You know what grinds my gears? St. Louis fair-weather fans and their overall sports ignorance. Now several lame members of the Senior class are chuckling because of their inside joke of "Mikey is a fairweather Blues fan" right now, so here's some facts for you read. Fact: I watched all 23 wins and 59 losses when we were the worst team in the NHL after the lock-out. Fact: Last year, when we were in last place, I predicted with 100% certainty that we would make the playoffs, and we did. Fact : The St. Louis Blues are winning the Stanley Cup this year. Now here's the problem. When they do win it, all of you terrible people out there will suddenly be standing up cheering for them. This is so pathetic. If you neglected to cheer for them "because they were bad" you are the definition of a superficial hypocrite. You either stick with a team, or you never cheer for them, there's no changing just because they're losing, that's so pathetic and further proves that you

just try to pretend that you're into sports because you think it makes you look cooler. But hey, your cover is blown when you try to talk sports because that too is pathetic. Last year at the Blues last playoff game, I was sitting with my fellow dedicated Blues fan Joe Altepeter to my right, and a bone-headed jock idiot to my left. This is the kind of kid who yells "Shoooot!" when we are on the power play like a moron who clearly has no idea how a power-play is properly executed. After we set up a fantastic back-side open net attempt, and Luongo makes a fantastic save, the Canucks cleared it out, and this kid is heard yelling "Oh man can't we even keep the puck in the zone!? We're on the power play!" Thank you Sherlock, I didn't know that, but in the meantime we just had an incredible scoring chance that was the power play, and it didn't include shooting it as soon as we get into the zone. Right now, the Rams are playing terribly. We all know that, and we will admit that we are not the best, but that is absolutely no reason to stop cheering for them and watching them. Be true to your sports teams and stop complaining. Don’t be fake, and stop being fairweather fans.

Necessity is not always the mother of invention. In fact, necessity usually results in a rehash of what has been done before, I just look at all the “best of” CD’s out there, and how they always come out at a time when the band is under pressure for a new CD. Yet, there is worse, some genres are essentially the same thing over and over again, and thus this week will be devoted to hard hitting investigational journalism. This week is dedicated to outing these cheaters among us.1: Country Music- I've got a bone to pick with these losers, as they have tormented me on several of my college road trips. There

comes a line, somewhere around central Ohio, where the faint, dying, rock stations signals finally breathe their last, and country stations fill the void. Once you pass this line, you begin to wonder why you did not bring more Cd's with you, and how in God's name do people listen to this junk. GAAAH, its all the same! Same voice, same theme, same music, dear Buddha, why have people not called country's bluff, and revealed their money making farce? There is almost no difference between these “ballads”.2: Funky Winkerbean- This “cartoon” is repetitious in a different way. It has different story arcs, but they all end in the same way, life sucks. This started when after 17 years of light hearted high school comedy, the creator jumped the plot

The Varsity Football team took on two strong ABC League opponents in their past 2 games- the MICDS Rams and the Principia Panthers. The MICDS game started off on a bad note from the very beginning. MICDS received the opening kick-off and lost yards on their first two plays. It looked as if they would go three and out but on the next play MICDS connected on a pass for an 80 yard touchdown. They never looked back from that point. The defense put the Rams in several tough spots, but let up far too many big plays. The score at the half was 35 to 14 in favor of MICDS. While the Rebels could have easily given up, they came out and played a very strong second half. The final score was 42 to 21. The Rebels had a strong week at practice and hoped to come out firing against Principia. Mike Puettmann had a career game with 2 touchdowns and over 100 yards receiving. Matt Jones scored the first touchdown on a 1- yard quarterback sneak. The second Priory touchdown came in the form of a 68 yard pass from Jones to Puettmann. The Rebels took a 14-13 lead into the half. Principia showed why they are one of the areas best in the second half. Principia ran several screen plays and halfback draws which proved effective against the Priory defense. P r i n c i p i a s c o r e d 2 s e c o n d h a l f touchdowns while the Rebels managed just 1. The final score was 28-21. The football team will take on the Herculaneum this week. This will be their first district opponent, so there needs to be a lot of fan support as the team will try and repeat as district champions.

