From the Pastor’s Desk November 11, 2018 Over the next several months there will be some exci�ng maintenance projects and improvements taking place at Ss. Mary & Mathias. Here is a summary of the work that is being done.
Installa�on of the Boiler from St. Mary’s Church
The old boiler from St. Mary’s Church is in the process of being installed and will soon serve as the primary boiler for St. Mathias Church. Since this boiler is newer than the one previously used as the primary heat source at St. Mathias, it will improve efficiency and lower our hea�ng bills.
Audio/Visual Improvements in Gannon Hall/Livestreaming
of the Mass
Due to a generous dona�on from two parishioners ($10,000 each), an enhanced audio and visual system will be installed in Gannon Hall the week of Nov. 11th. The system will include the following: new sound board, new in-ceiling speakers, wireless handheld microphone, in ceiling HD Projector, 2 HD Video Cameras for use in the church). If all goes well the system can be used for Thanksgiving weekend masses. The new system will allow the Mass and other Liturgies to be viewed in Gannon Hall. This will enable parishioners who have issues with mobility to have closer access to the restrooms. This will also give a space for parents of young children to take their li5le ones to when need be for a few moments and s�ll stay connected to the Mass. Eucharis�c ministers will bring communion to the hall. In addi�on, this new technology will soon allow us to broadcast a live-steam of the Mass onto our parish’s webpage for viewing by our homebound and parishioners in nursing home/care facili�es.
Improvements to the Sound System in Church
In conjunc�on with the AV improvements in Gannon Hall, our sound system in church will be reconfigured for improved hearing and greater clarity of the spoken and sung word.
Electrical Upgrade Project
Beginning in January, St Mathias Church will receive a complete electrical and ligh�ng overhaul. This project is the recommenda�on of the diocese insurance company to minimize the poten�al for a fire in the church due to electrical component failure. The scope of the project was

cont’d. from cover developed by the Architects BHMM. The overall project has been in development and budgeted over the past three years.
Art-O-Lite out of Moline has been awarded the construc�on contract for the project by the Parish Buildings and Grounds Commi5ee, approved by the Parish Finance Council and the Diocese.
The following are the main scope items included in the project:
• All exis�ng electrical components including wiring, knob/ tube, light components and controls for the church will be removed and
updated with new components to meet code and accommodate the use of LED ligh�ng. • All the overhead ligh�ng in the nave will be rebuilt to accommodate
custom LED lights. • Addi�onal overhead ligh�ng will be added in the front por�on of
the nave.
This upgrade will take up to 8 weeks star�ng January 7th, so the church will be closed during this �me frame.
The following changes in loca�ons are to accommodate parish ac�vi�es during the closure:
• The Blessed Sacrament will be reserved in the Mazzuchelli Room in Gannon Hall.
• Weekend Masses will be held Ss. Mary & Mathias school gym. • Saturday Confessions will be held (TBD). • Daily Masses and First Saturday Masses will be held in Gannon Hall,
side rooms will be used for confessions. • Adora�on will be held in Gannon Hall.
Access to the church during the closure will be limited to maintenance people, Buildings and Grounds Commi5ee members, and the Priests. Access to any other parish member aKer January 7th and un�l project comple�on will need to be approved by Art-O-Lite through Buildings and Grounds Commi5ee.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this project. The result will be an updated and reliable electrical system and ligh�ng in the church that will complement the architecture and provide adequate coverage to the en�re congrega�on.

LA SANTA MISA DE HOY ES EN MEMORIA DE TO-DOS LOS SANTOS DIFUNTOS

Durante los próximos meses habrá algunos proyectos de mantenimiento emocionantes y mejoras que tienen lugar en los Santos María y Mathias. Aquí está un resumen de la labor que se está realizando.
Instalación de la caldera de Santos Mary's Church
La vieja caldera de la iglesia de Santa Maria está en proceso de ser instalada y pronto servirá como la caldera principal para la Iglesia de San Matias. Dado que esta caldera es más nueva que la utilizada anteriormente como fuente de calor principal en St. Mathias, mejorará la eficiencia y reducirá nuestras facturas de calefacción.
Mejoras de Audio/Visuales de Gannon Hall/Livestreaming de la Misa
Debido a una generosa donación de dos feligreses ($10,000 cada uno), un sistema de audio y visual será instala-do en Gannon Hall la semana del 11 de noviembre. El sistema incluirá lo siguiente: nueva placa de sonido, nuevos altavoces en el techo, micrófono inalámbrico de mano, en el techo de HD proyector, 2 cámaras de vídeo HD para su uso en la iglesia). Si todo va bien el sistema puede ser usado para las Misas el fin de semana de Acción de Gracias. El nuevo sistema permitirá ver la Misa y otras liturgias en Gannon Hall. Esto permitirá a los feligreses de que tienen problemas de movilidad tener un acceso más cercano a los baños. Esto también dará un espacio para que padres de niños pequeños tomen sus pequeños a cuando sea necesario por unos momentos y aún permanezcan conectados a la Misa. Los ministros de Eucaristía llevarán la comunión al salon. Además, esta nueva tecnología pronto nos permitirá que nosotros transmitamos en vivo la misa en la página Web para ver nuestra casa y feligreses en hogares de ancianos y hospitales.
