PRESIDENT’S REPORT

By the time this edition appears wewill have completed another seasonof flying, though over here in theWest many of the events since mid-year have been blown out (I wish wecould be as successful at picking Lottonumbers as we were windyweekends!). The Australian team forthe 2015 world championships to beheld in Mongolia has now beenfinalised and we wish all involvedevery success, though with RoySummersby’s F1C WorldChampionship last year the bar is setrather high!

One of the highlights of the yearwas undoubtedly the purchase of thefield at West Wyalong thanks to thegenerosity of Jo and Adrian Bryantand support of the NSWFFS. A

number of very successful eventshave now been held there and nextyear we will be trialling splitting theAFFS championships at Narranderaand the Southern Cross cuporganised by NSWFFS at WW. This ispartly to hedge our bets with regardto strong wind and/or rain, but alsoto give people the opportunity tohave a look at the WW field. It alsolooks likely that NSWFFS will host the2016 Asian-Oceanic Championshipsat the WW field, giving us the rareopportunity for a major internationalfree flight event in Australia.

Browsing through a number ofweb sites, one thing that struck mewas the incredible range ofsophisticated, light and cheapelectronic accessories that could bevery useful in free flight models.These include sub-gram servos and2.4GHz receivers, microcontrollers,GPS (and, for us, highly illegal 6 and9 axis accelerometers andmagnetometers). Certainly a longway from a bit of smouldering stringfor a DT! Then there is the mind-boggling array of very inexpensiveelectric motors, batteries and speedcontrollers. In fact, as I write this I amlooking at a 13 gram quadcopter thathas 4 electric motors, 4 speedcontrollers, 6 axis accelerometers,2.4 GHz receiver and LiPo battery andcost under $40, and that includes thetransmitter! This must surely be theelectronic tinkerer’s heaven.

On the administrative side of things,Tahn Stowe has been suffering forsome time with Ross River fever anddecided to de-hassle his life a bit bystepping down as Secretary of AFFS.The Executive committeesubsequently invited Graham Maynardto take over this role and we have beenvery fortunate with his acceptance.Graham brings enormous experiencefrom his previous role as Chair of theMAAA Free Flight TechnicalCommittee. While that lattercommittee no longer exists, MAAA hasinvited all previous Chairs to stay onCIAM representatives and provideother services on an ad-hoc basis andGraham will continue in those roles.We hope that Tahn manages to get thedreaded fever under control soonerrather than later.

That finally brings me to the AFFSAGM to be held at the next AFFSChampionships. As required by ourConstitution, any matters to be raisedneed to be notified to the secretary inwriting at least a few weeks prior tothe meeting (the earlier the better).Similarly, any nominations for thepositions on the Executive Committeeneed to be sent to the Secretary atleast 7 days prior to the AGM.

season so this edition of FFDU looks different. It is definitely slimmer. ChimedGanzorig and Viacheslav Aleksandrov have written articles I am sure will interestthe competitors in our ranks, and Vin Morgan has an excellent article on how youcan build a strong bassinet for your precious babies.

With Christmas fast approaching I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and ahealthy, happy and safe New Year. See you on the flying fields in 2015.

Hello Roy!

Excuse for long silence. Differentaffairs didn't allow to concentrate andwrite the composition about theChampionship.

I will begin with weather.

Before Cups passed very heavy rainwith the hail, and at the beginning ofthe first Cup there was a strong fog inthe morning. But to 9 o'clock in themorning fog disappeared and verygood weather which was all days untilthe end of competitions began.Temperature 25-33, wind 2-4 metersper second. For models F1A it is idealweather. Only on starts  F1B in themiddle of rounds there was a calm andmodels sat down closer to start thanto picket. The best weather was onstarts F1C. Models sat down nearby,them well it was visible. At Verbitskyin the 4th round the timer stopped andthe model flew 47 minutes. Picket sawit in the field-glass and after landing itfound in 20 minutes. It on this modelflew to Fly off.

The equipment was different. It is alot of Babenko's models of differentmodifications. The T.Koster flew onmodel of the classical scheme from a

form very well, but broke servo. Thesecond prize-winner Ryokhin fromRussia flew on the model constructedaccording to Fuzeev's drawings as inFrance 2013.  Aringer too made afolder of the model. Motors generallythree producers - Nelson, Verbitsky,Fora. At me on two models Fora, ontwo VE.

