Comments from the President

After a colder than usual winter, spring is right here upon us!

We would like to wish all of our winter residents a safe journey when leaving here to return to “your other life”. When you come back in the Fall, hopefully the pool deck will be finished and the part of the road paving will be completed. I see the new chairs for the clubhouse have arrived. For those of us that are here to stay, it is time to take a good look outside....our shrubs and trees, for the most part, have continued to grow and in some cases have gotten out of hand. Let's begin to trim, add new mulch, check our gutters and pressure wash our homes. The newly paved roads give our community an added boost in appearance so let's make our homes sparkle! If you need help, please let someone know. Still looking for a few more ideas that may be considered for the upcoming year to improve our community continuing to make Kings Pointe the Greatest place to live! Again I would like to remind you to pick up after your animals and please, for your dogs’ safety and residents’ safety, please leash your dog when you are outside of your home.

Snowbirds, the postage to mail you a newsletter while you are up north is now 70¢. You can also download the newsletter from the HOA website: http://www.kingspointehoa.com .

Activities Committee Hits the Ground Running

Our newly formed Activities Committee has taken their new tasks and responsibilities seriously and is doing a great job providing activities and events for our residents. In addition, we are very fortunate for the resident participation in our activities to make them successful and enjoyable for all who attend. The Committee, along with a group of active residents, is even gearing up to sponsor another Asphalt Beach Party next year on March 14, 2015. The Caribbean Chillers will return to provide musical entertainment for us. Mark your calendars!!!!!

EDITOR’S NOTES Barb Van Epps ([email protected])

This edition is very full, so no editor’s notes this time.

The cutoff date for the May Newsletter will be April 16, 2014.

My thanks to Pam Pullen for proofing this Newsletter.

THANK YOU NOTES

I would like to give my sincere thanks and appreciation to my friends and neighbors for the many cards I received at the passing of my brother, Dewey. A special thanks to Maryanne for keeping an eye on my house and to Rita, Tori and Sandy for the beautiful flowers. Barbara Swofford

I would like to express my thanks to each and every one who sent cards, made phone calls, stopped by or sent flowers, showing all the love and support to me and my family on Carl’s sudden passing on February 20, 2014. Until now, I never realized just how many friends I have here. I send a special thanks to Anna Ott and Sheilah Henderson for taking care of Max that night, to Terry Ott for driving me to the hospital and staying with me until my family arrived, and Pam Pullen and Phyllis Wiepert for enlisting the help of the Handicrafters and the Garden Club to organize the gathering after the services. My family was touched by the outpouring of all the wonderful people who surround me, even the people who did not know Carl personally. He often commented that passersby would say “Hi, Max” but he said “What am I, chopped liver?”, but at the same time knew that all were his friends. Bless all of you at Kings Pointe. Sandra Moyer

I would like to thank all my friends and neighbors for their prayers and thoughtfulness with all the cards and food and goodies that made my recuperation from back surgery much easier. Also, I enjoyed all the visits in the hospital and at home from everyone. Kings Pointe! What a great place to live. Jaye Lobianco

Thank you each and every one who showed their thoughtfulness and acts of kindness with beautiful cards, flowers, phone calls due to the passing of our dear brother, Dewey Larmie. I truly appreciate it and may the Lord bless you all. Garnell Friend

I just wanted to thank everyone who participated in the going away party for Leroy and Shirley Sexton. I know they had a great time. I do appreciate all of your support and contributions. They will be missed. Again thank you. Michael McCraney What a surprise to see all our friends and neighbors gathered at the clubhouse for our Farewell Party. We will be leaving the 28th of March to be near family and Duke University Hospital near Raleigh, N.C. We thank God for his care and blessing us for having such caring friends. We especially thank Michael and Ray and others who helped organize the party. It was awesome. Leroy and Shirley Sexton

VENDORS Kings Pointe has many vendors with their own specialties coming into the park. I am keeping track of all the vendors that do a great job and also those that have been taking advantage of our residents. So residents need to continue to return completely filled out Vendor forms with i.e., vendor phone number, e-mails, and your rating of them along with any notes you want to add so that I can run a file system and keep it current. Any outside vendors that you have used in the past that are not advertising with us already, fill out a form. Vendor forms should be returned to the Activities Bulletin Board where there is a mail box for the forms. To get the best referred ones, with the greatest ratings, you can contact me at 863-280-6159 for references. Give me a call with any questions; I will be glad to help!! Thank you in advance, Bob Pelletier

SUNSHINE Donna Michnik

been 94 on May 17th. She lived a very full life and will be greatly missed by her loving family and

those of us here at Kings Pointe who had the pleasure of knowing this fine lady. Our sincerest

condolences go out to Wayne, Cathy and the rest of the Gangloff family.

