LISTENING AND RESPONDING

There are three interwoven themes in today's readings: listening to God, faith vs. good works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they related? The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often cannot see, and we don't always see the results. We are called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and that willingness to listen to God's promptings will lead us in the right way.

NOVENA FOR THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN LIFE: SEPTEMBER 21, 2018

protected in law and welcomed in life. Our Father..., Hail Mary..., Glory Be…

LEARN Abortion stops a beating heart.

Abortion advocates usually refer to the human being growing in her/his mother's womb in dehumanizing terms

like "product of conception" and suggest that most abortions are done before fetal organs are functioning.

Actually, the vast majority are done after the fetal heart has begun beating. A baby's heart begins to beat at about 21 or 22 days after fertilization.1 That's at about 3 weeks of development. The vast majority of abortions

in the United States are done well after this point.2

LIVING ROSARY DEVOTION

The Living Rosary Devotion has brought the Roman Catholic communities of New Iberia together for many decades. We invite everyone to join us for this beautiful devotion on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 7:00 pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia, Louisiana.

Sacred Heart is in need of volunteers to participate in the Living Rosary. Everyone including families are encouraged to take part. Each Catholic Community in New Iberia will be participating. The needs of our city, our nation, the protection of the unborn, the protection from violent and devastating storms, the petitions that are placed in the petitions box, and the Diocese of Lafayette as it celebrates it centenary will all be prayed for this year.

If you or your family would like to be a part of the Living Rosary or would like more information about this special community event, please contact Russell Landry at 337-241-6812.

Catholic Stewardship St. James asks what our love for Jesus Christ can possibly mean if it does not result in action on behalf of, and to benefit, our neighbor. He suggests that faith in Jesus Christ is demonstrated most profoundly in our care for the needy, the suffering, and the underprivileged. Stewardship includes proclaiming the Good News by putting our faith into action on behalf of others. In what ways have we been willing to make sacrifices and renunciations for the sake of Jesus Christ and our neighbor?
