FRANKLIN ROAD: PROJECT UPDATE MAY 2018

Franklin Road safe speedsWellington Street / Franklin Road intersection is now open to traffic.

The new roundabout at the Franklin Road / Wellington Street / England Street intersection is now open. England Street access will remain closed to through traffic until mid-May so new pavement construction and street light installation can be completed. The temporary speed limit of 30kph is still in place so please drive carefully and thank you for your patience.

Temporary 30kph speed limit on Franklin Road.During the Franklin Road upgrade there are multiple crews working alongside live traffic from Ponsonby Road down to Victoria Street.

Because safety is of the utmost importance, we urge travelling commuters to be aware of, and adhere to the reduced speed limit that is in place along Franklin Road throughout construction.

Commuters, please be mindful of the new pedestrian crossings at the roundabout and the existing crossing at Napier Street (image right) when travelling along Franklin Road.

Auckland Transport have also arranged for their maintenance contractors to carry out fortnightly leaf clearing works along Franklin Road.

Quick Updates Footpath upgrade

Footpath upgrade and new cycleway works along the eastern side of Franklin Road (from Victoria Street up to Wellington Street) have now recommenced and are programmed to be complete in July 2018. Some properties will be impacted by temporary vehicle access restrictions, but we will contact those directly affected prior to works commencing.

Safe pedestrian diversions are in place around the site but please continue to travel through the area with care.

The upgrade of the western footpath from Victoria Street up to Wellington will commence in July.

Pavement works

Pavement upgrade works on Franklin Road are programmed to commence next month. Asphalting of the eastern lane from Victoria Street up to Napier Street is programmed for early June 2018. These works will be under a stop-go traffic management system.

We will continue to asphalt Franklin Road between Victoria Street and Wellington Street (both eastern and western lanes) in sections to minimise commuter disruption. Notifications will be delivered to those impacted prior to works commencing.

Drainage works

Connection of the new Franklin Road storm water line to private storm water pipes between Scotland Street and Middle Street will commence in June 2018.

Eight new manholes are being installed along Franklin Rd (between Ponsonby Road and Wellington Street) as part of the Project’s upgrade works. Installation will be completed mid-May.

Installation of new catch-pits and catch-pit leads will be underway from mid-may between Wellington Street and Ponsonby Road.
