All qualified persons are equally welcome to

seek admission to the Georgia Institute of

Technology, and all persons may apply for and

accept admission confident that the policy

and regular practice of the Institute will not

discriminate against them on the basis of race,

religion, sex, or national origin.

Online decisions will be available based upon

the deadline at which you apply for admission.

For more information, please visit

www.admission.gatech.edu/deadlines.

General admission Guidelines

In the review of applications, our Admission

Committee reviews four primary factors: high

school GPA/rigor of curriculum, standardized

test (SAT/ACT, including Writing), extra-curric-

ular involvement (Leadership/Activity record),

and your Admission Essay. For a thorough

explanation of these factors and additional

information on our process, please visit

www.admission.gatech.edu/freshman.

Interviews and recommendations are not

required for admission purposes. All informa-

tion must be included on the application; do

not include any additional materials such as

resumes, high school transcripts, or letters

of recommendation. Use the spaces wisely

to ensure that your most significant personal

accomplishments are described thoroughly.

You may want to wait until the end of

September to submit your application so

you can include some of your senior year

leadership activities.

The PresidenT’s scholarshiP ProGram

The President’s Scholarship, Georgia Tech’s

premier merit-based scholarship, is offered

each year to approximately one hundred

outstanding incoming freshmen who have

demonstrated the ability to lead and motivate

others, strong communication skills, and a

superior scholastic record. Please visit

www.psp.gatech.edu for more information.

The deadline for the President’s Scholarship

is November 1. However, SAT or ACT scores

from the November test will be considered if

Georgia Tech is designated as an immediate

recipient of the scores. Students selected as

semifinalists will be notified by December 15

and asked to submit teacher recommendations

and participate in interviews. Finalists will

be designated in early February. For more

information, contact the President’s Scholarship

Program by phone at 404.894.2691 or by

e-mail at [email protected].

The honors ProGram

The Honors Program selection committee

reviews the application for admission and

supporting credentials of the freshmen who

have been selected for admission to the Insti-

tute. They will consider all of the information

you include with your application and will pay

special attention to your activity and leadership

record and essays. Visit www.honorsprogram.

gatech.edu for more information.

NAME

In Part I under “Preferred First Name,” please

include any variations of your name that may

appear on standardized test results or other

official documents that you will submit as part

of the application process. This will expedite

the merging of your application materials.

e-mail address

In Part I, please list an e-mail address you plan

to maintain and check regularly throughout the

application and enrollment process. Georgia

Tech will use the address submitted as an

official means of communication to contact

you regarding important information.

choosinG a ProGram of sTudy

While some students double major, you will

only be able to select one major on your

application. Our Admissions Committee

does not use the major you indicate on our

application to make decisions. If you decide

to switch your intended major after submitting

your application, please notify our office, so we

may assist you.

sTandardized TesT resulTs

All applicants for admission must take the SAT

or the ACT (one section writing is required

for all students entering Tech). Applicants for

freshman admission to Georgia Tech who wish

to enroll in the fall of 2010 will be required to

submit the writing assessment portion of the

SAT or ACT. Tech will use the highest critical

reading/English and highest math score even

if they are from different tests or testing dates.

Decem ber scores will not be considered for the

Pres ident’s Scholar ship competition. January

test results may not meet the admission appli-

cation deadline. Official test scores must be

sent electronically directly to Georgia Tech from

the testing agency. We will not accept scores

submitted on transcripts or from personal score

reports. Georgia Tech’s school code number for

the SAT is 5248, and the code for the ACT is

0818.

self-rePorTed academic record and

official hiGh school TranscriPT

As a freshman applicant, you must complete

the Self-Reported Academic Record. Georgia

Tech uses the Self-Reported Academic Record

to make a preliminary review of your academic

performance in high school and to offer provi-

sional admission. It is very important that you

complete the Self-Reported Academic Record

accurately. To do so, refer to grade reports

and transcripts from your high school. Please

list all academic coursework you have taken,

including your senior year schedule of classes.

Admitted students will be asked to send a

FINAL, official high school transcript to verify all

self-reported grades and courses. Please note:

Any discrepancies may invalidate an offer of

admission.

Guidelines for sTudenTs sTudyinG

ouTside The uniTed sTaTes

If you have been educated outside of the

United States at a school that is not accredited

by a U.S. agency, Georgia Tech requires all

international academic documents be formally

evaluated by an independent evaluation service.

