JULY / AUGUST 2018

From the Vicar : Dear Parishioners: I hope you are having a wonderful summer and will have a glorious Fourth of July Celebration giv-ing thanks to God for our freedom, and, especially, our freedom to worship in the manner we feel God calls us to embrace. We know that our country seems to be divided but one thing certainly unites: our love of this country and our love of freedom. So, as we celebrate and enjoy the summer months, I share with you a poem that this quite frivolous but meaningful. Happy Fourth--David

The 4th of July

Tt’s time for the “Barbecue” And the “Fireworks” galore!

And the “Beer” and the “Friends” And the Burgers for sure!

But most important

And I really must say Is that “America” got

Its “Independence” today!

Yes in “1776” The famous politician

Senator “John Hancock” Had signed the petition

That stated that our country Was “free” from all others!

And that we would “only be governed” By our “American Brothers”!

So while we are celebrating

This “great day of fun” Let us always remember

What our forefathers had done!

This summer, those who wish to be confirmed in September and those who wish to explore the his-tory and theology of the Episcopal Church, are invited to join the confirmation group. They will be reading, Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs and Practices. We will begin meeting the week following the July 4th—the day and times will be determined by the participants’ schedules. Food Bank Ministry Thank you for continuing to support the food bank outreach min-istry! In April we collected $375 and May $234 in the collection plate. The collection plate donations are sent to the food banks quarterly to purchase food to distribute to their participants. We have continued distributing food (for both humans & pets) to Johnston, Saluda and Ridge Spring food banks. Bring your food donations (non perishable items, no glass please) to church each Sunday! The food banks can also distribute items such as toilet-ries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, bar soap, etc.) and don't forget spices! We also make a point of including pet food (dog & cat) to help people keep their pet animals, often their only source of companionship. If you would like to participate in this excit-ing outreach ministry but are unable to attend church, you may make a donation and mail to our church office ad-dress! bank' in the subject line) Mary Lou Seymour

Volunteering at LOCAL FESTIVALS

As part of our community outreach, we have decided to participate in three local festivals this year; the Peach Blossom Festival in Johnston, the Ridge Peach Festival in Trenton and the Harvest Festival in Ridge Spring. In our tent, at the Johnston Peach Blossom Festival, we sold bottled water and Watsonia peach ice cream raising $451. At the Trenton Peach Festival we sold bottled water raising $225. Proceeds from the Peach Blossom Festival went to the Johnston Food Bank and the proceeds from the Peach Festival went to the Edgefield Meals on Wheels. We look forward to continuing to grow our presence in the community!

CELEBRATING BIRTHS

JULIUS MARSHALL VANN RAINSFORD AND

JOHN CHARLES PHINIZY RAINSFORD

BORN ON MAY 16, 2018 MALISSA AND BETTIS RAINSFORD

Daughters of the King The Daughters of the King sponsored a Ladies' Night Out at Trinity in June. We had a great turnout and fun was had by all. We continue to address the prayer needs of our con-gregation both for our members and their friends and relatives. We see prayer working everyday in those needs. Remember if you have a prayer re-quest fill out a card found in each pew, hand it to an usher in the plate or give it to a Daughter, You can always tell us in person of your prayer request. These are held in confidence. We hope to start new classes for potential daughters in early fall. Speak to a Daughter if you are inter-ested in this prayer and service ministry. We pray you continue to count your blessings by placing money in your blessings boxes each day this summer. It will soon be time for us to write a large check to Mt. Calvary for our part in the backpack ministry. Every coin counts. We are grateful for your love and support for DOK. Blessings to each of you, Daughters of The King
