• “Remind people that property lines do not necessarily go to the stream, and inmany cases, homeowners own property across the stream and it should berespected as private property.” The homeowner’s suggestion is to make sureyou validate your property lines and consequently respect your neighbor’sprivate property. Everyone is quick to offer advice to the new graduate. And everyone has a personal definition of success. Thetruth is there are no specific steps that assure success in life. There is hard work, perseverance, stayingfocused and looking for opportunities. But there will be no knock on the door to let you know an opportunity

awaits. Amid the joy of graduation and the strain of deciding what to do next, here are a few words of advice for you from

people who have been there.

Some Advice

for

High SchoolGRADUATES!

“Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but never gets you anywhere.” ~ Erma Bombeck

"Just remember, you can't climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets." ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger

"You will never have more energy, enthusiasm, hair, or brain cells than you have today." ~ Tom and Ray Magliozzi

"Minds are like parachutes. They only function when they're open." ~ Thomas Dewar

"God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas, but for scars." ~ Elbert Hubbard

“If you're picking your best friend based on what kind of clothes she wears or how popular she is, chances are youaren't going to stay in touch after graduation." ~ Renee Olstead

" So long as your desire to explore is greater than your desire to not screw up, you're on the right track." ~ Ed Helms

"Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there." ~ Will Rogers

the happy gardenerbountiful herb gardens

Fresh herbs are the perfectcomplement to yourhomegrown vegetables.

Even in the smallest yard, youshould be able to find room togrow a few useful and flavorful

herbs. It can be as simple as a fewplants on your windowsill, using herbs

as accents (such as using thyme as anedging), or an entire garden dedicated

to these fragrant and beautiful plants. These are some ofour favorite herbs, both basic and specialty, know for theirculinary and ornamental usefulness.

ParsleyAlthough parsley is technically a biennial, we treat parsleyas an annual. Curly parsley is a beautiful plant that can beused as an edging. Flat Leaf-Italian parsley has the mostflavor. Laura Parsley has a mild parsley flavor with a hintof citrus. All types of parsley are host plants for the BlackSwallowtail Butterfly Caterpillar.

SageThere are hundreds of varieties of Sage plants, bothculinary and ornamental. A prized culinary herb today, sage was mainly cultivated in the past as a medicinal herb.Sage (Salvia Officinalis) can be grown in any ordinarygarden soil as long as it is sunny and well-drained. It is bestknow for flavoring stuffing, soups and casseroles and haswarm, strong flavor. Its flower are flavored by bees andbutterflies. • Berggarten Sage can be used as a culinary sage, but isextremely useful as a boarder plant. It forms a robustmound of silvery green foliage. • Golden, Pineapple, Purple and Tri-color Sages have awonderful foliage color in addition to their fabulous flavor. They are useful as a colorful addition to the flower gardenas well as in containers.

RosemaryIn our area, Rosemary is treated as an annual. It has adistinctive flavor and aroma similar to pine. Even its leaveslook like little pine needles. • In addition to the classic Rosemary, we carry BarbequeRosemary, which produces extra long, straight stems thatcan be used as skewers for grilling shish kebobs. • Creeping Rosemary is useful for spilling over the edge of

a container or window box. It is the easiest to grow indoorsfor use in the winter. • Madeline Hill Rosemary is said to have improved coldhardiness and is covered with blue flowers in the spring.

ThymeMost Thyme have a distinctive, slightly tangy aroma andflavor that is useful for flavoring meats, soups and stews.• English & French Thymes are the most popular varietiesused in cooking. They are the tallest growing up to 12”,making them the easiest to harvest and to use in herbalbouquets. They also have the strongest flavor.• Lemon and Lime Thymes (as their names suggest) have amarvelous hint of lemon and line flavor in their leaves.• Besides being used in cooking, there are other thymesthat are useful in the garden as a ground cover, an edgingor between stepping stones, where their wonderfulfragrance is released when walked upon.

BasilThis tender annual is best planted outside after May 15 inour area. The common basil that is referred to in mostrecipes is the Sweet Green Basil. • Aristotle, Boxwood, Greek Columnar, Medinette, MagicalMichael, Napoletano and Spicy Globe Basil all have thearoma and flavor of Sweet Basil, but with different looksand growth habits. • Lime, Mrs. Burns Lemon & Lesbos all have citrus scentsperfect for salads and seafood dishes.• Purple Ruffles, Red Rubin, Siam Queen and Thai Basilshave attractive dark foliage that look fabulous in thegarden border or in a container. They have a strongerspicier flavor than the Sweet Basil. • Holy Red & Green Basil has a mild clove scented foliagethat is useful for making tea. It is grown in houses, gardennear temples all over India.• African Blue Basil has a strong flavor with a hint ofcamphor. Always in bloom, it’s perfect plant for attractingbutterflies, hummingbirds & beneficial pollinators.Surely, there is at least one basil to suite your culinary andornamental needs!

If you plant your herbs out in May, you will be able tostart harvesting them by mid to late June. July and Augustare the peak months to harvest herbs in our area. By thenthe plants should be nice and bushy with plenty of newgrowth. You can find over 100 varieties of non-GMO herbsgrown using organic products at The Growing Place!

