From the Youth Pastor’s Desk “ W H O C A N I T A L K T O ? ”

Youth today are consumed by their technology! As one article I recently

read put it, “Cell phones are our youth’s new drug.” They are addicted to

Snapchat, Instagram, text messaging, and any other social media app they

can get. Yet, one harmful byproduct of this is, when they need to talk to

someone, they often feel very isolated.

“Every youth needs a Godly APP in their life.” This phrase is foundational to

what we believe and teach at Ignite. Every youth needs a Godly (A)dult,

(P)arent, and (P)astor to pour into them. When youth wonder ,“Who can I

talk to?” we want them to know they have at least 3 places that they can

go!

The most important person that they have is YOU, their parent! Let your

youth know that you are always there for them if they need you! Next,

they have an adult, a small group leader, who is invested in them. Every Sunday night this small group leader has the

opportunity to listen to your youth and then speak into their lives.

As their youth pastor, I am there for them. If they are ever in need of someone to talk to, please encourage them to

reach out to me. In over a decade of leading and serving youth, I have found there is often a stigma around speaking

to the pastor. But, I am always there for them and would love to help walk with them through anything they are

going through or just be a listening ear for them.

There is actually a fourth place that we have in place that your youth can go, and that is to the other youth in their

small groups. We have intentionally placed them in a group of peers so that they can have other friends to walk

with through life.

If your youth ever wonders, “Who can I talk to?” please encourage them to go to their godly APP! It is always avail-

able for them!

Monthly In/Out Events

Ozaukee Skateland - Jan 22nd, 1:00-3:30pm

Ignite will meet at Grace at 12:30pm and carpool to Ozaukee Skateland for fun and

fellowship. $5 cash admission required. Parent drivers are needed for this event! Con-

tact Pastor Howard by January 18th to RSVP or to

ask any questions.

Riverview Village - Feb 4th, 2:00-3:30pm

We will meet at Riverview Village to participate in

activities and play games and hang out with the

residents. The time you spend with the residents

means a whole lot to them and has a positive im-

pact on their life! You will be able to receive YDM (confirmation) service

hours for your participation in this OUT service event. Contact Pastor

Howard for more information.

Donate Food & Drinks

We are always in need of food and soda on Sunday nights. We love having multiple options for our youth from fruit & veg-

gies to cookies and chips and frozen pizzas. For drinks, we like to provide bottled water, soda (2 liters work best), and juice.

Powdered drinks that we can mix in the youth room are extremely helpful. To donate, please send with your youth on Sun-

day nights or you can drop off with Pastor Howard.

Youth Room Supervisors

We have limited signups for 2017 and we cannot have the youth room open without supervisors! This is a little over a two

hour commitment on Sunday nights (5:30 - 7:30 with some clean up at the end). If you are able to do this, please sign up

on our sign up genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d49a4ae29a3fb6-sunday

Youth Ministry Needs

Crisis Management (H.S.)

Over the next few months, we will talk about God’s will for our lives in the 10 commandments.

We will use the phrase that these commandments are what God wants “FOR our life not FROM

our life.” We have gone through the first 3 commandments in dealing with our relationship with

God, and now will focus on the last 7 that focus on our earthly relationships. We will be covering some difficult topics that your youth will

certainly face at some point in their lives: bullying, sex, respecting authority, how we speak about others, and more.

See page three for a list of weekends we will talk about each topic so that you can talk to your youth.

In this series, we will talk about how we handle adversity in life. We will look at depression,

sadness, frustration, dishonesty, disappointment, and failure and ask the questions “Where is

God in the midst of this?” and “How does God help me through this?” The topic of adversity

is a very important topic as many of our youth do not know how to handle adversity because

it is far easier to avoid it or ignore it. I look forward to our discussions as we take an honest

look at how God is working in our lives through adversity.