This includes International Baccalaureate

programs that do not use a U.S. grading sys-

tem. Students must submit an official English

translation and a document-by-document with

GPA evaluation of their high school coursework.

The document-by-document with GPA evalua-

tion must be prepared by an accredited foreign

credential evaluation service that names and

describes all diplomas, certificates, degrees,

periods of education, or training and gives U.S.

equivalencies for each. We advise you to submit

official document to an independent evaluation

agency before december 1 in order to meet

the application deadline of January 15.

Any coursework from non-U.S. colleges and

universities will require a course-by-course

with GPA evaluation from a professional foreign

credential evaluator along with detailed course

descriptions.

For more information about international

transcripts, visit www.admiss.gatech.edu/

international.

Please read all instructions carefully. Failure to follow directions will result in processing delays.

GeorGia Tech academic honor code

(arTicle ii: secTions 1, 3)

Article ii: honor Code

Section 1. Statement of Purpose

The members of the Georgia Tech community believe that the fundamental

objective of the Institute is to provide students with a high-quality education

while developing in them a sense of ethics and social responsibility. We

believe that trust is an integral part of the learning process and that self-

discipline is necessary in this pursuit. We also believe that any instance of

dishonesty hurts the entire community. It is with this in mind that we have set

forth a Student Honor Code at Georgia Tech.

Section 3. Student responsibilities

Students are expected to act according to the highest ethical standards. The

immediate objective of an Honor Code is to prevent any student from gaining

an unfair advantage over any other student through academic misconduct.

The following clarification of academic misconduct is taken from Section XIX,

Student Conduct Code, of the Rules and Regulations section of the Georgia

Tech General Catalog : Academic misconduct is any act that does or could

improperly distort student grades or other student academic records. Such

acts include but need not be limited to the following:

• Possessing,using,orexchangingimproperlyacquiredwrittenorverbal

information in the preparation of any essay, laboratory report, examination,

or other assignment included in an academic course;

• Substitutionfor,orunauthorizedcollaborationwith,astudentinthecom-

mission of academic requirements;

• Submissionofmaterialthatiswhollyorsubstantiallyidenticaltothatcre-

ated or published by another person or persons, without adequate credit

notations indicating authorship (plagiarism);

• Falseclaimsofperformanceorworkthathasbeensubmittedby

the claimant;

• Deliberatefalsificationofawrittenorverbalstatementoffacttoamember

of the faculty so as to obtain unearned academic credit; and

• Forgery,alteration,ormisuseofanyInstitutedocumentrelatingtothe

academic status of the student.

While these acts constitute assured instances of academic misconduct, other

acts of academic misconduct may be defined by the professor. Students

must sign the Honor Agreement affirming their commitment to uphold the

Honor Code before becoming a part of the Georgia Tech community. The

Honor Agreement may reappear on exams and other assignments to remind

students of their responsibilities under the

Georgia Tech Academic Honor Code.

The complete text of the Academic Honor Code may be found at

www.honor.gatech.edu.

ssn disclosure sTaTemenT

(admissions/sTudenT-relaTed acTiviTies)

Federal law recognizes the student Social Security Number (SSN) as personally

identifiable information under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of

1974 (FERPA). However, the law allows Georgia Tech to request and to use this

information in compliance with state and federal guidelines. While you are not

required to provide your SSN to be considered for admission to Georgia Tech,

you are strongly encouraged to do so, if you have one. Providing an SSN will

speed up matching of materials such as transcripts and test scores with

your application. An SSN is required if you are applying for financial aid, for

federal tax benefits, or for employment; it may be required for other purposes.

The information may be disclosed only under the following circumstances:

Georgia Tech is committed to ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of

student records.

GeorGia Tech honor challenGe

“i commit to uphold the ideals of honor and integrity by refusing to betray the trust bestowed upon me as a member of the Georgia tech community.”

The above statement is the Georgia Tech Honor Challenge. It is a

commitment made by every student, faculty member, and administrator

in the Georgia Tech community. Every member of the community strives

to apply these principles toward academic pursuits and to every aspect

of our daily lives. We believe that honor and integrity are essential in

fostering an environment in which learning and research can thrive.