Varsity Football Deafeated in Two Tough Games

The Priory Varsity soccer team started their busiest week of the season last Friday against Principia. The crowd was a huge factor lifting the superior Rebels to a 4-0 victory with junior Jack Wegmann tearing apart the Prin defense with a goal and two assists. On Monday, the Rebels took to the field against Lutheran South. South scored early in the game and capitalized on some Priory defensive errors. In the end, the Lancers were able to hold off and defeat the Rebels 3-2, despite a late goal by Doug Brooking, his second in as many games. Priory took the field again on Wednesday against the Affton Cougars. It took the Rebels little time to assert themselves, and they scored 4 goals in the first half, 2 coming from senior Ragen Frost. The Priory defense held strong the whole game, dominating the Cougar attack to give the combined efforts of senior Doug Hall and sophomore Jack Schmerold an easy shutout. The Rebels took to the turf on Saturday facing a tough Whitfield team. Senior co-captains Dan Croghan and Joe Altepeter anchored the Priory defense and kept the game tight until the Rebels scored twice in as m a n y m i n u t e s . J u n i o r J a c k W e g m a n n p l a y e d a b e a u t i f u l through ball to Andrew Rhodes who smacked the ball into the back of the net. Almost immediately after, Jack w a s o n t h e r e c e i v i n g e n d o f a magnificent through ball by Altepeter and capitalized. In the second half,

Whitfield scored on a penalty kick; however, Wegmann had yet another response. He smashed an incredible volley from 30 yards out into the top corner of the net. In the end, the Rebels held off Whitfield for a final score of 3-2. Priory played a tough game in the cold rain Tuesday against Lutheran North. North fought hard throughout the whole game and the Rebels were unable to break their defense. Therefore, the game went into penalty kicks with a 0-0 score line. Despite the best efforts of senior goalie Doug Hall, the Rebels lost in PK’s 6-7.

The past 2 weeks the JV football team has played MICDS and JFK. Against MICDS the clearly outmanned Rebels squad hung around with touchdowns by Jack and David Taiclet. But a scoop and score by the Rams in the fourth quarter pushed their lead to two touchdowns which proved to be too much to overcome. Jack Taiclet and Andy Schwartz both had interceptions but the Rams won 27-12. This past week the Rebels played Kennedy. Although Kennedy fought hard they were no match for the Rebels high-powered offense and shutdown defense. Thanks to touchdowns by Nate Watson (2),

Scott Telthorst, David Taiclet, Tychicus Sallis, Tony Cribbin, and Zach Kraus. Tony Cribbin was also 5-for-5 on extra point attempts. The Rebel award goes to Conor Whitmore who recovered his

4th fumble of the season. He also was on the receiving end of the biggest hit I’ve ever seen but was not phased, after being dragged off the field he said, “I can take a hit.” The Rebels won 49-0.

Basshunter's new album, Bass Generation, was released on September 29th. This album includes many great songs, including “Every Morning,” “Camilla,” and “Don't Walk Away.” Many of the songs on the album are enjoyable and they all have very upbeat techno sections. Most of these songs are great in terms of t h e i r t e m p o a n d b e a t . Basshunter also included a bonus version of this album. In the bonus album, he includes some radio edits and remixes, and also includes some new ones (Camilla). If you choose to buy either of the

albums, you will find that many of the songs still have the same basic Basshunter composition that can be seen through many previous songs. But this repetition should not hold you back, as the songs still provide great

sections of actual singing combined with the beastliness that is Basshunter. In my o p i n i o n t h o u g h , b u y i n g individual songs from this album is a much better choice, due to repetition of songs and some songs not even being in English. Therefore, you should definitely take a good look at this album and consider buying it, but you may just

want to pick out some of the better individual songs in the end. 3.5 out of 5 Stars.

