"KHUTBAH AL-WADA.“

(The Farewell Sermon)

• Dear Muslims, • Let us together increase our taqwa to Allah SWT by doing all His commands and leaving all His prohibitions. Hopefully, may we belong among those who believe in Allah, and always remember Him and hoping to meet with Him. 

• Today’s sermon would like to remind us of "KHUTBAH AL‐WADA." 

• Arafat has witnessed the occurrence of a significant event that cannot be forgotten by everyone who believes in Allah SWT and His Messenger ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). 

• This is where the Prophet Muhammad ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) delivered a sermon known as Khutbah al‐Wada' (Farewell Sermon), a sermon that touches the soul and feelings of every person present at Arafat and to all generations too. 

• Khutbah al‐Wada, if deeply refined, it is filled with messages and reminders to the people nowadays, guidance in all aspects of life, individual, community or country. 

• My dear brothers, • Even though the pilgrimage season has long gone, but our memories about Khutbah al‐Wada '(Farewell Sermon) had strong effects in the heart of Muslims. 

• In conjunction with the commemoration Maulidur Rasul, let us appreciate some essence from the messages of Rasulullah ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ). Among them are:

• First: The prohibition of killing people and taking another man's wealth in defiance of right; 

• Indeed, Islam puts the lives and property of people as a an honour which must be protected and defended. 

• Hadith of Ibn Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) said, "Verily your blood, your property and your honour are as sacred and inviolable as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours and in this town of yours.”  

• (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).

• However what we witness today how the life and property of a Muslim is no longer honoured as Rasulullah ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) warned. 

• How many of the Muslims who kill and rob each other. We see murders after murders Muslim countries in a way that is inhuman, such as in Egypt, Iraq, Syria and in other Islamic countries. 

• Look at how the property of Muslims were taken and unjustly confiscated, taken the wrong way, do with fraud, manipulation, extortion and others. 

• Acts contrary to the orders of the Prophet ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) will certainly bring the wrath of Allah and receive His punishment.

• Second: Leaving traditions and practices of jahiliyyah (ignorance), murder and (riba’)usury;

• Dealing with usury, which is practice today, is to increase the economy and practiced since the time of ignorance again. 

• Usury is cruel because it takes the rights of people in a wrong way. Thus, Islam has forbidden the practice of usury as stated in Surah al‐Baqarah verse 278: 

• O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers.

• Dear brothers,• Riba’ based economy is now the core economic system in the lives of individuals and communities. They applied this riba’ system without any guilt and fear of Allah. 

• Those involved with this stink practice do not have the feeling of guilt involving in this haram acts, as if this riba’ is halal. 

• They totally ignored the threat of Allah and His Messenger ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) of a painful chastisement which will they received on the riba dealings, as they are always looking for all kinds of excuses and reasons to say their actions are right. 

• Dear Muslims,• Third: Beware of Satan and upholding the religion; 

• Satan is the main enemy of mankind from the beginning of time. Satan will always invite people towards crime, aggression, disobedience, which would plunge a person towards destruction. 

• Allah says in Surah al‐Baqarah, verse 168‐169: 

• O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

• He only orders you to evil and immorality and to say about Allah what you do not know.

• Thus, to resist the temptations of Satan, then it becomes the duty of every Muslims to uphold his religious duties and preserving religion, life, intellect, lineage and property which it is the main things according to Maqasid Syar'iyyah. 

• All of these are the basic needs in the life of every Muslim. 

• Fourth: Prohibition of making haram what is halal and vice versa;

• Indeed, the question of halal and haram is the right of Allah SWT. Islam is the only religion that is able to keep the nature of humanity. 

• Islam does not justify the halal of things that bring harm to humans. Islam also does not make haram things that bring benefits to mankind. 

• What is halal is halal and what is haram is haram. That is the fundamental principle in Islam. 

• Allah says in Surah al‐Maidah verse 87: 

• O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.

• Fifth: Upholding the honour and rights of women; 

• Wives are a trust of Allah, and Allah has also legalized the relationship with them. 

• Islam has ordered the husband to maintain the rights of the wife and to be good in his treatment and relationship with his wife. 

• Even when advising, punishing and slightly hitting is in the purpose of educating in a good way. 

• Just as the husband has the right over his wife, keep in mind that the wife also has the right over the husband. 

• Hadith of 'Aisha that the Prophet ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said which means: 

• "The best amongst you is the best to his wife and I are the best of you to my wife." 

