Hello all, I hope this newsletter finds all of you doing well. I will try to keep this article short and sweet. As you all know business has been very busy since the first of the year. From the indicators and forecast analysts it is expected to last at least into 2019.

I am sure that by now all our drivers are aware of the pay increase that was implemented on May 1st. In addition to the pay increase we were also able to provide a Per Diem Program. We are very thankful that we could increase our driver pay and implement this new program. The

pay increase equated to approximately 7% increase alone! We feel that our drivers work very hard, are out on the road for long periods of time, and deserve every bit of this increase. I am personally thankful to each of you for all that you do. The Per Diem Program is a great opportunity for our drivers to add to their take home pay, and at this time, we have approximately 85% of our drivers participating. If you are not aware of this program please feel free to give us a call and we will be happy to explain it and/or provide additional information.

At the end of April I had the opportunity to spend some time in our El Paso and Nogales Terminals. It was a real pleasure to be able to see and visit with some of our drivers while I was out and about. This is always one of the highlights of getting to the terminals and visiting our folks.

We still continue to receive new trucks and trailers. Last week CJ Peterson, Daniel Cook, Tom Eastridge, Matthew Scheirer and I went up to Chillicothe and picked up 5 of the units so we could get them in service. I don’t believe I have ever driven a nicer truck! The new 12 speed transmission is very smooth. As of this writing we have also picked up approximately 60 of our new trailers for the year. This project is moving right along and on schedule.

In just a couple of weeks the school year will be ending in most parts of the country. I am sure we will see an increase in highway traffic with families going on summer vacation. Please be extra cautious in your travels.

In closing, I again want to thank all of you for all you do for DHT. We cannot do it without each of you on the road, in the office, and in the shops. YOU folks are DHT!! Please be safe out there and I pray that God blesses and keeps all of you and your families safe!!

Keep on Trucking Safely!!!

1 2A Word From Our President Operations & Sales

Seeing Warmer Temps

The long winter has finally ended and I, for one, am happy to see warmer temperatures and more sunshine! 2018 has started out strong and we believe things will accelerate in the second half of the year.

By the time you read this, pay increases will be in effect and the per diem option will be up and running. We were very happy to provide our driving force with

a significant pay increase and options that may better fit your lifestyle. Identifying the per diem options was much harder. With the new tax law that was passed, you as an individual driver would no longer be allowed to take per diem as an exemption for the 2018 tax year. With the amount of time all of you spend on the road, this would have been an increase to the amount of federal tax you pay, in most cases. The option we identified allows you

to still receive per diem, but on a weekly basis through payroll. This system works by utilizing your home location and then e-logs and position history to decide if you will get per diem for each day. Please remember to adjust anything needed through your tax consultant to account for receiving this benefit weekly, instead of using it as a deduction at the end of the year. If you are not taking advantage of this option, I highly recommend you reconsider.

I recently traveled to El Paso and Nogales and gained even more respect for what each of you do daily. Fighting the high winds across NM and AZ was a battle along with the traffic. Most people in our country have no idea what our drivers put up with and sacrifice to supply them with food and other items. I am very proud to work with a group of people that do these things for so little recognition. Without the drivers at DHT, and all other trucking companies, the great country and economy we enjoy would not be possible.

Thanks to all of you for your hard work and sacrifice. God bless each of you.

Spring is Here and So are StormsMaintenance

Happy Spring

I am happy to see sunshine! It has been a while for the folks in Mountain City. We continue to take delivery of new truck and trailers and will continue throughout the year. We have made some great changes to our trucks; the biggest being the Paccar 12-speed transmission. We also changed the gearing for better

fuel optimization and driver comfort. These will all be Kenworth T680 tractors. Also, we have changed the mounting of the APU to avoid damage to the units in those tight places.

With spring here, we now must be aware of all the extra four-wheel traffic we have as holidays are coming up like Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. Also, schools will be out for the summer very soon in most places. So please be careful!

Let’s talk about PM Services. We are sending out weekly reports for trucks that are due to be serviced. The information from these reports indicate overdue

mileage and trucks that will be due from around 2500 miles. Please help us to keep all PM Services done on time.

And now Trailers: I am asking, again, to help us keep our trailers in good shape. We seem to have too many bump-ups and minor accidents out there! Also, dropping trailers with flat tires, lights out and mud-flap damage are the top three issues we deal with right now. If you have damage, please try and have the repairs made in route, preferably at a DHT shop, if possible.

One more thing please, remember the Clean Truck Policy Section 8, page 73-74 in the Driver Handbook. Please read it, and follow it.

In Closing, I wish all the drivers lots of safe miles!

