Organized in 1894 by students of Troy music teacher Dr. J. Albert Jeffery’s, The Chromatic Club initially presented student recitals in private homes. The residence of David Cowee, Jr., on Troy’s Washington Park, was a principal venue and the birthplace of The Chromatic Club. It was David Cowee, Jr. who founded the concert series as we know it today and its first concert featured an artist of world renown, Edward A. MacDowell, in February of 1895. It was an enormous success and inspired the continuing commitment to present the finest artists of their time. This collection pictures a selection from the scores of outstanding artists who have appeared with Troy Chromatic Concerts at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
