FUTURITY ON DUN IT FOR WHIZKEY Franco Bertolani rode Dun It For Whizkey to a score

of 224.5 to take the All American Quarter Horse Congress Reining Futurity Open Championship. He earned $33,609 for the win for owner Cardinal Hill Training Center. The son of Topsail Whiz is out of Dun It For Chex by Hollywood Dun It and he was raised at Cardinal Ranch.

Clearly the young stallion has been on a win-ning track since he topped the Hollywoodstin-seltown Futurity at the Tulsa Reining Classic in early September.

“I’m starting to think he can be special,” Franco said. “I never expected that he would be so solid. He’s easy to prepare and easy to show and the good thing is he does exactly the same inside the arena as he does outside warm-ing up.”

The Reserve Championship went to Shawn Flarida on Spooks The Hard Way (Spooks Gotta Gun-Im So Anson by Peppy Sol An-son) owned by Patricia Holtzman. His score of 222.0 netted $20,457.

In the Intermediate Open (L3) NRHA Million Dollar Rider Dell Hendricks topped the field on Gunnersstarbuck-snite. The 3-year-old stallion is by Gun-ners Special Nite X Starbucks Cocoa Bean by Smart Star-buck. Dell bought him as a yearling

in the Legacy Reining Breeders Sale. He was consigned to the sale by Larry Weihing. Dell sold him to the Gunnersstar-bucksnite Partners in June of his 2-year-old year. The

Gunnersstar-bucksnite Partners are: Rick Clark, Frank Costantini, Steve Opell, Don Tread-way, and Joe Wolfe.

Dell said, “It was a lot of fun to show at the 50th Anniver-sary of the

Congress. Gunnersstarbucksnite is a really nice horse and he tried his heart out for me. I thank my owners for their belief in me and my sponsors for their continued support. And I am blessed to have such a great crew at Hendricks Reining Horses.”

His fifth place finish in the L4 added another $11,690 in earnings. Co-owner Frank Constantini was excited about the win. “Being from Ohio, it is always nice to be able to do well in my own back yard, Having success this year, the 50th An-niversary of the Congress, brings back a lot of memories for me. it even more special. You know, last but certainly not least, Dell Hendricks deserves all the credit for Gunnersstarbuck-snite. He encouraged us to buy the colt and we decided to spread the risk among the five of us. Dell was spot on with his assessment and "Peanut" is exactly where we all hoped he would be in preparation for the NRHA Futurity. I can't say enough about how smart Dell showed Peanut or how pleased we were at the results!”

Fernando Salgado rode Hollywood Hype (Hollywoods-tinseltown X Shiners Miss Lena by Shining Spark) to the L3 Reserve title, scoring 220 to claim $7,492 for owners Hum-phrey Quarter Horses. Salgado also split the Limited Open Championship with Josh Murphy.

Fernando rode Chicsdreamofdiamonds (Magnum Chic Dream-Princess in Diamonds by Shining Spark) owned by Amy Medows to a score of 219.5 and Josh Murphy did the same on CBK Hang A Wright (Hang Ten Surprize X HR Wright On Cash by Lenas Wright On) owned by William E and Corliss Kellog. Each earned $2,766.

Jim Morgan Tops Non Pro on Shiney Workboots

Dr. Jim Morgan scored 219.5 to win the Non Pro Futu-rity on Shiney Workbooks (Smart and Shiney X Reminic At Work by Reminic N Dunit). That netted him $8,920, but there was more good fortune for Morgan!He took the Reserve Non Pro title on Partychicatrashya, a daughter of Gunnatrashya out of Lenas Party Chics by Lenas Sugarman with a score of 218.5 and that was good for another $5,430!

And it just kept paying as he also won the L3 champion and reserve titles, good for another $5,664 and $3,448, respectively. Finally, he topped the Primetime Non Pro for another $802 and $630.

Alex Purus won the Limited Non pro with a score of 217.5 on Sure Slidin Smart (Smart Like Juice X Bingos Sure Slide by Itsa Bingo Greyhound. That earned $1,698. Ginger Schmersal was just behind on Gold Digging Dun-nit (Pale Face Dunnit X Dun It Reining by Hollywood Dun It) with a score of 216.0 to earn $1,034 and the Re-serve L2 title.

2016 LEGACY SALE – A HUGE SUCCESS The Legacy Sale expanded this year – kicking off in a

big way on Thursday October 20. Not only was there a Yearling Preview at Cardinal Ranch in Aubrey, Texas with consignments available for preview all day, there was also a special Reining Clinic at Tom McCutcheon Reining Horses in Aubrey, Texas.

Named Reiners Giving Back, the clinic featured superstar instructors Tim McQuay, Casey Deary, and Jason Vanlandingham. It benefited the Reining Horse Foundation and Rein In Cancer, raising $2,800 each for the two charities. Sponsored by Pard’s South, the first-ever clinic was a huge success. “We were proud to be able to benefit these two worthy causes,” noted Sale Manager Mandy McCutcheon.