In the final I received overtimeengine and start on model which flewin official flights 2 times. On Salonta'sCup in the evening of 7 minutes and inthe morning of 9 minutes 8 sec. and Itook the second place. The model flieda big circle. Sometimes I was afraidthat it will depart for edge of a field tocorn, but it came back and sat downmeters for 300-400 from start. Picketcontrolled it and gave command toinclude DT

In all additional rounds I waitedwhen the bulk of athletes flies up. Ididn't want overtime in each round.But weather was equal and it waspossible to wait. For 9 minutes IgorVivchar suggested to fly right after asignal, but Russians departed the first,behind them Babenko and EnglishmanNeil Allen. Only then I could startquietly the motor and fly up. After methe German departed. All models flewnot big circles and mine againdeparted round a field and I think it

there was a main thing that broughtme a victory.

The field  on whom passedcompetitions very big, but on himplaced buffalo shelters. When modelsflied to their that party it was visibleand it didn't disturb flights. But startscan't be placed there and thereforestarts were on not really big field onwhich edge there was a channel 3-4meters wide. If the model flew for thechannel, it was necessary to bypass far.

Behind a field there is a lot of cornand sunflower in which it is difficult tolook for model. Many models were lostafter the second cup. I looked for the3 hours and found incidentally.

Competitions and place werepleasant to me and next year I want togo there. A big field, but not such as inNarrandera. I send some photo of mymodel. All the best, once again excusefor a delay with the answer.

I have question on cyanoacrylate adhesive and theremay be an answer from an FFDU reader.

Over the last year I have had problems with a popularbrand of cyanoacrylate adhesive. It is the thinnestviscosity, is not old and flows freely. The problem isthat it sticks anything well but balsa, especially skin.

It was slow to go off and I took to using a “kicker” onmost joints. My frustration came to a head yesterdaywhen on completion of a stick and tissue fuselage foran open rubber model that included diagonals andcrosspieces; I tested its rigidity with a slight twist in myhands.

Immediately almost every joint fell apart and I was leftwith a handful of short pieces of balsa. Each joint wasbrittle and seemingly had no strength. Not all had hadkicker applied as they seemed OK when glue firstapplied.

This sort of joint failure has occurred with twosuccessive bottles of this adhesive; I use small bottlesto ensure reasonable shelf time is not exceeded.

Factors that may be operating are as follows. I knowthat the balsa has been in my balsa stock for at leasttwenty years. Does that influence performance?

Has there been a change in formulation of thisparticular adhesive? I do not know.

The adhesive is stored in the fridge until opened andthen in a cool, dark enclosure between uses.

Am I just not suited to using Cyano, although I have hadno trouble in the past? Any suggestions?

Aeromodelling Sports in Mongolia were created inmid-1960s, since that time children and youth began totrain with those sports especially in classes of free flight,control line and R/C categories.

The Mongolian Air Sports Federation (MASF) as theNational Air Sport Control (NAC), the MongolianAeromodelling Sport Association (MASA), and MongolianFree Flight Aeromodelling Clubs was initially organizingin 2005, the International Free Flight AeromodellingCompetition, named as "MongoIia Cup", in Mongolia forthe development and promotion of aeromodelling sportactivities among Russian, Japanese and Mongoliancompetitors. The Mongolia Cup as a

non-World Cup Event has been organized until 2010.

The 103�� Annual General Conference accepted theMASF as an Active Member in Class 10 with effect from 1January 2010. The Mongolia Cup expanded intoMongolia Cup as a World Cup Event that has beenorganizing every year. ln addition, we organize

"MlXMEN" Contest (Open international Event) betweenF1A, F1B, and F1C together.

We have organized the 2012 FAI Asian Championshipsfor Free Flight Model Aircraft (first category event in F1A,F1B, F1C) which was held from 15 to 21 July, 2012 inMongolia. We are going to organize the 2014 FAI Asian-Oceanic Championships for Free Flight Model Aircraftfrom 19 to 29 July 2014 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Ourvision is for developing, bridging and networkingaeromodelling activities among Asian and othercontinental countries in all the regions.

