23867 B - Blue Tossed Ladies Print• Cut (2) 58" x WOF backing rectangles.

Note: Use a  ¼" seam allowance for all stitching unless otherwise indicated.

Completing the Framed Panel Blocks

1. Center and sew a 2" x 8" green weave strip to opposite sides of a 6" x 8" lady panel print rectangle. Press seams toward strips and trim ends even with rectangle if necessary. Repeat with the 2" x 9" green weave strips on the top and bottom of the rectangle. Press seams toward the strips. Trim the stitched unit to 8 ½" x 10 ½" with rectangle centered.

2. Sew a 1 ½" x 10 ½" mini stripe strip first to opposite sides and then to the top and bottom of the bordered rectangle to complete 1 Framed Panel block.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to complete a total of 6 blocks.

Completing the Balloon Blocks

Note: Refer to the cover quilt for positioning of the ap-pliqué pieces on the background rectangles to complete these blocks.

1. Trace 6 each balloon and basket patterns given onto the paper side of the fusible web, leaving ½" between pieces when tracing. Cut out shapes, leaving a ¼" margin around each 1. Fuse shapes to the wrong side of the fabrics as indicated in the cutting instructions. Cut out shapes on traced lines and remove paper backing.

2. Position a balloon shape on each 10 ½" x 12 ½" white/green butterfly rectangle referring to the cover quilt given for positioning. When satisfied with placement, fuse shapes in place referring to the manufacturer’s instructions.

3. Center and fuse a basket shape 2" below the base of each fused balloon shapes.

4. Finish the raw edges of the fused shapes using a decorative stitch such as a blanket or satin stitch and thread color as desired.

5. Add the lines connecting the balloon to the basket using black embroidery floss and a hand-stitched running or stem stitch to complete 6 Balloon blocks.

Completing the Quilt

Note: Refer to the exploded quilt diagram for position-ing of blocks, sashing strips and borders when piecing the quilt top.

1. Sew a 2 ½" coral mini dot strip to a 2 ½" yellow large dots strip along the length to make a strip set. Press seam to 1 side. Repeat to make a total of 6 strip sets. Recut the strip sets into (93) 2 ½" x 4 ½" segments.

Up and Away2. Join (3) 2 ½" x 4 ½" segments to make a short sashing

strip. Press seams in 1 direction. Repeat to make a total of 16 short sashing strips.

3. Join 1 Framed Panel block with 2 Balloon blocks and 4 short sashing strips to make row 1. Press seams toward the blocks. Repeat to make row 3.

4. Join 1 Balloon block with 2 Framed Panel blocks and 4 short sashing strips to make row 2. Press seams toward the blocks. Repeat to make row 4.

5. Join (9) 2 ½" x 4 ½" segments and add a 2 ½" coral square to the yellow end to make a long sashing strip with coral ends. Press seams in 1 direction. Repeat to make a total of 3 of these strips.

6. Repeat step 5 except add a 2 ½" yellow large dot square to the coral end to make 2 long sashing strips with yellow ends.

7. Arrange and join the pieced rows with the long sashing strips to complete the quilt center. Press seams toward the pieced rows.

8. Join the 1 ½" x WOF mini stripe strips on the short ends to make a long strip. Press seams open. Recut the strip into (2) 1 ½" x 58 ½" side border strips. Sew these strips to opposite long sides of the quilt center. Add the 1 ½" x 40 ½" strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

9. Sew the 5 ½" x 60 ½" ladies in balloons print strips to opposite long sides of the quilt center. Join the remaining 5 ½" strips on the short ends to make a long strip. Press seams open. Recut the strip into (2) 5 ½" x 50 ½" strips. Sew these strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center to complete the quilt top. Press seams toward the strips.

10. Join the 2 ¼"-wide coral mini dot binding strips on the short ends with diagonal seams, trim seams to ¼" and press open to make a long strip. Fold the strip with wrong sides together along the length and press to make a double-layered binding.

11. Remove the selvage edges from the backing rectangles and join along the 58" edges using a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim to make a 58" x 78" backing rectangle with a horizontal seam through the center.

12. Layer the quilt top with the backing rectangle and a 58" x 78" piece of batting. Pin or baste to hold. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with the top.

13. Bind the edges using your favorite method and the prepared binding strip to complete the quilt.