Happy Trucking, and God bless,

Daniel Cook, VP of Maintenance

DANNY HERMAN TRUCKING, INC. | March / Apr i l 2018

Spring is here, and we have already seen a few of the violent storms that come with it. On the night of May 2nd, we had a truck near Anson, TX, on Hwy 277 during a very bad storm. High winds and tornados were in the area at that time. Either high straight-line winds or a possible tornado picked our truck up off the highway and dropped it in the median. The

driver was very shaken up but by the grace of God not hurt. As a result, the tractor is a total loss, but the trailer and freight were OK.

With that said, please be aware of the weather in the areas you are driving. We try and put messages out when we see or anticipate these events. As a matter of fact, I had seen the weather that night and put out a fleet message probably about the same time this happened. These storms are unpredictable and can

come on fast. If you are in an area with heavy storms, please use extreme caution. If there are tornados, find a safe place off the road and seek shelter.

Watch your speed in the rain! It doesn’t take much to hydroplane and

lose control of the truck and/or trailer. We don’t want you or anyone you share the road with to get hurt. SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST.This year’s a n n u a l 7 2 - h o u r

Roadcheck is scheduled for June 5-7. The focus for this year will be the E-logs; however, all inspections will be level 1, full inspections. As a reminder, you are required to have the DOT instructions for your unit in the truck as well as a blank log book. A team must have a log book for each driver. Drivers will also be required to know that we are not yet on ELD’s - we are using AOBRD. Please make sure you have both the instruction card and log books in your truck. We will be putting out fleet messages as well as posting more information on the upcoming Annual Inspection at the terminals.

We are still having a high number of preventable accidents. While most of these are little dents and scraps, they add up and are costing DHT a lot of money. These are a result of the driver getting in a hurry and or just not paying attention. If you are backing up your truck, you MUST Get Out and Look. There have been several messages put out about this, let’s make it happen. I did have one driver tell me that it makes him look like a rookie if he does that, I asked him how it made him look after he backs into someone’s truck and then they are down for 1 or 2 days for repairs? He didn’t have an answer for that. If you are in a hurry, please remember, it takes a lot longer to call us and the police for an accident report than it does to get out and look.

Please do your part in preventing these unnecessary events. We want everyone home safe and accident free.

Thank You & DRIVE SAFE

Think back for a moment early in your life. Think about all of the folks who have helped to shape and develop you as the person you are today. For me, that person is my dad. Last night, he was diagnosed with cancer. Needless to say, this has been a huge blow to our family. However, I was doing some woodworking and electrical the other day and was just thinking how my dad had taught me so many years ago how to do these types of things. He also taught me how to be a good husband and father to my wife and kids. I am the man I am today because of him. This morning, I called and spoke with him and told him what I am writing to you now.

I am not sure who those persons are in your life that has helped shape you or perhaps is in the background even now supporting you as you travel mile after mile, but have you taken a moment to open your heart to them and value their contribution they made in your life? I promise you that it will be the most rewarding things you can do not only for them, but for yourself. Don’t take your time with those closest around you for granted. Our time on this earth is short and we must seize the opportunities we have.

This reminds me of a story I recently read about Captain Charlie Plum. On his 75th mission, his last before going home to his new wife, Charlie was shot down, parachuted into enemy hands and spent the next six years in a North Vietnamese prison camp being tortured, beaten and isolated in an 8’X8’ cell.Years after returning, Charlie was in a restaurant when a man a few seats away kept looking and pointing at him. Finally, the man walked up and said, “You’re Captain Charlie Plumb.”Charlie said, “Yes.”

“You were stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk, you flew F4 Phantoms over Vietnam. On your 75th mission you were shot down and spent six years in the ‘Hanoi Hilton.’”

Charlie said, “Wow, how did you know that?

The man said, “I packed your parachute.”Charlie was speechless.

Luckily the man knew what to say.

“I see it worked!”

Charlie smiled, shook his hand with enormous gratitude and said, “Indeed it did, my friend! You have no idea how many times I’ve thanked God for your nimble fingers.”

The man continued, “Did you have all the panels?” Charlie replied, “No, I only had 15 (there are 18 in all) but that was my fault because I ejected at a low altitude and high rate of speed.”

Charlie then said, “Let me ask you something, do you keep track of all the parachutes you packed?”He said, “No, it’s enough to know I served.”

Wow. Charlie thought about how many times on a gigantic aircraft carrier, he, a proud fighter pilot, passed this enlisted man paying him no attention, a man whose job was to stand in a musty room folding parachutes exactly right… a man whose dedication to excellence would save Charlie’s life.

So, let me ask you… who packs your parachute?

Who’s got your back when you don’t even realize it? And how could you notice, appreciate and encourage that person today?