At the meeting of the Aeromodelling Commission(CIAM) in Lausanne, the 2015 FAI World Championshipsfor Free Flight Model Aircraft was awarded to Mongolia.The Organizer Agreement has made an approach to theFAI via the CIAM and has requested the right to organizeand stage the 2015 FAI World Championships in 2015,commencing on 27 July and ending on 3 August 2015and the CIAM has agreed to appoint the Organizer.

One of Best Flying Sites in the World- “Darkhan NoyoniiKhudag"

Mongolia has many great and big flying sites. One ofbest flying sites is the field of “Darkhan Noyonii Khudag"approximately 50 km to the east from capital city ofUlaanbaatar, Mongolia. This is one of the best free flightflying fields in the world. We organize the competitionssuch as FAI first and second category events and nationalchampionships as well local international cups in thisflying field.

An area of the field of ”Darkhan Noyonii Khudag" is atleast 7km by 5km of nearly flat grass land, no trees insight, and a smooth surface with short grass. The onlychanges of surface on the field are a very few ditches orridges which are clearly visible. You can see the flyingfield on internet by Google‐earth software with thepointer 47043‘59.90" N, 107023’34.17" E.

Most of aeromodelling and free flight clubs locate inUlaanbaatar and near Districts and other cities. All thepeople and competitors come to reach at the flying fieldby their own and rental cars or buses with a driver.

Other Flying Fields in Mongolia

There are several middle-size (at least 3 km by 3 km)flying fields located very near from the city ofUlaanbaatar for organizing of flyer kids’ competitionsand any types of the events for free flight, R/C andspacemodelling categories. Children and beginner, andprofessional competitors like to use and fly their ownmodels at these fields.

For foreign competitors, these middle-size flying sites(distances ~10-15 km) are compatible for training beforethe start of the competitions, when they stay at hotels inUlaanbaatar. If the competitors stay at the camp hotels,they should fly just near walking-on places and smallflying fields (~1‐5 km). All interested countries andcompetitors contact the Organizer to confirm theirarrival for training.

l mentioned above that Mongolia has many possiblewonderful flying sites for aeromodelling sport activities.However, the biggest issue is the distance. For the lastfew years, the transportation is very rapidly developingin Mongolia and then we sometimes organize theNational Championships and other events at thedifferent flying sites in province far from Ulaanbaatar.

For instance, the end of September 2013 we organizedthe national championship for free flight model aircraftin F1ABC categories was held in Dalanzadgad city ofUmnugobi province, named as South Gobi Desert ofMongolia, which is located from ~700 km far fromUlaanbaatar. The organizer and many competitors were

gathering and getting together to the event by their owncars and by local airplanes (twice a day) as well as bypublic transportation like as shuttle buses.

Most wonderful and nice flying field is located to theeast of Mongolia such as Dornod (~45O km) and Khentii(~250 km) provinces connected to Ulaanbaatar by highroad. We are going to organize next competitions onthese fields. Small and local events mostly organize onsuch fields.

Air Sports Community

Mongolia weather has four distinct seasons. You canfind vast steppes like nowhere on earth, deserts withsugar-like sand, taiga forests like in Siberia, high peakslike in the Himalayas, and mountain ranges like inSwitzerland. This nature is formed by the "extremes" ofhot and cold, cool and warm. You will see that Godcombined those different landscapes from allover theworld only in Mongolia.

The Mongolian Summer is short. An averagetemperature while the days of competitions in July forthe last few years were min. 15°C, max. 30°C. Theaverage wind speed approximately 2-9 m/s. Heavy rainsare rarely possible. Better to take with you a warmsweater and raincoat for any case.

Climate in Mongolia with four seasons is "extreme" ofhot and cold, cool and warm. Depending on the climate,we organize the competition events for free flight andR/C categories 10-14 times per a year at the national andlocal level sand 2-3 times per a year at the internationallevel. We help to do as an organizer, judges, andtimekeepers each other and work together.

