COMMITTEE REPORT: Agency Leaders Committee
Prepared by: Mary Haban, APR
Date: April 11, 2014
Activities Since Last Report:
We’ve been hard at work planning the Agency Leaders Committee event for the month of May
-- which take place on the 15th of May and will be presented to the entire chapter as our
premiere program for the year. Last year, our signature event featured a nationally known
branding expert. This year, we’ll showcase the talents of two of the country’s leading digital
gurus.
Upcoming Activities:
We have amazing news to report on behalf of the Agency Leaders Committee, in terms of
speaker lineup for the May program, and the venue where we’ve selected to have this program.
Missy and I decided to venture out and select a location would attract a large number of
attendees, work with us on prices and venue costs, and have that something “extra” to offer
attendees and the chapter. We found this in Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant, located in a
premiere location across from International Plaza. In addition to easy parking, there is no
rental fee for the venue. In fact, the entire restaurant will be closed, except for our event. We
worked with the team at Roy’s on prices for the luncheon, which will include a main entrée,
salad, and dessert. Depending on attendance, the restaurant will work with us to
accommodate our group in one of three areas.
BusinessWire has agreed to sponsor our event in the amount of $500.00.
Below are the details for the May 15 program. It is already listed on the chapters’ site under
events, under the calendar area and will be promoted via the channels of social media a few
weeks out. Because of the relevance of the topic, we expect a robust crowd.
Bringing Content Strategy To Life
May 15, 201411:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Roy's Tampa4342 Boy Scout BoulevardTampa, FL 33607 Join senior digital strategists Josh Hallett and Dave Coustan for an in-depth, hands-on look at
digital marketing and learn how to deliver the content your constituents crave. Hallett and
Coustan work with major national brands like LinkedIn and Disney Parks to help them think,
act and operate like publishers. And by doing so, organizations are now using content as the
main means to connect and engage with their stakeholders – with significant results.
See why the “brand as publisher” model shifts from earned, owned and shared silos into a
content-based approach that forms the foundation for communications strategies shared by
public relations, marketing, social media and sales.
Learn about:
- The processes, tools and timelines involved in developing a content creation strategy
- Taking an idea from concept to reality through solid planning- Developing a framework - Staffing and resources for a skeleton crew or shoestring budget
- Selecting a platform and lessons learned in migrating platforms
- Creating a 2-3 year roadmap - The importance of the content strategy in terms of business/organizational results, like lead generation
Porter Novelli's monthly agency-wide digital global trends report, will be used as an example,
however, this session will help anyone with responsibility to create regular communications on
behalf of an organization, including newsletters, blogs, social media and website updates. This
session has lessons, approaches and application to internal and external communications in any
setting, B2B or B2C.
About the Speakers:
Josh Hallett is Senior Vice President, Voce Connect at Voce Communications, a Porter
Novelli company, and has worked closely with public relations practitioners and corporate
communicators to integrate emerging internet communication technologies into an organization’s
public and media relations strategies over the past 20 years. His clients include Disney Parks, Sony
Computer Entertainment America, PlayStation, NetApp, eBay and a number of other global B2B
and B2C firms.
Dave Coustan is Vice President of Content Strategy and Planning, Voce Connect at Voce
Communications. He leads and manages content strategy, planning, creation and development across
Voce’s client roster, including leading content strategy for clients including LinkedIn, NetApp, and
Applied Materials, and leading custom content initiatives for high profile Disney Parks initiatives.
Coustan also leads Voce/Porter Novelli’s content strategy and planning services globally, and
develops custom tools and programs for use across Porter Novelli’s footprint.
Thank you to our program sponsor, BusinessWire, and to our hosts, the PRSA
Tampa Bay Agency Leaders Committee.

March Program
Thursday, March 27, 2014
For the March program, we brought back the PRSA Masterminds program which was
well received last year. The luncheon was held at the Shriner’s International
Headquarters with catering provided by TooJays Deli.
The participants were divided into three tables with a mix of those new to the
profession and seasoned professionals from a range of industries and settings to provide
the opportunity for peer-to-peer advice on addressing their biggest challenges. While
registrations were lower than what we had hoped for, the 17 attendees were engaged
and said they got a lot out of the program.

Write-In Questions Tell us about your experience. What did you like? What didn't you like? Loved learning from other professionals, maybe a pane dicussion with leading PR professionals as head with questions from the crowd, would liked to have heard what the other tables discussed... just an idea. I realize it was a small group, but it wasn't fair to those of us who arrived on time to wait so long for the eight who either came late or didn't show at all. An hour lunch without the program starting was excessive. I would have got much more out of the program, if the structure part was at least an hour. I loved the idea, but the 30 minutes we had to exhange ideas in our groupls simply wasn't enough time. What other program topics would interest you? I would be very interested on hearing experts on Facebook Ads. I have been doing this mostly on trial and error and haven't come across any great resources to help me make sense out of this tool.
