FROM THE DESK OF MONSIGNOR HEITING THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD… The Church rejoices today in the Epiphany of the Lord. St. Matthew’s gospel recounts the story of the Magi presenting to the infant king the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh from their treasure chests. There was, however, one “treasure chest” that refused to open: that of King Herod. Herod’s intention was not to seek out the Savior to do Him homage, but to do Him harm. Providentially, the Holy Family avoided Herod having
“departed for their country by another way.” This month, pray for all who seek to do harm and violence to others, especially under the guise of religion.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU, LISA… As is being announced at the Masses this weekend, Lisa Kremer, our Director of Faith Formation at St. Gabriel Parish in Fulda the last 10 years, is retiring at the end of this month. We are very grateful for Lisa’s leadership of this program, and for her love of the students and for our Faith Formation teachers and families. While we will miss Lisa’s expertise, we wish her all the best in the many endeavors that “retirement time” will bring.

Saint John Neumann’s Story Perhaps because the United States got a later start in the history of the world, it has relatively few canonized saints, but their number is increasing. John Neumann was born in what is now the Czech Republic. After studying in Prague, he came to New York at 25 and was ordained a priest. He did missionary work in New York until he was 29, when he joined the Redemptorists and became its first member to profess vows in the United States. He continued missionary work in Maryland, Virginia and Ohio, where he became popular with the Germans. At 41, as bishop of Philadelphia, he organized the parochial school system into a diocesan one, increasing the number of pupils almost twentyfold within a short time. Gifted with outstanding organizing ability, he drew into the city many teaching communities of sisters and the Christian Brothers. During his brief assignment as vice provincial for the Redemptorists, he placed them in the forefront of the parochial movement. Well-known for his holiness and learning, spiritual writing and preaching, on October 13, 1963, John Neumann became the first American bishop to be beatified. Canonized in 1977, he is buried in St. Peter the Apostle Church in Philadelphia. (cited from: www.franciscanmedia.org)

A “thank-you” from Maple Lawn Senior Care -
Dear St. Gabriel’s 4th and 5th grade,
We would like to send you a special thank you for
bringing us those beautiful ornaments. Our residents
displayed them proudly! They also enjoyed your
beautiful singing and your visits with them. You sure
made their Christmas a little more special. We hope
you enjoyed your Christmas and we want to wish you a
Happy New Year. Many thanks,
Annette Kremer “Activities Director”
Today is the Feast of the
Epiphany and we celebrate
the visit of the 3 Magi with
a special program by our
children/youth.
A special “thank you” to all those participating in
today’s Mass, especially to Holly Zins for directing
our children and preparing the liturgy for today.
Following the Mass there will be a Fundraiser

thank Edie and Jim Troje and their volunteer
helpers for preparing the breakfast this morning.