Each competitor belongs to one aeromodel club. Wehave many clubs for free flight and R/C as well as schoolclubs for kids and high school students located not onlyin Ulaanbaatar but also in provinces of our country. Allclubs belong to the MASA as the organization foraeromodelling sports activities.

ln spite of aeromodelling sports have been developingin Mongolia, parachuting and general aviation areactively strengthening to develop for the last years.

Free Flight Activities in Mongolia Free flight is moredeveloping, for the last years, in Mongolia and a numberof competitors and beginners (children and youth) areincreasing after the first Mongolia Cup free flightcompetition since 2005. Free flight has already becomealready the main part among between aeromodellingsports.

Every year we organize the several events of free flightfor seniors and juniors in categories

F1A, F1B, F1C, F1G, F1H, F1J, F1P,and HLG. Other free flight classessuch as F1D, F1E, F1Q are not welldeveloped in Mongolia and we reallywant to develop these new classesand prepare competitors in nearfuture and then organize the eventfor such categories.

We have many clubs inUlaanbaatar and other cities as wellas centers of the provinces. All theclubs belong to the MongolianAeromodelling Sport Association(MASA). There is only free flight clubcalled Falcon Free Flight Club (FFFC)and others are clubs together withfree flight and R/C. The FFFC wasfirstly initiating the Mongolia Cup in2005 supporting with Japanese team.We have a big number ofcompetitors for F1A and F1H. Mostlyof them are juniors under 18 years ofage. The average age of competitorsfor free flight is ~30-35.

The Ministry of Education andScience started to implement thenational project named ”Flyer Kids"for three years since 2013. The firststage was realized in 2013 and over3000 kids under 13 years of age andapproximately 350 school teacherswere joined to training short~termcourses of Flyer Kids for constructing,doing, and flying of simple glidersand rubber light airplane. Thetraining courses are very attractiveto join school kids and their parents.

The second stage of the project isstaring from this year for middle- andhigh school students to teach how todo and construct the models of F1Hand F1A. Over 60 juniors willparticipate to the 2014 FAI MongoliaCup as World Cup event for F1Aclass. This is very big event of juniorsfor the first time in the world. Theproject's for Flyer Kids advisor is

World Champion for F1C, Japanesecompetitor, Mr. Shigeru Kanegawa.

We have not now a junior fullteam. We are going to make thejunior team from this year and ourjuniors’ age is still so young. Thejunior team is ready for the 2016 FAIWorld Championships. We havenational team for seniors. Mongoliasent the senior full team with manyhelpers and supporters to the WorldChampionships since 2009. We areworking to set target in increase ofthe number of competitors toadvertise aeromodelling sports’activities on the occasion of 2015Free Flight World Championships inMongolia.

lf new people and beginners areinterested in free flight, they have tobelong to the clubs and then do themodels themselves and train to flyfor starting the simple ones. Everyclub has its educational and trainplan and procedure as well asregulation for beginners. Seniorcompetitors have to pay the annualtax and competition fees. It is verysmall amount or sometimes free forjuniors. Senior and professionalpeople and competitors teach theirown experiences and skills forconstructing and flying and weorganize the seminars fortimekeepers and coaches.

National team members areselected by ranking for every twoyears between the WorldChampionships. We have the seriesof selection of competitions of 5-6events for ranking. All the scorepoints are considered to make ateam selection in order to makecompetitive and to enliven everycompetition, and so youngcompetitors are actively involved.The selection committee is finally

decided to announce the nationalteam members before theChampionships.

Every year we have one event forhigh school students. lt is called to"National Technical Olympiad". Firstthree winners are granted to receivethe invitation for entering toNational Universities supported bythe Ministry of Education andScience. This is very attractive fortalented and technical skilledchildren to support in future. Most ofthem are flying contentiously themodel aircraft and study hardly inscience and engineering universityprograms.

One of our missions is to developthe international relation andcooperation among countries andcompetitors. Free flight is not highlydeveloped in some Asian countriessuch as South Korea and then thecompetitions among Asian countrieshave been organizing in Mongoliaduring the last few years. Year byyear a number of countries areincreasing in the international eventfrom Asian and Oceanic countries.We always invite the competitorsfrom Russia and other countries inEurope and America as well as othercontinents.

