1. Canadian athletes have poor fundamental volleyball skills.

2. Canadian 16-18 year old athletes are around 100 hours/year short in the LTAD recommended amount of practice time.

3. Canadian youth are coached by volunteers, whereas other top countries use paid professionals

4. Very few athletes are training enough, in a quality environment. Target of 800 (per gender) across Canada for grades 10-12.

1. Provide training for 16-18 year olds 2 days a week for 6.5 months (100 hours). This allows us to reach the recommended 4 days a week for 9 months.

2. Provide training for 14-15 year olds 1 day a week for 6.5 months (50 hours). This allow us to help prepare these younger athletes for the increase of training recommended in the upcoming years of their volleyball career.

5 VCCE programs are running – Richmond, Langley , Abbotsford, Victoria and Kelowna. Plans to expand to 9 programs in the Province

10 new coaches. Primarily assistant coaches of CIS programs and head coaches of CCAA programs.

Grade 10-12 High Performance Stream• 24 student-athletes (12 boys, 12 girls or a ratio thereof)• 6:00am-8:00am 2 times/week• 1:6 ratio or better (6 athletes on one court)• 1 hour Strength and Conditioning sessions per week (with certified

coach, monitoring progress). • 26 week program• $1,820.00 program fee

Phil Wiens•The Bearcats are led by Phil Wiens, who is entering his first season as head coach. Phil played at Columbia for five years and spent the last two years as an assistant coach.  As an assistant he was an integral part of leading the Bearcats to their first CCAA National title in 2011 and a fourth place finish in 2012.   In his five years as a player, Phil was named team captain for four of the years and won numerous awards including the President's Award in 2010.
