I hope everyone enjoyed their summer! I am so happy that October is here, as I love this time of year! I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce a new, although temporary, family member. In September, we were notified that Belmont Village Burbank was selected as a preceptor for the Belmont Village “Executive Director In-Training” program. This has been a successful program for the company as we are always looking to promote from within. Our first program trainee is Eric Thacker. Eric joined us the second week of September and has already made an impact on all of us. Eric grew up in Mission Viejo, and has spent the majority of his life in California. He has his bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in business, and a master’s degree in public administration. Although he intended on working for city government, Eric felt a connection to senior care, and decided to take on the role as an administrator in the skilled nursing sector. This is his first time working in assisted living and he is very excited to be part of the Belmont Village family. When Eric isn’t working, he likes to golf, ride his motorcycle, and play with his ten nieces and nephews. Eric’s desk is on the 4th floor near the laundry room. Please stop by and introduce yourself! Welcome, Eric! Save the Date! In affiliation with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, we will be hosting “Bingo with Bingo Boy!” on Sunday, November 6th from 2:00 to 4:00pm. With all proceeds being donated to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Jeffrey Bowman, a.k.a. Bingo Boy, our host, has raised more than $5 million for charity and has appeared on “Shahs of Sunset,” “LA Ink” and “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.”

Beautiful weather for our trip to thepark!

Circle of Friends News...This past month, residents in our Circle of Friends rung in the fall

season with a trip to Griffith Park for an outdoor picnic. Scenes ofchildren playing, leaves turning colors and the feeling of weatherchanging brought warm memories of seasons past. Other popularoutings were to the Gene Autry Museum--where residents reminiscedabout old westerns they saw growing up and a few fondly rememberedvisiting the museum when it originally opened! With our theme the pastmonth being “Travel to China,” several activities and crafts were basedon the theme of Chinese culture--including our lunch outing to JoyFeast. Here, residents enjoyed having a taste of the culture they hadlearned so much about while also enjoying the wonderful company thatis Circle of Friends!

Neighborhood News...It was another fun-filled month

for the Neighborhood! An onuswas placed on creating newactivities to ensure the “just-rightchallenge” is being met in fresh, exciting ways. Residents stillthoroughly enjoy putting theircrafting skills to use and therewere plenty of opportunities forthem this past month! Animmediate example are thelanterns they created in honor ofLabor Day. Lanterns weredesigned and assembled utilizingthe traditional colors of theAmerican flag. Another popularcraft was making papier mâchéfruits and vegetables inaccordance with our theme of thatday! Dog visits from Sweetie Belle, the gentle giant, remain a favoriteamong the residents (everySunday at 2:30pm if you want tosee her yourself). Here’s to awonderful October!