In order to organize the first andsecond category events and to trainthe short-term aeromodellingprograms, many foreign people,competitors, and champions fromJapan, Russia, Sweden, Germany,France and Australia help a lot forexchanging the experiences and givethe useful ideas and comments. AFFS Champs information:

1. WORLD CUP EVENTS - are flown from a flight line in seven one hour rounds. Please assist by volunteering to timekeep.

2. Flyoffs will be organized after the event (start time, CD and timekeepers) but held the following morning.Durations for F1A, B & C, G, H, and J will be 10 minutes. For other events unlimited (conditions permitting).

3. OzD will be flown on the last day and therefore cannot have a flyoff the next morning. You may make a longer firstround flight (up to 10 minutes) as flyoff insurance in case more than one flyer maxes out. If you want your first flightto be considered as a flyoff it must be launched before 0900.

4. OPEN EVENTS - are 3 flights to a 3 minute max with no rounds and one unlimited flyoff the next day.

5. Gliders otherwise conforming to the F1H/A1 rules will be allowed in F1H at any weight provided they are fitted witha non-latchable towhook.

6. Old style F1J/Class 1 Power models – restricted to a plain bearing motors of less than 1 cc and no moving surfacesexcept DT – will be allowed an 8 second motor run in F1J (bring out your Mini Weavers and ½ A Vikings)

7. P-30 is 3 flights to a 120 sec. max. No rounds. One unlimited flyoff.

8. COMBINED % OPEN – is 3 flights (no rounds). Score is the percentage of the max for that class. HLG and CLG areallowed but are only allowed 3 flights i.e. no discards. Two attempts are permitted for each flight (a 20 secondattempt rule applies).

9. VINTAGE Glider, Rubber and Power will be flown as a combined event. You may enter more than one class. Champof champ points will include all entries. Note that the vintage cut-off date is 1956. You may make a longer first roundflight (up to 10 minutes) as flyoff insurance in case more than one flyer maxes out. If you want your first flight to beconsidered as a flyoff it must be launched before 0900.Vintage classes get bonus points (2 per year pre 1956) as per MAAA rules 2009

10. HLG/CLG/DLG are combined, not separate events. All flights from the box marked by 4 cones.

We are not permittedmotorized retrieval on the Department of Defence land (Field 1) and for Field 2, although motorized retrieval hasbeen allowed in the past, we have had problems with the dust raised by cars obscuring models and blanketing theflight line.

18. Smoking on the field is not allowed. If you smoke in a car the doors have to be closed.

CONSTRUCTION CORNER

Diana and her D-BoxDiana, for those of you that have

been in hiding, is my Nelson 40powered 3 meter span open powermodel. The model has been around forquite a few years now, but sadly it hashad its problems. Diana has met theground in a most undignified way fora lady, on more that one occasion. Onewith a burst fuel bladder, all otheroccasions it has been timer problems.If the timer stops on the way up, theVIT does not work, and the modeltakes a vertical dive. The last time atthe 2014 AFFS champs, Diana reachedthe end of her motor run and was at agreat height, when the timer refusedto continue on, so another verticaldive put an end to her flying for sometime to come. The main problems withthe Seelig timers is that they fall to bitswith vibration, or when a tiny piece ofrubbish gets into them, they just can’thandle the brute force of the Nelson.

The last vertical dive resulted in abroken boom (once again) somedamage to the front end, and whatappeared slight damage to the wings.The question I put to myself waswhere to go from here? Still havingthe wings and stab, the answer was anew fuselage but this time, completewith a Sidus electronic timer, like I amusing on my F1C models. These havethe advantage of an instant DT ifrequired. With the press of a button,the timer can skip all functions and gostraight to DT. Will the Sidus hangtogether, maybe, as it is mounted ona special rubber mount, but time willtell.

Back to the D Boxes. The verticaldives have resulted in many of the ribcap strips coming free, allowing thewing to flex. Easily fixed, just removethe top covering and reglue. This wasquite successful and the wing becamemuch stiffer, but there was still

movement. Further investigation,found that a lot of the half ribs in theD Boxes were broken, or had comefree from the carbon shell. Withoutthese ribs in place the D Box shell isallowed to flex, how to reglue theseribs was my next problem. I tried asyringe needle punched through theshell filled with zap. This will work ifthe ribs are still in contact with theshell; quite a few of Diana’s weretotally destroyed, so zap was uselessin these areas.

