Stephen White's Gallery of Photography is offering an attrac tive photograph catalog for a recent show, The Fashionable World. Featuring original photographs used to illustrate Vogue and Vanity Fair, the catalog contains photos by nine photogra phers, including Edward Steichen, Charles Sheeler, Cecil Bea ton, and Hoyningen-Huene. A brief introduction serves as an

historical perspective for the works, but the stars of the cata

log are the photos themselves. Not only illustrating fashion of the 1920s and 1930s, the catalog includes dramatic portraits of famous entertainers. The book is thus successful on several levels: fashion illustration, advertising styles, photos by notable photographers, and portraiture, all in an appealing format. The slick catalog contains more than 100 photos and is avail able for $6.00 from: Stephen White's Gallery, 835 N. La Ci?n aga Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90069.

The Craft and Folk Art Museum has published Weaving Tra ditions of Highland Bolivia, an exhibition catalog which includes reproductions of various cloths, photos of the cloths as worn

in their native surroundings, and descriptions of their geo

graphic origins. Not strictly an "art" catalog, this work is

also a cultural experience. The catalog is written by guest curators Laurie Adelson and Bruce Takarni and is available for $7.00 from: Craft and Folk Art Museum Shop, 5814 Wil shire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036.

A little-noted source for exhibition catalogs is the Los An geles Municipal Art Gallery in Barnsdale, home of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House. The gallery produces frequent catalogs for its changing programs, which feature local ar

tists. Generally priced under $10.00, the catalogs are well

illustrated, and they are excellent source material for contem

porary West Coast artists. The monthly exhibitions are coor

dinated by gallery director Josine Ianco-Starrels, who exam

ines portfolios of artists in the area. Although Proposition 13 has made the production of catalogs more difficult, inquiries can be made concerning any show. To be placed on the mailing list, write: Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Associates, 4804 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90027.