Pet TalesBy the Naperville Area Humane Society

Angus | 11Y 1M | Cairn Terrier | MaleAre you the type of person that enjoys spending time outside? Taking slow walks around the neighborhood, stopping to smell the flowers? If so, we would be the perfect match! As you can probably guess, I'm not asuper active guy, I'd much rather sit on the patio and soak up the sun than run around. Don't get me wrong,I still enjoy playing with toys, especially ones that squeak. I get along with most other dogs and might beokay living with a cat as well. Children should be at least 8 years old since I am a little older and don't likebeing startled. If you're looking for a companion to enjoy the nice weather with, I'm your guy!

Waldo | 7Y 9M | Domestic Shorthair | MaleWhere's Waldo? I'm here… the orange tabby wearing the brown collar. I don't have to worry about blendingin with the crowd, because in my opinion, I'm one in a million. I'm a pretty gentle guy, and my idea of a greatday would be bird watching (from inside the house), sleeping in the sun, having a bite to eat, nudging you forsome pets, and repeating. I am FIV positive, but that doesn't mean I can't live a normal life. My stress levelshould be kept as low as possible, and I should definitely have yearly vet visits. If you're lucky enough towelcome me into your family, please don't dress me in a red and white striped shirt. LOL! *My adoption feeis covered through the Paw It Forward Program

He knows the local market very well and Icould not imagine a more responsive agent. Healmost always answers calls, and in the very rareinstances when he can't, he returns the call withinthe hour. Sometimes, I wonder if the man eversleeps. He truly does work HARD to get your homesold at a good price. There were several times whenmy wife and I wanted to reduce our asking price, but amazingly, Jeff convinced us not to, forsakingan easier selling opportunity. He does what is bestfor his clients, not himself. Believe it or not, I'veactually told him that he is working too hard for hisclients. Along with being a great and veryprofessional real-estate agent, he is just a nicehuman being. He instantly becomes a part of thefamily. As happy as we are to have sold our home,we are going to miss working with Jeff. You will notever regret choosing Jeff to represent you.Bala and Alamu R., Naperville

I don't think I've met a person who has workedharder than Jeff did on helping us buying our familyhome. We were referred to Jeff by a friend and afterplacing our first phone call to him, he was over atour townhouse within 24 hours for our initialmeeting. Jeff treated us like old friends though wehad not met him and we knew right away we werein good hands. Jeff worked around the clock for usand always responded to any phone call, email ortext we had within an hour. Most often he wasreaching out to us first so we were never behind inwhat was going on. Our purchase was not an easyone (issues not relating to realtor), but Jeff handledthem with flying colors. He wouldn't take no for ananswer if we came across a roadblock and did notgive up until we got what we wanted. There is noquestion in my mind that we would not have gottenthe house we did if it were not for Jeff. I cannot sayenough good things about him. My spouse and I areso pleased and grateful for Jeff! His work ethic isincomparable.Jim and Katie C., Naperville

River Run Club...

“A private, social, recreational and fitness club.”

From the GM’s Desk

The Bistro Café is open…. the outdoor pool isfilled…. the outdoor furniture is cleaned…. andwe are ready for the summer season!

Our first event of the 2016 season was the River RunGolf Invitational which was held on Friday, May 20th atTamarack Golf Course and was followed by a cook-out atthe Clubhouse for the 19th hole. Lots of fun was had byall who attended and prizes were handed out for longestdrive and putt as well as closest to the pin.

Since scoring was kept on an individual basis, there istalk of an audit and a rematch later this summer. I willkeep you posted on the day and date.

The Raptor’s swim and water polo teams have manyhome events this month starting with their “pep rally”which took place on June 3rd. What a great way to spendan afternoon or evening cheering on our home team, soplease check the Clubhouse Event Sheet for dates andtimes for these upcoming events.

The first of three, Dive–In Movie Night’s will be onWednesday, June 15th from 8 to 10 p.m. at our outdoorpool. Plan on bringing your favorite “floatie” to sit in theoutdoor pool while watching a favorite movie on the bigscreen. We will have pizza, cheesy bread, juice boxes andice cream treats for all guests. There will be a $5 perperson fee to attend this event. Space is limited andjudging by last year’s event, space will fill up fast. We areasking you to call the Clubhouse as reservations arerequired for this event.

If any member would like to have an outdoor eventfor that special occasion, please contact Chris Burg ormyself so that we can coordinate one of our outdoorlocations for your gathering. The Knoll for 80 people, theCanopy for 40 people or our Cabana for 20 people are thebest poolside locations for your event. Be it a graduationor birthday celebration as well as a get together of familyand friends, our staff will be available to assist in set up,servicing and clean up so all you have to do is bring the

guests and have some fun!!If you have not already noticed, we have a few

improvements that you need to be aware of. The parkinglot received a new sealcoating and striping. We alsoreplaced our parking lot lights with new, brighter LEDbulbs for your safety. The entrance has a new look withsome added floral décor as well as our hanging basketson display throughout the clubhouse.

As always, I will be grillin’ on Friday, Saturday andSunday with special items each week. I will also besending emails out every Tuesday and Thursdaymornings to keep every household in River Run updatedon menus, events and happenings.

We have lots of newfaces this year that havejoined our lifeguard andBistro staff as well as manyreturning associates. I am extremely proud of all of ourassociates as they seem to have that “special something”that it takes to be a part of the River Run team.

Please be sure to provide me with any feedback orguidance as to improvements that can be made to theClub.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you this summerso that we can make “your” Clubhouse the destination ofchoice for you and your family.

Let’s get this party started! Best Regards, Mark