My next thought was to useexpanding foam, this product expandsabout 4 times and I was told it wouldblow the D Boxes apart. Some morethought was needed, but all mythinking brought me back to my foamidea. After some discussions withAndrew Linwood and Tahn Stowe, theplan was to make a mould that wouldclamp over the wing D Box and bestrong enough to hold the pressure ofthe foam as it expanded. I made themould mainly from pine, balsa/pine onthe top, lined it with glad wrap andclamped it on the wing. Holes weredrilled in the web from the rearbetween the top and bottom spars to

squirt the foam in, and allow theexcess out. How much to squirt in, Ihad no idea, it was just a case ofsqueeze the trigger and watch it comeout another hole, or catch it oozing outof where I had just put it in. Theinstructions on the can said it can keepexpanding for up to 4 hours sopatience was required, before movingthe mould on to another section thatneeded the same treatment.

The end result was a wing with a veryfirm D Box and no movement at all.Excess foam once it dries is easy toclean off with a knife. The web holeswere patched with some carbon sheet,

and the wing was ready for recovering.I should have stopped there, but Ibecame carried away with my successand changed the wings to a moremodern layout. It is now a six panelwing which will fit around my otherlarge wings in the model box.

Diana was of course named afterPrincess Diana, for if she crashed big

time it would be the end of her. Nowthe model has been rebuilt it will needa new name, so what should it be? Myfirst thought was Camilla, but I wastold in no uncertain terms that if thatwent on the wing, Di was going toleave me, so I think I will just have tocall her Sarah.

She walked up to me and she asked me to dance(Kinky, for those who remember)

The LOLA 0.33cc engineProduction of the Schlosser 0.25cc engines ceased some

time ago. But there continues to be a demand for enginesin the sub-0.5cc range from aeromodellers who like to flysmallish F/F and R/C sports models.

I have been involved in the mechanical design of a newlittle engine which could fill this niche and have recentlytested and approved a pre-production example. It is an0.33cc diesel which is based on the layout of the verypopular K&B Infant 020 Glow of 1949. All mechanical partsare re-dimensioned for traditional diesel operation,durability and long life.

The new engine is called LOLA. It is a long-stroke designwith a Ø7mm bore and 8mm stroke, so it starts very easilyand runs happily on larger props such as a 6x4. LOLA isbuilt in Europe for an American group and the pre-production example pictured is extremely well made. Fulldetails of availability and price will be available soon fromOWEN ENGINES. Bassinette Building

It goes against the style of DennisParker, a much loved founder of theWerribee Wanderers, who wouldarrive at the field with his car lookingas though the fully-assembled modelshad been hurled in from a distance,but if you are going to take the babieson any extended trips you do needsomething to carry them in. And thetrip is likely to be much moreenjoyable if that something is likely toprotect them from the tender care ofbaggage handlers.

Up in NSW they go for the foldedaluminium boxes. These have theadvantage of dinting rather thanbreaking. Plastic gun cases are anotheroption however wood is light andstrong and allows you to make a boxjust the right size. It also allows simpleand secure fitting of internal partitionswhich are necessary to prevent theheavy bits damaging the fragile bits.

This note describes a way of makingmodel boxes that are reasonably light,are convenient to work out of andwhich experience has shown give goodprotection for the models.

The boxes are made out of marineplywood. Joins are held on both sideswith fibreglass tape and the top andbottom sections are edged with hybridaluminium extrusion which, togetherwith the latches and hinges stiffens theside panels and greatly strengthensthe box.

Wakefield is a bit like golf. In golf youput the little ball on a stand and thenyou hit it with a club. Hopefully it goesquite a long way. You walk down tofind it in the grass and when you havefound it you hit it again. After a few bighits you use smaller hits to knock itinto a little hole. Then you pick the ballout of the hole and start all over again.

In Wakefield you set up the modeland put it on a stand. You wind up therubber, take the model out of thestand and launch it. Then you walkdownwind fetch the model fromwhere it has landed, bring it back tothe stand and do it all over again.

