I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the
faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not
to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
II Timothy 4: 7-8 (KJV)
Mrs. Charlotte Alston Young was born November 5, 1932 in
Blythewood, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late
George Alston and Lelia McDaniel Alston Edger. On Sunday,
January 7, 2018, God called his angel home.
Charlotte was joined in Holy Matrimony to (the late) Odell Young.
Their union was blessed with a daughter, Debra.
She was educated in the public schools of Richland County. She
was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, serving on the
Missionary Board until her health declined.
In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte was
predeceased by two sisters, Jessie A. Mack and Josephine A. Nash,
and two brothers, Robert and John Edger.
Left to cherish beautiful memories and special moments are her
daughter, Debra Y. Scott; two grandchildren, Nikki and Chasity
Scott; two great-grandchildren, Ja’Cobi and Ja’Kayla Clarke, all of
Columbia, South Carolina; a sister, Sadie E. Shell, also of
Columbia; a special niece reared in the home, Jackie A. (James)
Robertson, and her children, Terrel and James (Olivia)
Robertson. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dixon
of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and good friends, all of whom miss her dearly.
I had to go, I could not stay,
So during the morning, I slipped away;
I loved you then, I love you now,
But I must leave you for a little while.
Please do not grieve nor shed a tear,
And I, in turn, will always be near;
Think of me when the bright sun shines
Speak of me with a gallant smile.
Jesus loves us all, so never forget
I’ve gone to meet Him in the sky;
I’ll be waiting for each of you,
In the sweet bye and bye.
