National banks in your district operating branches as of June 30, 1926, based on reports submitted by you as of June 1924, supplemented by information received from the Comptroller of the Currency or obtained from the Bankers Directory. 2. State member banks in your district operating branches as of June 30, 1926, based on reports submitted by you as of June 1924, supplemented by data shown on the June 30, 1926, condition reports, form 105, or obtained v from the Bankers Directory. 3• All nonmember banks operating branches as of December 31, 1925, in the following states whose capitals lie within your district, except banks which became members during the first six months of this year, based on reports submitted by you as of June 1924 and December 1925, supplemented by data obtained from the Bankers Directory: It will be noted that the l i s t s show or call for the location and name of the parent bank; the location, name or street address, type, and date and method of establishment of each branch; and whether the nonmember banks are stock, mutual savings, or private banks. Much of the data called for is not shown, not being available at the Board's offices. It will be appreciated if jtou will kindly have all of the data verified or corrected and brought up to date as of June 30, 1926, supplying such information re- garding each branch as is called for but not shown, and inserting any banks which operate branches but which are not listed. When completed the statement should, so far as data are available, conform to the style of the enclosed sample sheet. The original copy of the statement with all corrections and additions noted thereon should be returned to the Board. In the t h i r d column are to "be shown the year in which the branch was opened f o r bus iness , together with the month and date where r e a d i l y ava i l ab le , a lso the manner i n which the branch was e s t ab l i shed - whether "de novo" (by the present opera t ing bank) or o the r -wise. If not e s t ab l i shed "de novo" by the present bank, the date should represent t ha t on which i t became a branch of such bank, and the name, c a p i t a l and depos i t s of the bank which was converted i n t o a branch should be given, or so much of the data as i s r ead i ly ava i l ab le . If the branch was formerly operated by*another bank, t h i s f a c t should be shown in the manner ind ica ted on the sample sheet , and i t should a lso be s t a t ed whether the branch was o r i g i n a l l y e s t ab l i shed "de novo" (as a branch), or whether i t was o r i g i n a l l y an independent bank. In case a bank or branch i s loca ted i n an out ly ing sect ion of a c i t y , care should be taken to see tha t the name of the c i t y or town i s given as the l oca t i on , followed by the name of the subdivision in parenthes is i f p r a c t i c a b l e , as , f o r example, Los Angeles (Hollywood) or Mow York (Brooklyn).

In .order to enable the Board to maintain a complete up- to -da te record of branch banks in operat ion in the United S ta t e s , i t w i l l be apprec ia ted i f you w i l l k indly f u r n i s h u s , as soon as p rac t i cab le a f t e r June 30 and December 31 of each year , with a r e p o r t , i n accordance with the enclosed sample form, covering a l l branches e s t ab l i shed during the six-month per iod ( inc luding branches taken over by one bank from another) by na t iona l and s t a t e member banks in your d i s t r i c t , and by a l l nonmember banks i n the above-mentioned s t a t e s ; a l i s t of branches discontinued, showing the date and method of d i s -continuance in each case; and a l i s t of f u l l - f l e d g e d branches changed to t e l l e r ' s windows, and v ice versa .

The Board a l so wishes to b r ing up to date the information regarding chain banking received i n 1922 in response to i t s l e t t e r X-35^9 October 31, 1922. I t w i l l accordingly be apprecia ted i f you w i l l accompany your repor t on branch banks with as complete a statement as p rac t i cab le on chain banking in your d i s t r i c t , g iving the name by which each chain i s genera l ly known, by whom the c o n t r o l l i n g i n t e r e s t i s he ld , the character and degree of cont ro l exercised, the name and loca t ion of each bank belonging to the chain, and such other information regarding the func t ions of the chain groups as you now have avai lable or may be able to obtain r ead i l y .
