BienvenueThe Institut français is the official French government centre of language and culture in London, and has been teaching French since 1910.

Our CoursesIn addition to general language courses, we cover cultural, business and professional aspects of French. We offer a wide choice of courses and levels, either one-to-one or in groups, at an equally wide choice of days and times. You can take lessons at our two London locations, in South Kensington (full offer) or Kentish Town (Standard & Young Learners), or online.

Our TeachersOur 80 instructors are all native French speakers, qualified and highly trained professional teachers. We also hold regular seminars to keep our tutors up to date on the latest teaching methods.

Our ApproachWe offer a friendly and stimulating environment to help you gain confidence in French. The emphasis is on communication, both oral and written, through active student participation. All classes are conducted in French.

Helping You Every Step of the WayFrom the start, we make sure that you are placed in the most suitable class by arranging a free initial assessment. Throughout your French studies, we check your progress regularly. At the end of your course, you can request a certificate of attendance, specifying your level of French.

Giving You MoreWe are the only language centre that also offers you a cultural experience. All our students are entitled to free membership of our Cultural Centre for one year, which features a French library, cinema and bistro.

STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR PACE Choose the number of classes per week that suits you best (once, twice, three or five times per week) and the time of day that is the most convenient for you: courses can be taken Monday to Thursday during the day and evening, or on Friday and Saturday during the day. Our Online Courses can give you even more flexibility (see p.18).

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR TOPICGeneral French Standard Courses help students (levels A1 - C2) improve in all aspects of French. Intensive Courses strengthen your practical language skills as quickly as possible. Focus Courses will help you in your chosen field: Grammar, Conversation, Revision or Exam Preparation.

Professional French In addition to our Medical, Legal and Business Courses and teacher training programmes on-site, we also arrange in-house corporate training schemes.

Culture & Society With our Arts, Literature and Society Courses, you can learn about French culture while practising your French.

Young Learners Our Young Learners Programmes will prepare your son or daughter for a wide range of exams.

STEP 3: CHOOSE YOUR TYPE OF COURSEIf you enjoy studying with others and can commit to regular weekly sessions, then Group Classes are for you.

Our Combo Plus offer gives you the possibility to complete your group course with one-to-one sessions and access to our language laboratory.

If your French language needs are pressing and your timetable tight, try Private Tuition, our one-to-one tailor-made courses.

If you cannot study in South Kensington, you can try our courses in Kentish Town or our Online Courses.

CHOOSING YOUR COURSE YOUR PATH TO SUCCESS• Free daily assessments to ensure you are in the right classes.

• Our classes provide you with a real social environment that will help you learn. You will be completely immersed in French and experience French culture.

• Levels A1-C2 correspond to the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework for language learning as shown below. Each unit takes 30 hours to complete. To achieve one level, you need 3 or 4 units.

• In all our general French classes we use Echo textbooks and exercise books for adults learning French as a foreign language. Fees are exclusive of books.

Focus CoursesFocus Courses are great for those with Upper Elementary to Mastery levels (A2 to C2) who wish to concentrate on a particular area of French – Conversation, Grammar, or Revision – with the help of a specialist teacher.

Conversation Courses are designed for anyone interested in oral skills and use a variety of French media to stimulate discussions on a range of different topics.

Practise, and gain confidence with a Grammar Course.By practising your grammar in context, you will learn more and consolidate your knowledge.

PROFESSIONAL FRENCHProfessional French Courses aim to help students with Intermediate to Mastery (B1 to C2) levels to develop their language skills and techniques for the specific, internationally recognised exams (Diploma of Professional French) of the French Chamber of Commerce.

Legal French Courses meet students’ professional expectations in the field of law and prepare them for the DFP Juridique (Diploma of Legal French) B2 exam.

Medical French Courses meet participants’ professional requirements in the health sector, and prepare them for the DFP Médical (Diploma of Medical French) B2 exam.

Business Courses, based on an interactive approach, help students to communicate effectively by participating in problem-solving tasks, case studies and business simulations. EXAMS AND DIPLOMAS EXAM CENTREThe Institut français is a major examination centre in London for a wide range of official French language proficiency diplomas. It is accredited by the “Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques” (International Centre for French Studies) for DELF (French Studies Diploma) and DALF (Advanced French Studies Diploma) and TCF (Knowledge of French Test), and by the French Chamber of Commerce for Professional French Exams.

WHICH EXAM IS RIGHT FOR ME? • I want an official diploma for my studies: DELF / DALF or TCF

DELF and DALF, issued by the French Ministry of Education, certify the French language proficiency of foreign students. 3 sessions per year

TCF is a French language proficiency test required by French universities for the admission of foreign students. Up to 10 sessions per year

• I want an official diploma for my child: DELF Prim / DELF Junior

DELF Prim and DELF Junior are intended for children and teenagers. 3 sessions per year

• I want an official diploma for my CV: DELF PRO / Professional French Diplomas

DELF PRO corresponds to the professional version of the DELF. It is meant for people whose objective is integration or promotion in a French-speaking business environment. Professional French Diplomas (DFP) are offered by the French Chamber of Commerce and are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. 2 sessions per year

• I want an official diploma to emigrate to France or Quebec TCF Quebec is intended for people wishing to emigrate to Quebec and TCF French Nationality is intended for people wishing to acquire French nationality. Up to 10 sessions per year