BINGO At the end of this year’s Tuesday Night Bingo games on May 27th, Rolande and Harold Goldman will be retiring. After hosting the games for fifteen years, they feel it’s time to pass this on to younger folks with perhaps new ideas. If interested, call Rolande at 863-956-4479

A special thank you to Ron Stubbendick for graciously filling in as caller at Tuesday Night Bingo on February 25th.

TEXAS HOLD-EM Sal LoBianco

Let me start by saying thank you to Steve Mayforth. What a great job he did putting our third table back in playing order. It doesn't look like we will ever have a tournament of champs. We have 6 players waiting for Leroy Grossman to finish out of the money. Looks like I’ll have to put a bounty on him. I hope we can play the champ tournament before summer break. Anyone interested in dealing for us, please let me know. It's just once a month for a few hours. Once again, Leroy Grossman took home 1st place, Sal LoBianco 2nd and Jack Warner 3rd. Let me know if you want to play in the summer months. I will need at least 7 players up to 14 minimum.

VETERANS ASSOCIATION Michael McCraney, Commander

Good day to all of you here at Kings Pointe. Our monthly meetings are slowly coming to an end. Our last monthly meeting will be May 8th 2014. Don't forget fellow Veterans, our next meeting is on April 3, 2014. Check the duty roster at the clubhouse on the Veterans bulletin board to see if you have Coffee and Donuts for April. We will also be discussing our Memorial Day Service and our Veterans Lunch for our Kings Pointe residents. Cost this year will be $3. If you are a Veteran and would like join our Association, please join us at our next meeting on April 3rd. I want to thank Leroy Sexton for being a member of our Association for the past several years. We bid farewell to you and your wife, Shirley, and pray that your new life in North Carolina with your two daughters will be a fun and blessed time. So long fellow Veteran. God’s speed be with you and yours. God Bless America. God Bless you all.

ACTIVITIES The Ethnic Night was a huge success this year! We had 60 participants sampling food from all around the world made by our community! There were over 15 different countries and dishes represented that took up 5 tables and an additional table of desserts! A "HUGE" thanks to my perennial helpers-The Youngs, Otts, Lindauers, Pucketts, Zeets, Van Alstines, and our guests from Scotland. And, of course, my partners in crime---Linda Warner and Rita DeMore. Special thanks to Marie Venton for getting the supplies out. Let's make next year’s Ethnic Night even bigger and better. If you have a fear of "Ethnic" --what was your family’s favorite "go to" meal? Or what is your favorite dish to make?? Come join in the festivities and sample some great food!!! Sharon Czemerys The first Mardi Gras Pool Party --complete with live entertainment provided by The Masons, was another great success! The participants had a beautiful day to kick off the Mardi Gras season and Lent. Approximately 55-60 people attended to the delight of the music being played. Food was in no shortage this day either! A big thank you again to all of my "volunteer helpers"--The Pucketts, Lindauers, Youngs, Zeets, Van Alstines, Duane Hare and anyone else I missed. Also, thanks to Marie Venton for stepping in to help. A fantastic time was had by all!!! Sharon Czemerys Bob Pelletier Presents the Third Annual Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner.....First of all we would like to thank Phil from Solstice for having the dinner at no charge! We need to thank the girls for the vegetable prep and also the men who helped me put on the Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner. Without all of you, we never would have been able to do this dinner. A special thank you to Marie Venton and Diane Salisbury for making the desserts. My back is still hurting me, but it was well worth the pain having so many people pleased with the dinner. Due to circumstances beyond our control, unfortunately next year there will be no Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. Another event has been scheduled for that day. But never fear, we look forward to seeing you in our travels around the park. God Bless all of you and good health. Bob and Marcia Pelletier

Who Do You Call? With so many repairmen out there, how do you decide who to call when you need some work done? We want to give you a place to start your search. The Kings Pointe HOA would like your input to help compile a list of vendors who have done work for homeowners in the park. Sometimes a vendor’s work is excellent and we want to tell everyone about it. Sometimes their work is not up to par and we want to tell our neighbors about that, too. Below you will find a form to use to give us your feedback about vendors you have used. This should also include people within the park (non-businesses) who have done work for you. Please take a few minutes to fill it out, telling us the good, the bad and the ugly. Return your completed form to the box in the clubhouse lobby. If you need additional forms, they will also be available there.

KINGS POINTE VENDOR RECOMMENDATION FORM

Please take a few moments to let us know about vendors you have used over the past few years and let us know about your experiences with them. Fill out a section for each vendor you have used. Rate them from 1 star (not very good) to 5 stars (excellent work). Add any comments (pros and cons) you wish to explain your rating.