In an effort to remind the members of this community of their

commitment, the Honor Advisory Council has placed plaques displaying

the Challenge in nearly every classroom at Georgia Tech. During every

exam, quiz, and lecture, we hope they serve as a source of motivation to

uphold the promise you made when joining this community. The Honor

Advisory Council, a group of students dedicated to promoting the Honor

Code, serves as a resource for students accused of or wishing to report

an honor violation.

SELF-rEPOrTEd ACAdEMiC rECOrd: iNFOrMATiON ANd iNSTruCTiONS Please read all instructions carefully. Failure to follow instructions will result in processing delays.

SELF-rEPOrTEd ACAdEMiC rECOrd ANd OFFiCiAL hiGh SChOOL TrANSCriPTAs a freshman applicant, you must complete Part IV of the application, the Self-Reported Academic Record. Georgia Tech uses the Self-Reported Academic Record to make a preliminary review of your academic performance in high school and to offer provisional admission. It is very important that you complete the Self-Reported Academic Record accurately. To do so, refer to grade reports and transcripts from your high school. You must list all academic course-work and grades even if a course is repeated. If you are admitted, you must arrange to have an official, final high school transcript (showing your date of graduation) sent to Georgia Tech’s Office of Undergraduate Admission by July 1. We will use official FINAL high school transcripts to verify all grades. Please note: Any discrepancies may invalidate an offer of admission.

SChOOL NAMEFor each grade level, enter your school’s name and telephone number and check the appropriate boxes to identify the term system and grading system for that school. Next, enter the official course titles, honors status (if appropriate), and grades for every high school or college-level course completed during that school year or the summer prior to that school year.

ChANGiNG SChOOLSIf you changed schools between semesters, list both schools on the line provided in the order in which you attended. If you changed schools in the middle of a semester, only list the school granting your final grade for that semester.

TErM SySTEMUnder each grade level, check all the appropriate boxes to indicate the term system used at your school. If your school uses a calendar system other than the semester system (two terms per academic year), such as the trimester or quarter system, report all terms and grades earned on the Self-Reported Academic Record. If your school uses a block schedule, check “block” as well as any other types of terms, place a “(B)” after the course title, and copy your final grade for the year into the final grade box. If your school awards only a final grade at the end of the school year, copy that grade into the final grade box.

GrAdiNG SySTEMUnder each grade level, check the appropriate box to indicate the grading system used at your school. If your school uses a grading system other than alphabetical (A-B-C-D-F), consult your high school’s suggested conversion to the letter-grade system and list the converted grades on the Self-Reported Academic Record. List your grades exactly as they appear on your transcript.

hiGh SChOOL GrAdiNG SCALEUse your official high school transcript to complete the grading scale chart. List the numerical grade that corresponds with each letter grade. This chart must be completed for each grade level.

OFFiCiAL COurSE TiTLESUse only the official course titles as approved by your school and consistent with how it is listed on your transcript. Do not abbreviate course titles. If you have taken/are taking a course on a block schedule, place a “(B)” after the course title.

hONOrS STATuSIndicate any honors courses you have completed or plan to complete in grades 9-12 by filling in the honors course status box that follows the course title. Write (AP), (IB), (H), (G), (M), or (C) after the course name to indicate the type of honors. If you list a college course title, also note the name of the college. The Institute considers as honors courses only the following types of courses completed in grades 9-12. (List as honors courses only those courses specifically designated as such by your high school.)

AP Advanced Placement courses

ib International Baccalaureate Higher Level courses

h Honors courses certified by your high school

G Gifted courses certified by your high school

C College/university courses taken while you are enrolled in high school

M Magnet courses

TWELFTh GrAdE COurSESit is mandatory that you complete the Twelfth Grade column. Failure to complete this column will result in processing delays. Enter the titles of the courses you either are taking or plan to take during your high school senior year. If you have completed any courses, write the grades in the appropriate block. If you are still completing a course or plan to take it prior to graduation, place an “X” in the appropriate block to indicate when you will take the course.

ChANGES iN yOur ACAdEMiC rECOrdIf your academic record changes after you submit your application, you must notify the Office of Undergraduate Admission in writing.

international and home-schooled students are required to provide additional information and documentation to validate learning in core subjects. Visit

important: If we are unable to evaluate your academic record based on the information in the Self-Reported Academic Record, we may contact you or your school(s) for a copy of your tran-script. Note that your transcript should not be sent at the time of application, unless otherwise requested.
