Saturday the sounds of chainsaws, lawn mowers, and weed eaters could be heard throughout Oakwood. It won’t be long and the splashing of water and laughter will echo through the grounds. Still other members were scrubbing and shining the club house. The word of the weekend was Co-op-eration It is just amazing what can happen with a co-op club when everyone chips in to get the job done Saturday the sounds of chainsaws lawn mowers and weed eaters could be heard throughout Oakwood Pickups and golf carts with trailers full of leaves and branches made multiple trips to the burn or compost pile

In other parts of the club members were busy getting the pool ready for filling patching and chipping off loose paint Joints were prepared for caulking It wonrsquot be long and the splashing of water and laughter will echo through the grounds

Still other members were scrubbing and shining the club house The last of the winter dust and bugs were swept from the porch screens The grass under the trees by the Commons have been mowed

The volleyball courts were readied for the season and the nets were raised The Pentanque courts have been raked and weeded And of course a game or two of horse shoes had to be played

A lunch was served to all the workers

I was going to start thanking individual members but I know Irsquod miss someone So thank you everyone I believe every member at the club on Saturday was involved in some way getting the place spruced up and the last evidence of winter removed As you look around the club it looks like a park All of you can be very proud of yourselves and our village in the woods Pool News

Everything is on track for the pool to be up and running by Memorial Day weekend Cass is our Certified Pool Official (CPO) He and his team were working in the sweltering heat of the deep-end sump on Saturday On one of the occasions that I stopped by the pool Bob (Sheila) Gene (Becky) Mike (Barb) and Jerry (Diane) were scrubbing cleaning and sweating in the pool I know others were helping too but I saw this group

Depending on the weather the pool will be filled and heat up for the season It takes almost an entire tank of propane to heat the pool at the beginning of the season Thatrsquos about 500 gallons of propane burned up in just a couple of days

Sticks and Leaves

Just a reminder that when yoursquore cleaning up your lot please make sure only leaves and grass go into the compost pile near the club entrance Branches sticks and logs should go to the burn pile in the Commons The sticks and branches take to long to break down

Camper Tabs

Take a look at your camper and ensure that your tabs are current We never know when the state inspector will show up and check that they are current They also check that back-flow valves are installed on water hoses

Is Your Golf Cart Insured

Do you have insurance on your golf cart I took an informal survey and more than half donrsquot have insurance It might be smart to think about it if you donrsquot have any As I understand the ldquorulesrdquo if you hit or hurt someone with your golf cart and donrsquot have insurance you can be liable for injuries medical bills etc Oakwood does not have any rules requiring insurance but I understand itrsquos very inexpensive and can be part of your home ownerrsquos policy Irsquod hate to see anyone get hurt in an accident or entangled in a lawsuit

Mosquitos and Ticks

When I arrived at the club Friday afternoon there were NO mosquitos By Saturday morning it was like a fleet of B-52 bombers had shown up and they were out for blood They sure are huge right now Donrsquot worry the bug spraying will begin soon We donrsquot want to spray if itrsquos raining or going to rain We are using the same gal that sprayed at the end of the season last year We will do our best to keep the pests under control

I also found a couple of wood ticks on myself Sunday morning Keep a close eye on yourself for them The deer ticks are very small about the size of the head of a pin They can carry Lyme disease Spray can help but close checking in areas with folds in the skin armpits etc is where to check for them As I understand it if you find a deer tick and remove it you wonrsquot get Lyme Itrsquos when they have the blood they need and drop off of you on their own that you are susceptible to Lyme disease but even then the chances of getting it are fairly low

We have a fund raiser for the new pool which begins after the meeting I will announce all the details of this fund raiser at the meeting but bring your wallet to be the first ones in on this summer long project to help fund the replacement of the swimming pool

The Wine and Cheese party hosted by Dan and Barb begins at 600 pm in the club house This annual event is a great time to get together and sample some wines meet new members and reconnect with old friends Please bring a dish to pass

Distressing News

It is Sunday evening as I write this newsletter I have been informed that we have members that are missing some food (Omaha Steaks) from the club house freezer There is nothing more disturbing than thinking there is a thief among us I am a person who believes in helping those in need however taking something that is not yours is stealing Some members donrsquot have room in their camper fridge for all of their food and they use the club freezer If it is not yours then leave it alone Stealing is grounds for expulsion from our club

Finally

The weather forecast isnrsquot good for next weekend but Irsquove noticed that sometimes the weather folks are wrong (go figure) What do they say in Minnesota if you donrsquot like the weather wait five minutes Herersquos hoping for better weather than what is predicted I hope everyone has a good week