Basshunter’s Bass Generation Review

Michael Bublé’s Crazy Love Review

Since the announcement that Michael Bublé is working on a new CD, the world's breath has been held in anticipation for the release of the album entitled Crazy Love. With this immense hype, I was nervous when I purchased this CD (only an hour after its release it should be noted) as to whether Michael would follow through. All my fears were for naught...not only did Bublé meet my expectations, he far exceeded them. Known for his silky-smooth Sinatra-esque voice, Bublé continues to deliver masterpiece after masterpiece. Indeed, when listening to this new CD in the library (quietly of course so as to not disturb my studious

comrades), QB Matt Jones asked me if I was listening to Frank. I replied, “No, I'm listening to Michael.” From start to finish this album really does center around the intricacies and inexplicable nature of romance. His remake of

“Cry Me A River” is simply phenomenal and his cover of the song “Crazy Love” is also ridiculously good. The only weak points of the CD are “Georgia on My Mind” and “Baby.” Bublé does a great job mixing throw back songs with his originals. “Haven't Met You Yet”, released a number of weeks ago to promote the new CD, is sheer genius. So, if you are ever in a crunch and do

not know what CD to pop in for your sweetheart, pop in some Michael Bublé and let the good feelings roll. 4.5 out of 5 Stars.

Last Thursday, on a cold, wet, and rainy night, the no. 24 ranked Missouri Tigers took on the no. 21

ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. Faurott Field was packed with anxious Mizzou fans as they waited to watch the big 12

north season start off. With the weather conditions brutal, both teams knew they had to rely on running the ball and

defense to win the game. Both teams in the first half played very good defense. Ndamukong Suh, no. 93 for the Cornhuskers, gave Missouri’s offensive

linemen trouble all throughout the first half. No. 12 Sean Weatherspoon and no. 9 Jasper Simmons stepped up and made

big plays defensively as well in the first

half for the Tigers. Between both teams, there were 11 punts during the first half.

During the second quarter, deep

inside their own territory, Nebraska’s long snapper snaps it wide and Nebraska’s punter throws

the ball into his own goal for a safety t o p u t t h e

down, with only two seconds left, Blaine Gabbert runs the ball in from the one and a half yard line to put the tigers up 9-0 to end the half.

With the rain continuing in the second half, the Cornhusker’s first

possession ends with a botched snap, but Missouri, even with good field position, could not capitalize and missed

a field goal. Late in the third quarter, with the help of a couple penalties from

Nebraska, Missouri nails a

Oklahoma State.

F u l h a m i s a n E n g l i s h professional football club based in London. Founded in 1879, they celebrated their 125th anniversary in 2004, and are in the top tier of English football, the Premier League. Fulham is the oldest professional football team in London, considered to have been founded in 1879. The club spent lots of time in the old First Division through the 1960s, but are yet to gain any major honors. The club has produced many British greats including Johnny Haynes, George Cohen, Bobby Robson, Rodney Marsh and Alan Mullery. They play at

the historic Craven Cottage, their home since 1896, a riverside ground on the b a n k s o f t h e R i v e r T h a m e s i n F u l h a m , having spent two years at Loftus Road while Craven Cottage was undergoing renovations to bring it up to Premier League standards. The club's training ground is located near Motspur Park, where Fulham's Academy is also situated, including a mini-stadium where the reserves play. In 1975, as a Second Division team, they contested the FA Cup final for the only time in their history, losing 2–0 to West Ham United. Fulham qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2002 by winning the Intertoto Cup, beating Bologna 5–3 in the final over two legs. In the UEFA Cup, they won through two rounds

before being defeated by Hertha Berlin. In the mid-1990s they had a brief spell

in the former Fourth Division, but within less than a decade, they advanced into the top flight. No doubt their n e w m i l l i o n a i r e chairman, Mohamed Al-Fayed played a crucial role. In 2009, Fulham had their highest-ever

finish in the top-flight, coming 7th to qualify for

Europe once again. And under the management of Roy

Hodgson, Fulham will look to stay as one of England’s finest teams.

