The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling

author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of

World War II and illuminates an intimate part of

history seldom seen: the women's war. The

Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by

years and experience, by ideals, passion and

circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous

path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-

occupied, war-torn France―a heartbreakingly beautiful

novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit

and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone,

a novel for a lifetime.

– GETTING TO KNOW YOU –

AUDREY BERGLUND

FINANCE COMMITTEE CHAIR

Since the Annual

Meeting in February,

Audrey is performing

co-Treasurer duties where she is in charge of

the “payables-side” of our bookkeeping. She

assumes this role appropriately because she is

a retired CPA. She was a partner of three in

her own firm auditing governments, such as

counties and cities. Audrey brings a wealth of

knowledge and wil l al low us to take full

advantage of the accounting software we are

running.

You may know Audrey as Audrey Swenson as

she joined Immanuel in 1958. She was

confirmed there and was a former Santa

Lucia. She was a lso involved in the Luther

League, a youth group that met and did a l l

kinds of fun things l ike sle igh rides and

horseback r iding. She remembers her parents

choosing the “Swedish” church over the

blocks away. She chuckles as she disc loses

that her Mom told her, “Just don’t tel l them

you are Norwegian.” Do you remember those

days?

In July 2018, she and Bil l were married at

United; the second-ever wedding ceremony

performed as United. Audrey has 3 children;

Bil l has two; al l adults . Together, they have

11 grandchildren as well as, two great -

grandchildren with a third on the way in July.

While many of their chi ldren and

grandchildren l ive in town, they have two

located in Grand Forks, one in Tennessee,

two in Chicago and several in Florida.

Audrey has

moved from

Proctor and

back again a

few times

throughout

the years but

most recently

came back

after

retirement in November of 2015 to be closer

to her parents and help them stay in their

home as long as possible which wo rked for a

couple years.

Besides her passion for reading act ion -

packed adventures, Audrey has another main

passion. She runs a picture framing shop. It

is ca l led Twin Oaks Picture Framing and is

currently on hiatus pending establishment of

a new shop locat ion. Keep watch for her

grand opening in the next year!

Audrey ends by sharing the bible passage that

is beloved by so many: 1 Corinthians 13, Love

is patient, love is kind.. . The part that so

moves her is the end:

And she quickly adds, “and my favorite hymn

is Just a c loser walk with thee.” Don’t we

know it! !

…and now these three remain: faith, hope

and love. But the greatest of these is love.
