effort and dedication to Donvale PS over their term on Council. The school is noted for its community
feel and the work by this group of people has ensured that this reputation continues. We are extremely
grateful to them.
If you are interested in becoming a School Councillor and proactively and positively contributing to our
wonderful school, I strongly encourage you to nominate.
Maintenance work and upgrades around the school: There is much happening at Donvale
with respect to maintenance work and upgrades. With around $100,000 to spend – PA fundraising money
and Education Department Maintenance funding – I am currently working hard to receive quotes and get
things happening.
A list of some of the work we are aiming to complete is as follows…
Phase 2 upgrade of junior playground. (PA fundraising money)
Repair pot hole at drive in entrance to school pick up / drop off zone
Create a vehicle asphalt access from visitor car park gates to junior basketball court
Create an asphalt path leading from Elata St gate access point (on junior playground) to junior
basketball court.
Asphalt the gravel walk path adjacent to the Senior building leading to the car park
Flood lighting installed to light junior and senior sides of the school
Erect a fence and gate along the eastern end boundary of the school adjacent to the oval and old
kinder
Upgrade breezeway troughs and drinking taps
Our upcoming Working Bees will further enhance the school with car park fence being painted and front
entrance garden being ‘tidied’. I’ll be sure to keep our community in the loop with all these very exciting
and much needed upgrades to our school.
Working Bee: DPS’s very first Working Bee for the year is being held on Sunday 26th
March from 9.00am onwards. So, get your shovels, gardening gloves, hedge trimmers, blowers, mowers
and the like ready and lock this date in. We have many jobs to do around the school including adding new
softfall to the junior playground, cleaning up the garden bed area, cleaning out some storage rooms,
weeding, trimming….. the list goes on. The PA is again organising a delicious BBQ for all our hard
workers. This is always a good time to gather, relax, have a chat and get to know each other a little more.
It’s always a good time to also meet some new friends. The children all have a great time helping out and
playing with their friends. If you are able to attend, it would be appreciated if you could please return the
notice sent home this week indicating your intentions in coming along and how many of you will be
joining us. We would love to see as many of our families attending and helping us out. I look forward to
seeing lots of families and friends there.
Lighthouse Church Community Service: The Lighthouse Church has offered to come to our
school to do some maintenance work as part of their community service program. This support has been
made possible because of our schools Chaplaincy program. Chaplaincy is not only about supporting our
students’ and families social and emotional needs but it is very much about building community.
On Saturday 25th March, the Lighthouse Church will be at the school painting the car park fence and
tidying up the school’s front garden bed – a much needed upgrade. If the day of our Working Bee
(Sunday 26th March) does not suit you and you are keen to lend a helping hand in some way, then
perhaps this particular Saturday would be more suitable to you. If so, you would be most welcome to
come along and join in with the Lighthouse Church. I know that several School Councillors have offered
to come to the school on the Saturday as it was more suitable to them. A light lunch will also be
provided to all helpers. There is always much work to do so the more helping hands we can have; the
more wonderful things we can do with our school ensuring a fabulous learning environment for our
students.
School Swimming Caps: A very big thank you to the Younger family for generously donating to the
school the cost of our new Donvale PS swim caps. These caps are in our school colours and have our
school logo printed on them. They are proudly worn by our school swimmers when competing in school
swimming competitions. Thank you, Marina for your efforts also in organizing these for our school. They
are a great addition to our uniform and ensure that the students continue to represent our school with
pride.
Hope you’re having a wonderful week.

SICK BAY
Students who fall ill at school are sent to the office and then to sick bay. When a
student presents themselves at sick bay feeling unwell, we do our best to assess the
student by asking them about their symptoms and by observation. If necessary a parent
is contacted and arrangements are made for the child to go home. If your child is feeling ill, please keep
them at home. The school is not equipped to look after students who are sent to school already unwell
or re-dress old wounds. Sick bay is simply there to deal with children who fall ill or are injured during the
course of the day.
Thank you for your cooperation in regards to this matter.

Introducing Our SRC Students ...
It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with the Student Representative Council (SRC) for 2017.
Each year the students bring new ideas and a renewed enthusiasm to make positive changes in our school.
The council is made up of our four Grade 6 School Captains, an SRC Representative from each of the
Senior School classes (grade’s 3-6), as well as Vice SRC Representatives from each class. These students
are chosen by their peers, to represent students’ interests across the school. They work hard to let the
‘voice of the students’ be heard.
Our 2017 SRC members have written a small introduction below, which I invite you all to read. It’s going
to be another great year at Donvale Primary School.

Program Update
Dear families,
This week our goal was to celebrate autumn through some autumn activities. Children made a fantastic effort and everyone enjoyed the
teamwork. Some other highlights for this week were a cooking activity, Autumn tree craft, talent show, and preparing breakfast. Many of
these activities were suggested by children. This made us happy to see them getting involved and demonstrating leadership skills.
Children also are very excited about the new stuff such as our tent and some new toys that has been planned to come to our room very
soon.
Next week we will focus on St Patrick's day activities at OSHClub. We are looking forward to a great week, with interesting activities.

DONVALE BASKETBALL CLUB – News & Views!
Great game played by Destroyers. They worked hard as a team to get the win. Thanks to John for
stepping in as coach and guiding the boys through an effortless game for the boys.
U9 Dragons had another big win 26 to 0.
U11 Girls – Daisies – The girls bounced back on the winners list with a really strong 30-0 win over
Milgate. It was a great team performance with some excellent passing, much better shooting and
fantastic defence (with not one single foul). Amelia S shot 14 points, Ashleigh F had 10, Jamie E filled in
and shot 4 points and Indi M scored 1 goal. For her great passing, defence and team work Allie E was
the Daisy of the week.
Diamonds played a great team game and showed so much improvement after 4 weeks. We went down
16-27 against the OLOP Pearls but it was a terrific effort.
U9 Boys Dinosaurs – The fantastic start to the season continues! With only 5 players this week the
boys played another game of great team basketball and came away strong winners. Keep up the hard
work boys.
U11 Boys – Dingoes vs Devils – The boys played each other for the first time this year with the Devils
getting away to an early lead. The Dingoes fought hard in what was a very competitive second half leav-
ing both teams looking forward to the next encounter!