Although they may not be in the best position on the table right now, they will hope to turn things around for another finish in the top half of the table and maybe even qualify for the Europa League again.

about a decade or two forward. Now, surely, the wacky cast of characters had hilarious adventures in the this new timeline, I mean it is a comic right? Let's see: Funky Winkerbean (Alcoholic, divorced from the love of his life), the class genius (committed suicide after finding out valedictorian will be based on popularity), the class prom queen (died of breast cancer), the jock (had an abusive father, and took steroids), the zany talk radio host (murdered in the last strip of his spin off comic), the sentient computer who was a Star Trek fan (probably smashed and burned by rabid anti-Microsoft hippies). Seriously, its like a Shakespearean tragedy!3: Gangsta Rap- I am running out of space here, so either refer to my review of this “music” last year (May 2009), or invent your own tirade.4: Superhero Comics- These guys got a serious dose of the Funky Flu, because they did a radical shift to the depressing. What was once a bastion of hope, and justice opening a can of Mr Combs (tm Toad beverage co), is now in a fierce competition to see what is the worst thing they could do to their characters. They can't seem to realize that you can only kill so many beloved girlfriends in gruesome ways before the fan base begins to catch on. For more info, type in “stuffed into refrigerator” on Google.5: Angry Editorial Rants- I am tired of these schmucks, and I am not going to take it anymore. YOU ARE NOT FUNNY! No one cares about what you hate, and what new reinvention of sarcasm you come up to express your dislike. Its already been done to death. The worst is when they try to seem even greater through self-deprivation, to quote Truman “stop being so humble, you are not that great.”

Editor’s note: Irony is not lost in this last paragraph, do not worry.

Going into this week all was looking good for Missouri sports. The Blues had won both games in Sweden, the Cardinals were a major force to be reckoned with, and Mizzou was unbeaten. The only team that wasn’t looking promising, the Rams, arguably played the best in a tough game against the almost unbeatable Vikings. But everything made a horrible turn for the worse with the Blues dropping two games at home, the Cardinals getting

swept by the Dodgers, and Mizzou blowing a 12-0 lead at half time to lose to rival Nebraska. The only team that did respectable was the Rams who held their own with the Vikings in everything but the score. After seeing this week’s utterly disappointing displays of failure by each team this week, I realized that this could very well have been the worst sports week in Missouri ever. It was so bad that on Monday morning, when I was driving in to school listening to Mike and Mike, they were even talking about how much this week sucked for Missouri. When you hear them talking about any Missouri sport, it’s either amazing or horrible. This time it’s horrible and after this week, I have given up all hope for sports teams in Missouri.

East, made a statement about Obama’s award. “We have seen no change in his strategy for peace. He has done nothing for peace in Afghanistan.” Many seem to think that Obama was given the prize as a congratulatory pat on his back for his winning The White House. It is as if the Nobel Committee just did this to nudge him in the right direction. “Here Barack, we trust that you’ll follow through with what you’ve been saying. Actually doing something at some point would be nice, but hey, in the meantime, here’s a medal. Congratulations on not being George Bush.” Alfred Nobel is rolling over in his grave. With this award, Barack joins the ranks of Woodrow Wilson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mother Theresa, Ellie Wiesel, the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Pope John Paul II. I just lied to you. Those

last two were never given this award. Over 50 years of simple, pure passivity by John Paul II and Gandhi, neither ever recieved a Nobel Peace Prize. 11 days in office: gold medal for Barack! This award is almost as embarrassing for Obama as it is to the Nobel Committee. Obama didn’t sign up for this, yet he is

still taking insults from his own supporters. This award is

almost as bad as renaming the Delmar Loop Barack Obama Boulevard (which I could then never step foot on out of principle). T h e n a g a i n t h a t

happened during the Primaries by naive Saint

Louisains pumped for Bush to leave The White House, so they are

hard to compare. Even so, Barack’s Nobel Peace Prize is completely unmerited. Give him four years, and he very well could prove himself to be the beacon of light that brings peace and tranquility around the world. Obama needs to be a man of action. As of now, however, he is unworthy of such an esteemed honor.
