students then celebrated with family and friends in McCarthy Hall and teacher
Mrs. Sherri Strickland presented the students with individual awards. Valedicto-
rian Annika Sharlow spoke to those gathered about the journey of their class

A Message from
Father

We have begun “the lazy, hazy, crazy
days of summer.” I guess for most of us
the summer months are somewhat
different from the other months of the
year. Given that we are no longer a
largely agrarian society, the whole
notion of “summer vacation” has
changed for most of us.
As someone who grew up in Benton
County, one of the most rural counties
in Indiana, I still tend to identify
summer with predominantly farm
activities. This is one of the reasons that
when people complain to me that it is
too hot, I often reply by saying that the
only thing that could make it better is if
I were bailing hay.
To most of our school students and
perhaps even to many of their parents
“bailing hay” is a foreign concept. Time
and our society change. My childhood
experiences are important to me and
even though the experiences of our
school children are vastly different from
mine over 50 years ago, I hope they
and all of us experience some of the
wonder of “the lazy, hazy, crazy days of
summer.”
SGO Donations Provide You a Tax Benefit
The Indiana General Assembly maintains the School Scholarship Tax Credit Program which provides financial assistance to income eligible households that could other-wise not afford to enroll their child(ren) in a tuition-based private school like St. Paul. The program is administered by Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGO’s) authorized by the Indiana Department of Education and Revenue. SGO’s raise funds for scholarships awarded by offering individuals and businesses state tax credits equal to fifty-percent (50%) of the amount they donate. SGO’s are 501(c)3 charita-ble organizations; thus making donations also eligible for a federal tax deduction. St. Paul Catholic School has partnered with the Institute for Quality Education (IQE) as our official SGO. By donating to IQE and designating your donation to St. Paul Catholic School, you can provide need-based scholarships to eligible incoming and current St. Paul students. Here’s how you can donate and receive your tax benefit:
To make a gift by cash or check, complete an SGO Donation Form (available at www.stpaulcatholicmarion.com) and mail it with your gift to the address listed.
To make a gift by credit card, visit http://www.i4qed.org/sgo/donors and click on the appropriate donation link. Then, in order to receive your state tax cred-it, fill out an SGO Donation Form (available at www.stpaulcatholicmarion.com) and mail or fax it to Choice Trust.
To make a gift of stock, please contact IQE at 317-951-8781.
If you have any questions about making a gift to help a child attend St. Paul Catholic School, please contact Kelly Scher in the Development Office by email at [email protected] or by calling 765-662-2883 ext. 110.
30th Annual St. Paul Auction Raises Local
Scholarship Funds
On Friday, May 8, 2015, over 150 people gathered in McKweon Gymnasium at St. Paul Catholic School for an evening of fellowship and giving. Over 300 items were
available for purchase in the silent and oral auctions. Celebrating the “Passport to Excellence” the school provides for students, attendees enjoyed reminiscing with classmates and old friends while making new friends as well. After enjoying a delicious meal of entrées based on different countries, the oral auction began. Popular items available in the oral auction this year included limo and lunch with the principal, a project from each school class, golf lessons, a Cajun/wild game dinner and more. To culminate the evening, the raffle drawing was held. The 250 tickets for a chance to win $10,000 were placed in the barrel. Winners of the raffle were:
$10,000 Prize Winner: Nick Wike $1,000 Prize Winner: Alan Carmichael $500 Prize Winner: Joe Certain $250 Prize Winner: Bernard Meyer
This annual event is made possible by the generous donation of time, talent and treasure of many St. Paul Catholic School supporters. Thank you to everyone who gave in their own way to make the evening a success. Through your generous support and commitment to helping families be able to afford a St. Paul education, hundreds of children over the last 30 years have been able to experience the “Tradition of Excellence” at St. Paul Catholic School. This year was no different with this event raising approximately $41,000 to provide scholarship assistance to fami-lies choosing to be a part of excellence!
A Message from
Principal Cindy
Mauman
With summer break comes a very quiet
school building. Children and their families
have scattered for summer family fun and
relaxation. Some of us remain here to wrap-
up end of year reports. The halls are eerily
quiet other than the rolling of trash carts as
classrooms are cleaned and the whirl of the
floor polisher. It is a time to reflect on
another year. What did we do well and what
can we improve on? We are quite proud of
our continued ‘A’ rating through the state of
Indiana. The students worked very hard on
the hours and hours of testing which were
required this year. 100% of our third grade
students passed the IREAD-3 test once
again. That is EVERY year since IREAD-3
began! I am also proud to say our enroll-
ment at this time is once again up over year
end for next school year. This steady growth
is exciting to see. A program which contin-
ues to grow is the G.R.E.A.T. program which
I introduced my first year as principal.
Grandparents Read, Enrich, and Teach is a
volunteer tutoring program where I have
invited St. Paul parishioners (they don’t
have to be a grandparent) to volunteer an
hour or two a week after school to tutor a
student one-on-one. This little extra time
has truly made a huge difference in the
performance of many of our students. I am
proud to say we had five parishioners and
two IWU students this year helping after
school. This is in addition to the after school
enrichment and tutoring which our teachers
volunteer to do. I am thankful every day for
the opportunity to serve in a school commu-
nity where our parish community, our staff,
and our families give such outstanding
support. St. Paul Catholic School is truly the
best kept secret in Grant County. I thank
you for the support we continue to receive
from alumni, as well!
God Bless You,
Cindy Mauman

From the Development Desk... Graduation season tends to cause people to reflect on where they have been and look forward to the future with many hopes
and dreams. With the quiet school halls and the summer sun shining bright, I find myself reflecting back on my first nine
months as Development Director for St. Paul Parish. It has been filled with times of excitement, nostalgia and hope. As a
parent of two children who have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to build their foundation of striving for
excellence by attending St. Paul Catholic School, it has been an honor to share the difference the school makes with others. As
I have met alumni, I have been intrigued by the memories they share and humbled by the pride they have for the foundation
the school provided them. As I have gotten to know current families better, I have been excited as I hear about the difference
the school is making for their children. As I have met potential new families, I have been hopeful as they explore the opportu-
nities their children will have as a part of the school family. Combining all of this, I know that I have landed in the right place -
a place where I get to share the “Tradition of Excellence” St. Paul Catholic School has provided to its alumni, continues to
provide to current students and promises to instill on future generations. I look forward to hearing from and meeting many
more alumni and supporters of St. Paul Catholic School as I know you share the passion for keeping the tradition alive.
