From the cow to your cup

These pictures demonstrate how milk is produced.

Milk comes from dairy cows.

Dairy cows begin to produce milk after they have their first calf.

Metal suctions cups are attached to cows udders. They suck the milk out

and into pipes.

The milk is collected in a tanker every day. Tankers are insulated so the milk

stays cold and fresh.

At the factory, the milk is pasteurised to make sure it is safe to drink. Pasteurisation involves heating then cooling the milk to kill the bacteria.

The milk is squirted into bottles with machines.

The bottled milk is delivered to the shops in trucks.

There are many different brands of milk to choose from at the supermarket.

Your milk is now ready to drink and pour onto cereal.
