DRAFT Minutes of the Spring 2015 MVORHanson Hills Campground near Kingdom City, Missouri in Calloway CountyApril 25th, 2015

The meeting was called to order by President, Alicia Wallace at 7:11 pm

Roll Call: All officers present and introduced themselves. Many thanks to the NSS Convention Planning Team for putting on a great event. Strong round of applause from meeting attendees. Attendance reported the attendance at 202.

Previous MVOR Minutes: Alicia Wallace asked for accepting or making any changes to the Fall 2014 MVOR minutes as posted in the flyer. No changes. Motion to accept the minutes made, seconded and passed.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer, Jim Donley, reported a beginning balance on 10-4-14 of $8,292.32 – Credit Union $4,276.57, Savings $4,015.75. Ending balance on 4-25-15 of $7,573.58 – Credit Union $3,553.30, Savings $4,020.26. Jim reported the annual report and provided several copies for anyone wishing to review. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report seconded and passed.

Old Business: None.

Upcoming MVORs: 2015 Fall – Daedalus – will be held Oct. 3rd-5th at Bird’s Nest Campground on the Meramec River, near Steelville in Crawford County. Offering 9 caves thus far. Rick Small said that we, the MVOR, would like to see attendance grow and that it can if everyone here would ask their fellow cavers. He asked that everyone ask at least one other person interested in caving to attend. Get them excited about it. Will offer Friday night free banquet and no late registration.

2016 Spring – MCKC – will be held April 29 – May 1 – working on 2 different campgrounds – both in Pulaski County. The focus will be to have a work weekend for the Goodwin Sink project. There’s a 11-mile cave system there just waiting to be discovered.

2016 Fall – no bids yet. Alicia asked that people think about hosting Fall MVOR and beyond.

New Business:Alicia presented the Lester B. Dill Award to Bill Heim for his past and continued service in caving and conservation to the region. Well deserved. Much applause.

Elaine Hackerman made the following three proposals:1) I move that MVOR draft minutes are posted on the MVOR website within 60 days of the MVOR business meeting and that approved minutes are

also posted within 60 days. Discussion, voted on and approved.2) I move that the MVOR flier is accessible to cavers via the MVOR website. Much discussion including making it public, definition of the word

cavers, etc. Alicia made the motion for the amendment of having sponsorship of new members coming to MVOR. She asked the MVOR was okay with that and all present approved. Voted on with Alicia’s amendment and both approved.

3) I move that MVOR officers and committee chairs be allowed to appoint assistants in fulfilling their duties; that the helpers are responsible to theperson who asked for help; and that officers and chairs remain accountable for fulfilling their duties. Discussion, voted and not approved.

Announcements:Alicia said that now the flier can be public, Daedalus and host grottos going forward, should utilize FB, Twitter, etc. to also help get the word out. She asked if someone would be willing to handle an Instagram account for MVOR – Ruthie Lanigan said she would do it. Way to go Ruthie!

Alicia also asked for the formation of a Registration committee and asked for volunteers: Jon Donaldson, Alicia Wallace, Mark Elbert, Allison Chambliss and Bryan McAllister volunteered.

Alici and Bryan announced that out of the few hundred addresses for this MVOR, 27 had asked to be emailed only. 2 of those were returned. Bryan stated if you want to save the region money, check the box for emailed flier. He asked everyone to please print clearly. Kirsten brought up the extra $2 to stay on the mailing list and asked if it’s emailed should they still have to pay. Alicia said that will be something for the Registration committee to try to tackle.

For those who don’t already know, we’re having the 2015 NSS Convention right here in Missouri this Summer – July 13-17. Much applause. This is an all-hands-on-deck event – there are many, many opportunities to get involved and you are encouraged to do so.

Andy Free said that he was Volunteer Chair – please contact him to help in any way possible big or small – there are ways that you can. There will be a great need for volunteers at convention.

Karen Hood, Publicity Vice Chair from the Pulaski County Visitor’s Bureau stated that in addition to the sessions and other activities for convention there will be some great museums, headlamp tours, etc. offered. She said to look for for convention articles in current and upcoming issues of the NSS News.

Mark Andrich (Elvis) brought up that Larry Abeln is Campground Chair and he is Campground Vice Chair. He reiterated that the MVOR needs to step up and help with the convention and that there are lots of opportuntities to help in making this convention a great one.

Allison Chambliss and Jon Donaldson are Registration Co-Chairs and Brian Andrich is Salons Chair.

Kirsten Mudd is Caves Chair and said some 200 caves are being offered including some cave-diving opportunties to those who are certified.

Annette Brostmeyer said that she will be helping out with Post-Convention, hosted by SEMO Grotto in Perry County and there are volunteer needs there as well. She also said she will be selling merchandise items for donations to Berome Moore Cave.

Kirsten’s got a MoBat raffle and MCKC silent auction is ending in 30 minutes.

Meeting moved to adjourn and seconded at 7:59 pm.

Respectfully submitted,Bryan McAllister, Secretary
