction Plus Kits for the following reasons:
A 30 Micron Pre Filter does not introduce excessive flow restrictions that can cause hunting, loss of power or fuel starvation issues. We Leave the original OE filter to handler the finer and final filtration Superior water stripping abilitiesIncreased protection by having the second filter inline Increase the life of the original filter by taking out the larger particles firstModular system that can be easily upgraded i.e. Add a water sensor or hand primerVisual sight bowl to easily see if you are collecting water
Contaminants
Contaminants are any foreign body or molecule which is not in the actual diesel composition. This includes:Dirt and rocksDustRust & scaleYeastsMouldBacteria AlgaeWater Acids

Water Vs. Engines
Diesel fuel contains lubrication agents which the diesel injection system relies upon for its lubrication.
Rust and other corrosion is also a by product of water contamination.
Internal moving parts in low and high pressure pumps and injectors are very susceptible to water contamination and catastrophic failure is a typical result.
