FROM OUR PASTOR...
THE POWER OF GOD!
Recently Chris and I took a vacation with friends to Orange Beach Alabama. (It was to celebrate Chris’ 50th birthday. I’m sure you would not want to tease her about that milestone!) We stayed right on the Gulf. It was enjoyable to sip coffee and watch the waves and listen to them on a daily basis. Walking the beach you saw firsthand wave after wave after wave coming moving the sand or pushing people in the water, sometimes knocking them over. While we were there, tropical depression Cristobal became tropical storm Cristobal. Now the waves got bigger and stronger. The entire look of the beach was changed. I remarked more than once (ask Chris!) about the power of the waves. “If only someone could find a practical way to use the inexhaustible power of God to make electricity, just think of what that would do!” But, alas, to this point no one has figured out a way to make full use of the power God has put into the waves.
Sadly the same can be said about God’s true power. He has placed His real power, His most meaningful power, in His Word. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God said, “Let there be… and there was!” Think of how God encour-aged the despondent prophet Elijah showing His power not in great wind, firestorm or earthquake, but a gentle whisper…in His Word. “The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword.” (Hebrews 4:12)
Like the waves of the ocean God has made available an inex-haustible supply of His Word. We in America are so blessed to have free, easy access to His Word in some many different ways…print, electronic, video, TV, radio, podcast! If only some-one…STOP! If only I would make use of it. God’s Word changes my heart. It gives me faith. It fills me with the Spirit. It enables me to be kind and loving to all. It helps me hold back sinful nature responses that make my society nastier and uglier.
If you, like many Americans, would like to see a better America, get in the word yourself and then pray for more and more Ameri-cans to do the same. Help them if you can. God’s power will do the rest!

THE VESSEL THROUGH CORONA VIRUS (COVID 19)
By Alisad Banda
According to the “Merriam Webster dictionary” a vessel can be a container such as a cask, bottle, kettle, cup, or bowl. The vessel in most cases is used for holding or car-rying something. Admittedly, vessels are in many forms, shapes and types which are made for different functions. However, the common characteristic is that vessels are designed to hold substances such as fluids.
God in His wisdom has called people to be the vessels; indeed people cannot do any-thing good but by the will of God. As God’s vessels, He expects His children to
demonstrate Christ-centered love through the acts of faith, compassion, and mercy.
At the Lutheran (Mwembezhi) mission rural health centre, through our Brothers and Sisters in the United States of America, the staff in all departments of the clinic realize that being a vessel of God also demands that individuals live according to that calling. As a vessel of God, He uses individuals according to the abili-ties that He has entrusted in them to do His will.
God is still asking us to bring people to His kingdom, through that which He has instilled in His children, to be dedicated to his work and demonstrate Christs love through acts of faith. For man was created for such work, just as it is recorded in 2 Timothy 2 :21-22 “ If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be instru-ment for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (NIV)
The corona virus world pandemic has spoken to the world, to every race, regardless of an individual’s status in society. The world and national economies have been shaken through lockdowns. It is a reality that this pandemic could bring financial stress to families, lead to other health problems, cause family break ups, chil-dren stopping school, and companies closing up business indefinitely. The consequences of covid-19 are too numerous to mention but, as we live through this pandemic, we must remember that God remains the “Almighty God”, our Rock of Salvation.
The Mwembezhi clinic has been standing strong in its pursuit to offer Christs love and health services to all the people in this part of Zambia. Thanks mainly to our stakeholders who have contributed financial aid and material support in various forms, and with the individual expertise of our staff, we have all shown ways of extending God’s grace to our patients through being His vessels. Let us all pray for each other especially chil-dren who have been left without parents due to covid-19 and many other diseases, pray for the medical and administrative staff and volunteers at Mwembezhi who have done their best to see that the clinic remains a shining star, leading to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. For it has been your support in various forms that has aided all the operations at the clinic. To God be the glory for all the teamwork that has been done by all people both in Zambia and USA.

The WELS Missions office is excited to partner with the Lutheran Women’s Mis-sionary Society (LWMS) to host an online event called Taste and See! This first-of-its-kind event will combine the very best of Taste of Missions and LWMS Conven-tion to provide all WELS members an op-portunity to be an important part of gos-pel outreach occurring in our synod. Tune in beginning on Saturday, June 27, to
watch a livestreamed opening worship service with brothers and sisters around the world. From June 28 – July 10, learn about Missions through keynote presentations, recorded workshops, mission-minded daily devotions, and more. Participate in family-friendly scav-enger hunts, try your hand at making ethnic recipes shared by our missionaries, and ask questions during live Q&A sessions with Home and World Missions representatives. We will wrap up the online festivities with the livestreamed commissioning of new missionaries on Saturday, July 11.
A janitor is needed to clean our school and
early child care facilities. The position is
paid, part-time, 6-7 hours per day, 2-3 days a
week—there is some flexibility as per days
and hours. We hope to have the opening
filled by mid August. Speak with the pastors
or stop by the church/school office.
