We appreciate all of you who have participated in our activities this year. Thank You! Thank You!

Circles will resume on September 11th. We hope you will choose to participate and we encourage you to invite a neighbor or a friend.

Enjoy your summer.

Note: Please continue to bring non-perishable food items (canned goods and dry goods) throughout the year and place them in the NEED bin on the Oak Terrace. Thank you.

Potluck Breakfast June 24th during Sunday School!

The Evangelism Team invites all adults of SPPC and friends to a potluck breakfast on June 24th during the Sunday School hour.

The program will include some wonderful testimonies from church members who have grown in their faith and prayer life through the Prayer Partners program introduced in our Unbinding Series.

We will be explaining how Prayer Partners works, and giving all Saint Philip folks a chance to sign up for new, or additional prayer partners. In addition to matching regular members up with a prayer friend, we will take volunteers who would like to be prayer partners with homebound members, newcomers, and visitors as requested. You don't have to sign up if God isn't calling you right now just because you come eat with us!! We will be doing this the third Sunday of the 3rd month of every quarter, and commitment is only for praying together once a week for 3 months. At the end of three months you will chose to continue with your partner, change partners, add a partner, or take time off.

We hope this brings us all closer to God in our walk with Him; and helps us minister to each other. We want everyone to feel the warmth of the Spirit moving among us as we reach out to the folks around us with the hungry souls.

For questions, ask any e-team member. Sherri Siler, Greg Garis, Wendy and Robert Thompson, Christian Senagbe, Cecile and Robert Lemmon, Marilyn Matthews, Randy and Bitsie Welch, Jeannine Van Noy

BEARS + YOU = A HAPPY FATHER’S DAY ON JUNE 17TH

Presbyterian Women’s semi-annual bear drive for the ill children at Cook’s Children’s Medical Center will be held on June 17th. Bears have been scarce recently so to make it easy for you to find them, we will have cuddly bears available to purchase for only $3 each in the Oak Terrace on June 3rd and 10th. Please, will you purchase one/some for us to make ill children feel better at Cook’s? Parents, children and nurses thank you.

Dear St. Philip Friends,

Thanks to all of you for the many cards, calls, prayers and visits while I was in the hospital and rehab following my ladder misadventure this month. I was overwhelmed and humbled by all of your love and support. You are truly a great church. I have a ways to go before I am back on my feet. However, I am headed in that right direction. Thank you for all your support.

Rob Rippe

*********************************************** Dear St. Philip Friends,

Thank you so much for your expressions of sympathy in the passing of my mother. I am very grateful for your loving friendship and support. Blessings, Mary Gyarfas

Thank you just does not seem adequate to express our gratitude for your prayers, cards, and other expressions of support during this time of sorrow for our family.

All of you have been a great source of strength during these trying days, we have felt God’s grace and presence, and we have been blessed by each and every one of you.

Thank you, Cindy Burt, and the entire family member of Warren Burt

Note of the Week………………

I know that summer has arrived, children and youth are out of school, and vacations are in the works for families. The Chancel Choir, as well, is on “vacation” for the month of July and there is no “children’s church” for the summer. The Praise Band has finished, and the Philippians are taking a well-deserved “July” break. So………….it seems nothing is happening this summer…….Wrong! I would like to tell you about some exciting things that are going on! Quietly last Friday evening in the youth hall, a new ministry began in our church……a young adult coffee house with contemporary Christian music! Now I didn’t attend (because I was at the opera), but I wish that I had! Two young artists sang very well I heard and a seed was planted. Now, I’m very far from being a “young adult”, but I hope that we, as the church, will get behind this ministry and nurture it and support it. I plan on attending. How about you? (Look for dates and times in this newsletter.) Another new program “in the works” is something called the “Welcoming Music Ministry.” To welcome our visitors and members as they come in the church doors on Sunday morning, we will provide contemporary Christian music in Fellowship Hall. Everyone will be welcome to sing along or just listen before they attend worship. There will be more information about this program later, but don’t be surprised to hear joyful tunes as you walk in one Sunday morning! This Sunday the Chancel Choir is singing “Jesus the Very Thought of Thee” by Gordon Young. The words are familiar—Jesus, the very thought of Thee with sweetness fills my breast; But sweeter far Thy face to see And in Thy presence rest.—but this a cappella anthem has been set by the composer in a contemporary style. The results are a refreshing setting to an enduring hymn tune. See you in church on Sunday.

Joyfully Singing in Christ, Pam Cochrane

Katie’s Comments

It’s that time of year again. You know the one. The time where the mercury in the thermometer rises, the kids are home from school, and the thought of a hot meal can make your stomach turn. Yes, it’s summertime. This is the time when families make pilgrimages to beaches, amusement parks, the mountains, national monuments, state parks, and grandma’s house. Popsicles, ice cream, and snow cones become daily staples to help keep cool. Air Conditioners run at full blast around the clock and time spent in the pool is always quality time.

I love this time of year. I love the sunshine and the heat; but mostly I love the activities that the summer

has in store for me. I love going to Mo Ranch, Mission Trip, and Synod Youth Workshop with the Youth Group. I love watching all of the volunteers come together to make VBS a success (and also watching the children engage in all of the fun and learning a little bit more about God). I love getting to spend some fun fellowship time with my Youth Group friends at THYNG (THursday Youth Night Group). I love the easy pace and relaxed attitude of the summer.

However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you have a happy, healthy, relaxed time with friends

and family.

Happy Summer! Katie

A volunteer is being sought to prepare a special PowerPoint program for the announcements displayed on the TV in the entryway of the church. If you are interested in helping with this computer run presentation, please contact Rev. Garis at [email protected] or call him at the church office at (817) 282-9181.

Oak firewood is available by the dumpster for anyone to take.

Help Wanted: to stand at the Connection Point Table The connection point table in the entryway of the church is designed for visitors and newcomers to connect with the church. Church members may also go the connection point table to learn to ask questions about the ministry and mission of the church. If you are willing to help the Nurture

committee by standing at the connection point table to help visitors and church members please contact Gail Anderson at (817) 540-1281.
