FREEDOM FROM HYPOCRISY

It’s Not about the Rules – 40 Days to Freedom

Page 3: Freedom from hypocrisy

The Rule –

There are two lives: the life we live in Berne, and the life we live outside of Berne.

Page 4: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

“But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong.

Page 5: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile Christians, who were not circumcised.

Page 6: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore.

Page 7: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision.

Page 8: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

As a result, other Jewish Christians followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

Page 9: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others,

Page 10: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

“Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions?

Page 11: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

“You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law.

Page 12: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law.

Page 13: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”

Page 14: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

But suppose we seek to be made right with God through faith in Christ and then we are found guilty because we have abandoned the law.

Page 15: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

Would that mean Christ has led us into sin? Absolutely not! Rather, I am a sinner if I rebuild the old system of law I already tore down.

Page 16: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God.

Page 17: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.

Page 18: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Page 19: Freedom from hypocrisy

Galatians 2:11–21, (NLT)

I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.”

RESIST THE TOXIC PRESSURE OF HYPOCRISY

Freedom from Hypocrisy

Page 21: Freedom from hypocrisy

“hypocrisy”“To give an impression of

having certain purposes or motivations, while in reality having quite different ones—‘to pretend, to act hypocritically, pretense, hypocrisy.”

Page 22: Freedom from hypocrisy

Matthew 23:27-28, (The Message)

““You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds! You’re like manicured grave plots, grass clipped and the flowers bright, but six feet down it’s all rotting bones and worm-eaten flesh.”

Page 23: Freedom from hypocrisy

Matthew 23:27-28, (The Message)

“People look at you and think you’re saints, but beneath the skin you’re total frauds.”

Galatians 2:11, (NLT)

“But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong.”
