Some thoughts from Fr. Mike…

Dear Friends,

There may be a side to any of us that identifies with

the insecurities of the man in the Gospel passage who

was punished for not using what he was given wisely.

He was so caught up in himself and his fear of losing

the money entrusted to him that he failed to fulfill his

responsibilities. His life was not a story of success

because he showed little enthusiasm for the life he was

called to live. His excuses did not hold up and he was

forced to live with the results of his decision to be lazy

with the gifts of life.

The message of the Gospel is that we are called to

make as much out of life as possible, to tackle it with

enthusiasm and to go beyond ourselves to share

something of ourselves with others. It is worth

remembering that the times when we experience true

happiness and satisfaction are normally those which

find us immersed in caring for those who are in need.

In a real sense, we come closer to God when we help to

further the growth of God’s Kingdom on earth by our

actions.

Few among us will be given the opportunity of

performing the spectacular, but we should never forget

that we will be remembered for our little daily acts of

decency and kindness which we can easily dismiss as

being nothing special. Ordinary work, when done with

enthusiasm and a willing heart, helps the love of God

to be made visible in the dark corners of life. Our

intention should always be to do as well as we can no

matter what job we are involved in. With such an

approach, we can offer back to God the lives given to

us, more fulfilled and more enriched.

As we prepare for the celebration of Thanksgiving,

let us remember that there is no better way to express

our gratitude to God than by our willingness to

enthusiastically give witness to God’s tremendous

love.

May this coming Thanksgiving Day allow you to

remember all that God has offered you. I will be

praying that your day will be filled with the comfort of

knowing that God has much more in store for you.

May each one of us demonstrate that we do not take

God’s gifts for granted.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Peace and prayers,

Fr. Mike
