Application Procedure for fischer Reinforcement System FRS

    SURFACE INSPECTION

The structures or elements to be applied with the fischerReinforcement System FRS must be properly surveyedfor damages and irregularities prior to application of thecarbon fiber sheets. Any corroding reinforcing bars mustbe identified and repaired or provided with corrosionresistant material.

    SURFACE PREPARATION

All cracks should be first injected with an appropriateepoxy resin injection such as fischer FC-13 epoxysystem.

Concrete defects like spalling or honeycomb should berepaired with an appropriate concrete repair system.

Water leakage into the structure needs to be identifiedand repaired prior to the application of fischerReinforcement System FRS. Water conveyance may berequired.

The concrete surface should to be clean, dry andsound. All laitance and other surface contaminantsshould be removed by mechanical means such as sand

blasting, grinding or water blasting. The actual methodto be employed will depend on the condition thesurface.

All surface irregularities and defects shall be groundedsmooth. Surface irregularities of less than 4mm can befilled with fischer FRS-CB mixed with silica sand to forma grout mix and irregularities between 4mm to 20mmcan be smoothened using fischer EC Plaster. Allconcrete angles shall be rounded to no less than R =20mm. Internal angles should be smoothened.

    PRIMING

The ficher EC Primer are specially developed for usewith the fischer Reinforcement System FRS to improveadhesion of the FRS-CB to the concrete substrate. Donot thin fischer EC Primer. Mix the primer using asuitable paddle for 5 minutes and apply by brush orroller to the concrete surface. The concrete must be drybefore application.

Application Procedure for fischer Reinforcement System FRS

    fischer FRS-CS APPLICATION

Ensure that all surface repair materials and fischer ECPrimer is dry prior to application of FRS-CS carbon fibersheets.

Cut sheets according to desired sizes. Do not removebacking.

Mix appropriate batches of FRS-CB epoxy resin andhardener with ratio of 4:1 ( FRS-CBcomes in a 5 Kg set :4 kg resin and 1 kg hardener ). Coverage of mixed FRS CB is 1 kg for every 1 sqm of FRS-CS. Do not apply if

relative humidity is 85% or greater. Do not thin mixture.

Apply first coat of FRS-CBmixture by brush or roller( coverage at approximately 0.5mm thick ).

Prior to application of the FRS-CS carbon fiber sheets, ensure proper orientation of the fiber ( FRS-CS is uni-directional ). Apply the FRS-CSusing a rubber squeegeeor ribbed metal roller to impregnate fully the FRS-CSwiththe resin. Extrude all air or bubbles, as this will mean thatthe resin has fully impregnated the sheet. Apply a secondcoat of the resin by brush or roller ( coverage at

approximately 0.5mm thick ). Observe curing time.

    SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT LAYERS:

Should a second layer of FRS-CS is required, repeat thesequence above, ensuring that the thickness of the resinapplication is the same and the carbon fiber sheet is fullyimpregnated and that all air is extruded. Observe curingtime.

    FINISHING

Finishing or protection coating can be applied to thefischer Reinforcement System FRS after 24 hoursfollowing the sheet application. Should cement plaster beapplied, broadcast fine sand to the surface of the FRS-CSwhile the resin is still tacky. Allow 24 hours curing prior toapplication of cement plaster.