• (Reported by Abu Dawud and at‐Tirmidhi). 

• Dear brothers, may Allah bless all of you. 

• Sixth: Following al‐Quran and as‐Sunnah. 

• Hadith of Abu Hurairah that the Prophet ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) said which means: 

• "I leave behind you two things, you will never go astray as long as you hold with the both, the Book of Allah (Qur'an) and my Sunnah." 

• (Reported by Imam Malik).

• As a nation who believes in the Quran, it is our duty to make the Qur'an as a book of reading and the main reference in our everyday life and always seek refuge from Allah SWT. 

• Therefore, in this busy life, let us endeavour all efforts to make time for themselves and our families in search of the pleasure of Allah SWT. 

• Let us not be like the handful of people who claim to be knowledgeable but they do not read the Quran, and nor practice what is in it; they are not among those who will get the intercession of the Quran on the Day of Resurrection.

• Hadith of Abu Umamah al‐Bahili that the Messenger ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) said :

• “Read the Qur’an, for verily it will come on the Day of Judgment as an intercessor for its companions.” [Muslim]

• Seventh: To be obedient and loyal to the leader, as long as they obey the Quran. 

• A stable leadership for a country is seen as an important aspect in Islam. 

• Without the existence of a leader, the interests of people will not be properly maintained. 

• A country without a leader will descend into a state of chaotic where the strong will oppress the weak. 

• Without a leader, law of the jungle will be enforced and tyranny will predominated. 

• Thus, leadership is one of the main foundation in Islam. 

• Thus Islam has laid some foundations important about how the need for leaders to be obeyed in order to ensure political stability and prosperity of the community in an Islamic State. 

• Allah says in Surah an‐Nisa' verse 59: 

• O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.

• But Islam has put the obligation to listen and obey to a leader as long as the leader does not command things that are sinful in nature. 

• Muslim brothers, • Among the lessons learned from Khutbah al‐Wada '(Farewell Sermon) which can be used as guidelines in our life is; 

• 1. Muslims are obliged to fulfil the rights of Allah SWT, the rights of the Prophet ( ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ) and to human rights. These rights should not be mistreated and abused. 

• 2. Muslims are obliged to deal with financial institutions based on Sharia‐compliant for the happiness in this world and in the hereafter. 

• 3. Muslims must do righteous deeds as shown in life of the Prophet Muhammad. These good deeds serve as a protection of religion in this world and in the hereafter. 

• 4. Muslims must protect the sanctity of Islam and its teachings that is holistic and complete in all aspects of life.

• It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom ‐ although they were before in clear error. 

• Surah Jumuah:2

O servant of Allah, remember that this world is a place for temporary lodging. Truly, hereafter is the everlasting and permanent abode. So let us devote to Allah for obtaining happiness and escape from the punishment of 

hellfire.

• Allah says in Surah Al Ahzab verse 56:

• Which means:“Indeed Allah confers blessing upon the prophet and His angels (ask Him to do so). O! You who have believed, ask Allah to confer blessing upon him and ask Allah to grant him peace.”

• Let us pray that may Allah SWT beplease with the khalifahs ofRasulullah s.a.w i.e Sayyidina AbuBakr al‐Siddiq r.a., Sayyidina Umaral‐Khattab r.a., Sayyinda Uthman ibnAffan r.a., Sayyidina Ali ibn AbiThalib r.a.

• And to his companions who struggle to upholdthe religion of Allah, also to his uncles SayyidinaHamzah and Sayyidina Abbas r.a. and to hisgranchildren Sayyidina Hassan and SayyidinaHussain r.a., his daughters Sayyidatina Fatimah al‐Zahraa’, his wives Sayyidatina Khadijah andSayyidatina Aisyah r.a. and the other wives.Followed by his family, companions, followers ofthe companions and those who come after themfrom time to time until the end of the world.

• O Allah, forgive all Muslims and believers,whether surviving or deceased. O Allah, grantus glory and prosperity to those who fight andspend their wealth in your way such as thosewho pay zakat, waqaf etc.

• Ya Allah, bestow your guidance and help to the leaders and kings of the Muslim countries especially to Abdaka Al‐Harith Lishariatika Al‐Sultan  Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Al‐Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan and ruler for the State of Johor Darul Takzim.

• And to Raja Zarith Sofea Binti Al‐MarhumSultan Idris Shah, Tengku Ismail Ibn SultanIbrahim, Pemangku Raja Johor and, the Princeand Princess, the royal kinship, and allMuslims.