Kevin Hall 5/03/2018

“I was traveling on I-15 today and saw one of your rigs. As it passed me, I noticed a sign on the rear: Hope Romans 15:13. Wow, thank you for making a bold statement for the Lord. My wife and I mentor couples at our church and it is one of the verse’s that we have used when they are in turmoil. A remembrance of our great God. Please pass this along to the owners.”

Faith Den Elzen 3/27/2018

“Yes the deeper the love the greater the emotion Seeing my name on the back of a truck going down an American highway certainly makes me emotional and because of the Christian link too AMEN”Our Friend Faith Den Elzen lives in Australia and she follows us on Facebook! She was one of the 10,000 babies airlifted during Operation Baby Lift at end of Vietnam War. She was adopted and raised by a family in Australia. We have enjoyed getting to know her! She is a fan of DHT!

Joe Kimmons 4/8/2018

“Dear DHT, My name is Joe Kimmons, I’m a Trooper based in Oklahoma City, OK. A few months ago I was in a trying time with my While driving up the Turner Turnpike from Oklahoma City to walk with Christ. I felt distant from God and very broken. Tulsa, I began to pray out and ask God for his goodness. It was at this time that I came upon one of your trucks with the word “Love” John 3:16. I began to smile and feel comforted. As you know John 3:16 is all about sending Jesus for all of us, “me’. After a meeting in Tulsa I began to drive back to Oklahoma City. On the drive, I began to ponder if the sign was for me or just a coincidence. It was at this time that I passed by two more of your trucks all saying the same thing, John 3:16. It was at this time that knew beyond a shadow of a doubt HE was speaking to me and showing me his Love for me. Three trucks just like on the third day Jesus arose from the dead for us! Thank you so much for your obedience and commitment to spreading the love of Christ across the country! My wife and I are now beginning this summer to take our marriage ministry to a new level. It was shortly after this experience with your trucks that crazy doors began to open for us. A family in Texas who owns cabins in Colorado have donated several weeks in June to allow us to bring families to Colorado to slow down and reconnect as a family and hopefully grow one step closer to Christ.”Respectfully, Joe and Jennifer Kimmons, Generation #1 Nehemiah 1:9

LegalShield - Focus on Identity Protection You have heard of the biggest data breaches. Equifax, The IRS, Home Depot, Target. What you may not realize is that there have been tens of thousands of data breaches in the last five years. There have been 273 data breaches in just the first 3 months of 2018! Here are just a few of the 273 companies that have been data breached already in the first 90 days of 2018: Ø The State of Georgia Ø Ameriprise Ø One Main Financial Ø Prudential Ø Citizens Financial Ø Shutterfly Ø My Fitness Pal/Under Armour Ø Applebees Restaurants Ø Bed, Bath and Beyond Ø plus 265 more companies - many more just as well known as these!

The bottom line is that everyone's identity is stolen. End of story. That is the bad news.

The great news is that IDShield, brought to you by LegalShield - and available as a payroll deduction voluntary benefit, is able to restore your identity fully, is the best at it and will spend up to $5 Million Dollars taking care of you. In other words, you are covered!

Right now, our identities are being polished and built until they are perfected. The identity is then sold on the dark web at websites that remind you of Amazon or any other web marketplace. The average price is $20-$50 for polished identities. It is a HUGE industry. 90% of the web is unseen to you and me. It is called "The Dark Web"

Because of these facts, every person, at some point, will have a serious identity issue. Someday their number will come up. What can each person do?

Each person needs to take responsibility to have an identity protection service. IDShield is by far the most comprehensive (we have side-by-side comparisons with 9 others including Lifelock and 8 others.) None of them come close. IDShield is the ONLY PROVIDER that has Licensed, Private Investigators on staff and prepaid. When there is an emergency, you will speak directly to a licensed, private investigator. They are available 24/7 for emergencies such as a stolen purse, computer, wallet etc.

When an issue is serious enough, the Licensed Private Investigator will have you sign a "Limited Power of Attorney" which then allows you to focus on work, ballet classes and soccer with your children and grandchildren - while the investigator spends up to 5 Million Dollars restoring your identity, tracking down the criminals and getting them prosecuted. It bears repeating: No other service has investigators prepaid and on staff 24/7. How can you enroll?

LegalShieldLegalShield9 10

DANNY HERMAN TRUCKING, INC. | March / Apr i l 2018

The weekly cost for the IDShield is only $2.07 for an individual or $3.48 per week for an entire family, including up to 8 children. The $3.48 per week is the price if added on to a Legal Plan. If you want only the Family IDShield, then the weekly amount is $4.38. Enrolling is easy. Call Joel at 386-986-6859 or if you prefer to do self-serve, then simply go to DannyHermanBenefit.com If you already have a legal plan, then you can pick the "stand alone" IDShield for your family at the standalone rate.
