Masthead- Has a specific trademark. For example the layout is always the same and is in the same font. It usually fits the width of the cover but can just fill a certain section.

Date Line- The date of publication is important as the reader will need to know what magazine that they are reading.

Issue Number- This is in case the reader thinks they have already bought this magazine and if they find anything wrong with it, they can tell the publisher the issue number and get the problem fixed quickly.

Main Image- the main image normally covers the whole of the page. Some magazine’s put the main image in front of the masthead and others put it behind.

Model Credit- The name of the model must go somewhere on the page so that they get credit for the image.

Price- This is usually near the barcode or, if the magazine is not very expensive, they will make it big and bold so that people are more likely to buy it as the price is so low.

Features- The features normally include page numbers and a bit of information as to what is inside the music magazine. This can be placed almost anywhere on the page.

Image- There is always at least one image on the contents page, usually placed on the left side.

Date- The date of publication is important as the reader will need to know what magazine that they are reading.

Issue Number- This is in case the reader thinks they have already bought this magazine and if they find anything wrong with it, they can tell the publisher the issue number and get the problem fixed quickly.

The Title- The title on a contents page is very important as they will need to know what the page contains. This is normally at the top of the page and in a medium sized font so that it does not overpower the rest of the magazine.

Contents Page

Main Body of Text- The text on a double page spread is usually sized at 11pt and some magazines make the font correspond with the article. Some magazine spreads start with a dropped cap to show the reader when the article begins. The text is set into columns, usually 2-4. This is so that the text on the page looks structured.

Headline- The headline on a double page spread is usually bold, short and easy to read making it grab the reader’s attention and forcing them to read on.

Stand First- A small introduction to what the article is about and the person that is included. If the person is not famous, people may not know a lot about them and therefore need them to be introduced.

Page numbers- Page numbers are normally put in the bottom corner of the page so that the reader knows how far they are into the magazine and it also makes it quicker for them to find the page from the contents.

Pull-Quotes- The pull quote can sometimes be used as the headline or can be used within the text to break it up. Some magazines also put the quote around the image to show that the person in the image has said it.

Photograph- The image usually takes up at least one page of the double page spread and is of the artist included in the article you have written. This catches the reader’s eye and entices them to read on.

By-line- Gives credit to the photographer and writer and is normally placed either under the image or in one of the corners of the page.

Colour Scheme- The double page spreads usually follow the same colour scheme that is ran throughout the magazine. These colours are normally quite simple and not too overpowering as the article is the main thing on the page.