In golf there are usually eighteenstarts with the ball on the stand. InWakefield it is seven unless scores areeven in which case there are morestarts until there is a winner. In golf theaim is to use the minimum number ofhits to hole the ball. In Wakefield theaim is to achieve a maximum flighttime from each start.

I prefer Wakefield to golf because Iprefer aeroplanes to little dimpledballs and I find the skill set required ismore varied and interesting. In golf,the weather, the course and even theclubs have some effect on the numberof hits required to hole the ball butalmost all the skill is in the way the ballis hit. In Wakefield there are a lot offactors that determine the duration ofa flight. The design and adjustment ofthe model together with the winding

of the motor and the power of thelaunch determine the basic flight timethe model is capable of but because ofupdraughts and downdraughts,thermals and sink, flight time can beas dependent on the exact moment oflaunch as on outright modelperformance.

It isn’t easy to get the moment right,the wind right and the modeladjustment right. That’s why it’s fun.

My Personal TrainerFor Christmas last year, my wife (thelove of my life) purchased a week ofprivate lessons at the local health clubfor me. Although I am still in greatshape since playing on my high schoolsoftball team, I decided it would be agood idea to go ahead and give it a try.I called the club and made myreservations with a personal trainernamed Tawny, who identified herselfas a 26 year old aerobics instructor andmodel for athletic clothing and swimwear. My wife seemed pleased withsurprising enthusiasm to get started.The club encouraged me to keep adiary to chart my progress...............

MONDAY:Started my day at 6:00 am. Tough toget out of bed, but found it was wellworth it when I arrived at the healthclub to find Tawny waiting for me. (Sheis something of a goddess with blondhair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling

white smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Tawny gaveme a tour and showed me themachines. She took my pulse after 5minutes on the treadmill. She wasalarmed that my pulse was so fast, butI attribute it to standing next to her inher aerobic outfit. I thoroughlyenjoyed watching the skilful way inwhich she conducted her aerobicsclass after my own workout today,(Very inspiring.)Tawny was encouraging as I did mysit-ups, although my gut was alreadyaching from holding it in the wholetime she was around. This is going tobe a FANTASTIC week!

TUESDAY:I drank a whole pot of coffee, but Ifinally made it out the door. Tawnymade me lie on my back and push aheavy iron bar in the air ...then she putweights on it. My legs were a littlewobbly on the treadmill, but I madethe full mile. Tawny's rewarding smilemade it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!!!It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:The only way I can brush my teeth isby laying my toothbrush on thecounter and moving my mouth backand forth over it. I believe I have ahernia in both pectorals. Driving was

OK as long as I didn't try to steer orstop. I parked on top of a Geo in theclub lot. Tawny was impatient withme, insisting that my screams werebothering the other club members.(Her voice is a little too perky this earlyin the morning, and I hadn't noticedthat when she scolds, she gets thisnasally whine that is annoying.) Mychest hurt when I got on the treadmill,so Tawny put me on the stair monster,er, master. (Why in HELL wouldanyone invent a machine to stimulatean activity rendered obsolete byelevators?) Tawny told me it wouldhelp get me in shape and enjoy life.She said some other shit too.

THURSDAY:Tawny was waiting for me with hervampire-like teeth exposed as her thin,cruel lips were pulled back in a fullsnarl. I explained that I couldn't help

being a half hour late. It took me thatlong to tie my damn shoes. Tawny tookme to work out with the dumbbells.When she wasn't looking, I ran and hidin the men's room. She sent Lars in tofind me. As punishment, she put meon the rowing machine...which I sank.

FRIDAY:I hate that B*TCH Tawny more thanany human being has ever hated anyother human being in the history ofthe world. (Prissy, pretentious, stupid,skinny, anaemic, little cheerleader-wanna-be B*tch.) If there was a partof my body I could move withoutunbearable pain, I would beat her withit. Tawny wanted me to work on my

Just, hearing her mademe want to smash the machine withmy planner. However, I lacked thestrength even to use the TV remoteand ended up watching eleven straighthours of the weather channel.

SUNDAY:I'm having the church van pick me upfor services today so I can go and thankGOD that this week is over. I will alsopray that next year my wife (the otherB*TCH) will choose a gift for me thatis fun... root canal or a vasectomy!
