Hello church family! If you have been to church recently, then you have heard me talking a lot about prayer. The reason for this is because the Scriptures teach us that prayer is vitally important to our lives as Christians. In order to have any kind of relationship with someone, there must be some kind of communication. Prayer is the means by which God has wired the universe for us to commune with Him. So, we must be a church of prayer! Jesus called us to this very task. He turned over tables and whipped the money changers in the temple telling them that the temple was to be a “house of prayer.” Should we as the church be any less? If the physical building of the temple was to be a place of prayer, then surely those of us who are the church should be a house of prayer as well. We must make the task of prayer foundational to all we do as a church. Broad Street needs devoted individuals who pray, small groups of fellow members to pray together, and for us to spend time togeth- er as the local fellowship in prayer. What can we expect to happen when we pray? First, I think we can expect to see God change us. People misunderstand when they think prayer changes God. There are certainly times where God waits for His people to pray and ask for something and then He provides. More than anything, though, the people who pray are the ones who are changed. Our will is bent to God’s will and our desires are bent to God’s desires. Second, I think we will see a change in Satan. R.A. Torrey, was a pastor, evangelist, educa- tor, and writer in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. He wrote, “When the devil sees a man or woman who really believes in prayer, who knows how to pray, and who really does pray, and, above all, when he sees a whole church on its face before God in prayer, he trembles as much as he ever did, for he knows that his day in that church or community is at an end.” Would you not like to see Satan’s work in Haw- kinsville and Pulaski County end? I would. Finally, I think we can expect God to answer our prayers. When our will is conformed to God’s will, then He begins to answer our prayers. So, let’s pray for the lost to be saved. God delights in answer- ing that prayer. Let’s pray for the church to be healthy and grow. God delights in answering that prayer as well. Let’s pray that God’s glory is seen in this community like never before. God will answer that prayer, too! So, let’s be like the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8. Let’s keep seeking God, pouring out our hearts to Him, until He answers our prayers or changes our prayers. When we have that commitment and faith in Christ our Savior, then we will see God work. Let’s pray! Pastor Jeff Waters Pastor Rev. Jeff Waters From the Pastor September 2016 The Messenger

Broad Street needs devoted individuals who pray, small groups of fellow members to pray together, and for us to spend time togeth-er as the local fellowship in prayer.

R.A. Torrey, was a pastor, evangelist, educa-tor, and writer in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. He wrote, “When the devil sees a man or woman who really believes in prayer, who knows how to pray, and who really does pray, and, above all, when he sees a whole church on its face before God in prayer, he trembles as much as he ever did, for he knows that his day in that church or community is at an end.” Would you not like to see Satan’s work in Haw-kinsville and Pulaski County end? I would.

Finally, I think we can expect God to answer our prayers. When our will is conformed to God’s will, then He begins to answer our prayers. So, let’s pray for the lost to be saved. God delights in answer-ing that prayer. The Messenger

I would like to start out

by thanking Broad Street

Baptist Church for allowing

us to go on vacation this past

month. My family and I had

a wonderful time away and

are glad to be back. Again,

thanks!

It is not too late to join with our

Worship choir and orchestra. We will soon

begin preparation on our Christmas musical

with our friends from Westview Baptist

Church. We will be presenting the musical,

A Note from the Minister of Music

Rev. Eric Woods,

Associate Pastor

Kelly’s Korner

“O Night Divine: Dawn of Love’s Pure

Light.” So, if God has given you the de-

sire and the ability to sing or play an in-

strument for His glory, come and see me.

We would love to have you come and

help us lead our congregation in worship.

Blessings,

Eric Woods Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.

We are rocking along in

our new school year! I hope that

all of our teachers and students

have gotten settled in well. I just

want to remind you that every

day you walk into one of the

world’s largest mission fields. Use your words

and actions in a way that is going to honor Jesus

and lead others to Him!

In our Children’s Ministry, Awana has

gotten off to a great start! Things are running

well and we are excited for all that the Lord is

going to accomplish this year through Awana! I

hope you will be spreading the word about this

ministry and inviting families that you know

who have kids! September 7th is our first Theme

Night of the year. It’s RED, WHITE, and BLUE

Night! Everyone come decked out in your USA

gear!

Also, our kids will be taking a trip to

Monkey Joe’s in Warner Robins this month! See

the Children’s Ministry Newsletter for more info.

In our Youth Ministry, I’m very excited for

us to resume our Midweek Worship time on

Wednesday Nights. We just started a new series

on Wednesdays called The Big Picture. For the

next 15 weeks we will be walking through the en-

tire story of the Bible. The main purpose is to see

that the Bible is one big story…the story of re-

demption. Please be in prayer for myself and our

teenagers as we journey through the next 15

weeks.

With September comes the global day of

student prayer known as See You At The Pole.

This year it will be on Wednesday, September

28th. This is an amazing opportunity for students

to gather in front of their school that morning

and spend some time lifting up the school system

in prayer. More details to come on that! Thank

you, church, for your support and continued

prayers for our Youth and Children’s Ministries!!
