Frequently Asked Questions

Baby Monitors

Question 1:

Why do the batteries keep running low?

Replacing batteries – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

You must replace the batteries with rechargeable batteries of the same type and rating

(see your user guide for the correct type). Using incorrect batteries or non-rechargeable

batteries could damage your product, cause overheating or a possible fire or explosion.

Batteries are available from the BT Helpline on 0808 100 6554. Calls made from within the

UK mainland network are free. Mobile and international call costs may vary.

Answer 1:

Your BT Baby Monitor Parent unit, when new and fully charged, has an approximate

performance time of 20 hours (the performance time will vary between models, check the

user guide for the approximate time for your model). However, battery performance will

diminish over time, usually after 12 months. If you believe the battery performance is too

short for the time you have had your monitor, then try the following:

Remove and then replace the batteries. Place the Parent unit on the charger and charge

for 16 hours.

Make sure you place the Parent unit on the charger after use.

If the batteries still do not hold their charge, they may have to be replaced.

If none of the above solve your problem, please contact the dedicated

Helpline for your baby monitor on 0808 100 6554. Calls made from within the

UK mainland network are free. Mobile and international call costs may vary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Baby Monitors

Question 2:

Why don‟t I seem to get a very good range?

Answer 2:

BT‟s Baby Monitors are tested to ensure that they have a range of up to 50 metres indoors

and up to 300 metres outdoors. The range is the distance the Baby unit and Parent unit can

be used from each other.

This range can only be achieved in ideal conditions when there is a clear line of sight

between the Baby and Parent unit. Any obstruction between the units will reduce the range

significantly.

In a normal home environment there are conditions that can affect the range so please

consider the following:

- The construction of the building in which the units are placed e.g. wall material,

thickness and dampness. Thick stone walls can severely affect the range.

- Make sure the distance between the Baby and Parent units is obstructed by as few

walls as possible.

- The Baby and Parent units should be placed away from other electrical/electronic

equipment e.g. TV‟s, PC‟s, modem/routers, microwaves, mobile phones etc. Ideally

these items should be at least a metre away, to avoid possible interference.

- The Baby and Parent units should be placed away from large metal items e.g.

fridges, freezers, microwave ovens etc.

Question 3:

Why am I receiving interference or noise on my Baby monitor?

Answer 3:

This may be due to several factors. Follow these recommendations in order:

The Baby and Parent units should be at least one metre away from any large metal

objects (e.g. fridges/freezers) or other electrical equipment (e.g. TV‟s, PC‟s,

modem/routers, microwaves, mobile phones etc) to avoid possible interference.

Make sure the distance between the Baby and Parent units is obscured by as few walls as

possible.

Question 5:

Why does the “link” light continually flash green?

Answer 5:

If you have pressed the button to use the Talk Back feature, the link light will flash to

indicate one-way communication between the Parent and Baby units.

The Units might be searching for a communication link. Check that they are within range

of one another and that both units are plugged in to the mains power with the power

switched on. If using batteries make sure they are installed correctly and fully charged.

Question 6:

Why is the “link” light continually red?

Answer 6:

The link between your Units is broken. You may also hear an alert to let you know there is

Frequently Asked Questions

Baby Monitors

Question 7:

Why can‟t I hear any sound but the lights flash?

Answer 7:

Check the volume settings, if set too low you will only get a visual indication. See the User

guide for instructions on setting the volume.

Some BT Baby monitors have a Mute All or Mute Low feature. If this feature is set to On

you will not hear any sounds or will only hear high level sounds, therefore, you will only

receive visual indications on the Parent unit. Check your User guide to see if you have

this feature and have accidentally set it to On, then follow the instructions to turn it Off.

Remove the Parent unit from the charger, turn the power off and then switch it on again.

Please note: if you carry out this action while it is in the charger it may cause the unit to

mute.

Helpline for your baby monitor on 0808 100 6554. Calls made from within the

Frequently Asked Questions

Baby Monitors

Question 8:

Why can I hear a high-pitched noise?

Answer 8:

The Parent and Baby units may have been placed too close to each other. They are

designed to be located at a distance from one another, e.g. in separate rooms.

The volume may be set too high, see the User guide for instructions on setting the

volume level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Baby Monitors

Question 9:

Why is my Parent unit giving a warning beep?

Answer 9:

• Please check that the power adaptor is connected and the Parent and Baby units are „linked‟ together.

• Is the 'link' light flashing as well? If it is, check that the Baby unit is illuminated. If it isn't,

ensure that the power adaptor is still connected. If it still doesn't switch on, test the unit in

another plug socket. If this doesn't work, ensure that the units are used at the recommended

distance. The wireless range is up to 300m outdoors and up to 50m indoors (in ideal

conditions, where there is a clear line of sight between the units).

• If you have a BT Baby Monitor 250 or Pacifier - check if the Feed Timer has been set. If so,

adjust the setting as required, see your user guide for instructions.

as the temperature may be too hot or you may need to adjust the temperature alert, see your

User guide for instructions.

unit for approximately 30 minutes.

• Are any buttons stuck down? If so trying cleaning first with a damp cloth or call the
