ESTELLE Woodrow Hat & Scarf SET Designed by Kate Atherley Suitable for Men or Women

Difficulty Level: Advanced beginner – knitters must have experience knitting in the round.

Sizes & Finished measurements: If making both, make hat first. Hat: Teen/Adult S (Adult Average, Adult Large) Circumference: 18 (19.5, 21) inches – for a toque, choose a size 3-4 inches smaller than your head circumference; for a slightly slouchy hat, choose a size 1-2 inches smaller than your head circumference. Depth: 8 (8.25, 8.75) inches Scarf: Approx. 6 inches wide and 60 inches long. Materials: Hat: 1 skeins Estelle Yarns “Woodrow” (70% virgin wool, 30% polyester; 170m/100gm) 1-16 inch 4.5mm circular needle, 1-16 inch 6mm circular needle 1 set 6mm DPNs or long circular for magic loop method, for crown decreases Stitch markers Scarf: 2 skeins Estelle Yarns “Woodrow” (70% virgin wool, 30% polyester; 170m/100gm); sample uses colour #05, 6.5mm needles Note: hat and scarf set can be made from 2 skeins of the yarn, with no leftovers, if making both, knit hat first. Gauge: For hat: 16 sts and 20 rounds = 4 inches square in stocking stitch using larger needles, For scarf: approximately 20 sts and 16 rows = 4 inches in (k2, p2) ribbing, unstretched. Method - Hat: Using the smaller circular needle, CO 72 (76, 84) sts. Place marker and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist. Ribbing round: (K2, p2) around. Work ribbing as set for 2 inches. Change to larger needle. Medium size only: [Kfb, k37] twice. 78 sts. Knit even until piece measures 4 inches from CO edge. Crown Decrease: Note: Change to DPNs/Magic Loop when circumference gets too small for circular needle. Round 1: [K10 (11, 12), k2tog, place marker] 6 times around. 66 (72, 78) sts. Round 2: Knit. Round 3: [K to 2 sts before marker, k2tog] 6 times around. 6 sts decreased. Repeat the last 2 rounds until 12 sts rem, ending with a decrease round. Cut yarn and pull through final sts to close. Method – Scarf: Cast on 32 stitches. Ribbing row (RS): (K2, p2) across. Repeat ribbing row until scarf is desired length, or yarn is used up. Cast off in ribbing pattern. Finishing for both Hat and Scarf: Wash and weave in ends.
