Student-Led Goal-Setting Meetings

All parents should have received their appointments for their meeting next week between you, your student

and their Mentor Teacher. Year 13 appointments are in the early morning of Wednesday 3rd March and for

the rest of the school they are on Thursday 4th March. There are approximately 1200 appointments in total

so this is a big undertaking. It is also a significant undertaking in support of our wonderful students’ progress

and achievement this year.

Introducing New Teachers

Hayley Carter - Teacher of Health & PE

Tēna koutou katoa, ko Hayley Carter tōku ingoa. I have recently completed a bachelors degree in

Sport, Health and Physical Education and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching. I have a passion for all

things active and have experience in representative Softball. Everyone has been so welcoming

and I am very excited for the year ahead! I look forward to teaching rangatahi at Selwyn College.

Kit Willett - Teacher of English

Kia ora! I’m Mr Willett and I’m joining the Selwyn whānau as an English teacher. I love reading,

playing Dungeons and Dungeons and writing poetry. My favourite thing that I’ve seen so far at

school is everyone’s radical inclusion and acceptance of diversity. I also love our school library

and our fabulous librarians! I’m looking forward to all the joys and challenges of being part of

this community.

Sam Rippin - Teacher of English

After studying Psychology, Education and subsequently English, I found myself moving towards

teaching as a profession to better help Tamariki in a stressful environment. Whilst I have only

been at Selwyn College for a brief period of time, the way in which both students and staff have

welcomed me into their whānau has humbled me greatly. The school emanates an aura of

caring and I am proud to become a member of such a strong community.

Selwyn Girls Cricket is Soaring Already!

Our new girls’ cricket team coached by teacher Angie Winnington-Sharp has got off to a magnificent start to

the season soaring to take a decisive win over McAuley College in their opening match.

Top scorer was Ruby Sutherland 27 not out from just 38 balls. In addition, Ruby, Carys Silva, and Keira Barlow

all took 2 wickets. It was a great game, played with spirit and love from both teams.

Once again we would like to remind everyone of what the students have been told.

If you feel unwell – no matter how slightly – you must stay at home. If you arrive at school

unwell, we will contact your family and send you home immediately!

A reminder that it is compulsory for all students to wear a mask on public transport.

We are receiving complaints from the public that some of our students are not obeying this

requirement, which is disappointing.