Friday was the day for the Legacy Breeders Yearling Sale and the sale began at 1 pm after a catered lunch and a morning of consignment preview. Kick-

ing off the sale was another special event for Rein In Can-cer. Domenico Lomuto and Slide Or Die Partners donated a breeding to Inferno Sixty Six as a Rein in Cancer fundraiser and that was purchased for $4000 by Tim Anderson.

The 2016 Reining International de Lyon and French Futu-rity begins today Wednesday, October 26th and runs through Sunday October 30th at the heart of the salon Equita’Lyon. It is the largest reining competition in France and one of the most important in Europe, which attracts the best international reiners every year. Around 170 horses will take part this year (about thirty more than last year). Ten different countries will be represented in the famous arena : Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Spain, the Czech Republic and France.

The highlights of the 2016 edition include the Equidia Reining International de Lyon Open ($ 35 000 added), with 21 participants, taking place during the afternoon of Saturday, October 29th, and the Reining International de Lyon Non Pro ($15,000 added) with 23 contestants, closing the salon on the afternoon of Sunday, October 30th.

The classes of the 2016 French Futurity, for 3 and 4 year olds, will also be popular. The prize money will reach nearly $30,000 this year and for the first time there will be 4 different levels. The Non Pro classes of the Futurity, sponsored by our partners KN REINING RESORT, have attracted 23 entries. In the Futurity Open, there will be twenty in the Futurity 3/4 year olds sponsored by 23 QUARTER HORSES, and 23 in the Futurity 3 year olds sponsored by VANO STABLES.

18 couples will take part in the first NRHA France Youth Challenge

Thanks to the support of sponsors VANO STABLES, FRANCE RABOTAGE, CA RANCH and GIRINON PER-FORMANCE HORSES, 18 stalls will be practically offered for the young NRHA France riders taking part in the new NRHA France Youth Challenge taking place on Sunday October 30th before the Reining International de Lyon Non Pro ! Last year only 7 French couples took part in the Youth classes. Our generous partners give the young French reiners the chance to compete in the same arena as the best European riders and gain precious experience for the future. The Youth

Challenge consists of a Youth 13 & Under class and a Youth 14-18 class both offering a Lawson trophy to the Champion.

The Reining Horse Foundation (RHF), the 501(c)3 nonprofit that cares for the reining community and honors the sport’s legacy, announces a special auction of two lots at the 2016 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity & Adequan North American Affiliate Champion-ship Show. Proceeds will benefit Foundation programs, which include the Crisis Fund, youth scholarships and the NRHA Hall of Fame. These items are specially designed to commemorative NRHA’s 50th Anniversary.

The Reining Horse Foundation lots will be auctioned in conjunction with the NRHA Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale, Friday, December 2, in Barn 3 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. Up for bid is a Silver Spurs Pinnacle Series Reining Saddle, the brand endorsed by top reining professionals like Andrea Fappani, Casey Deary and Jordan Larson, and donated by Michael Miola, Silver Spurs Equine, and Andreas Maschke. This show saddle is made with the high quality standards of Maschke in his own Texas saddlery using 100 percent U.S. materi-als, such as Hermann Oak Leather and custom made and

engraved sterling silver overlay saddle trim. The seat is made from elephant leather with an elegant, fully hand-carved

floral pattern. The silver trim and antique finish will make this saddle a focal point in the show ring or on display. Silver Spurs Saddles makes the official saddle of NRHA.

The second lot consists of a specially commissioned, one-of-a-kind buckle by Montana Silversmiths, the official silversmith of NRHA, paired with an NRHA Morrison bronze. Named for its maker, C.R. Morrison, the coveted sculpture was first presented in 1990. Its sculptor is a renowned artist who also rides and ap-

preciates reining horses. The plate inscription denotes NRHA’s 50-year milestone.

The Montana Silversmiths 50th anniversary collector’s buckle is solid sterling silver framed with a bold rope and bead edge accented with rose gold filigree and highlighted with gold flower clusters. It also features the superior quality of Swarovski crystals that are hand-set by mas-ter jewelers in Columbus, Montana. This limited edition buckle comes nestled in a glass enclosed wooden box with magnetic closure for a timeless showcase display.

Carol Rose, Gainesville, Texas is a renowned horse-woman with a well-rounded resume in the performance horse industry. A distinguished NRHA non pro competi-tor, Rose has made her mark through her much-heralded breeding program, promotion of the sport of Reining, support of the association’s youth and mentoring of many young trainers. Her program has produced NRHA Futuri-ty and Derby Champions, Hall of Famers, an NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire and winners of NRHA’s major events.

Rosanne Sternberg divides her time between Great Brit-ain and Aubrey, Texas. Sternberg is a staunch supporter of NRHA and the sport of Reining. An accomplished non pro rider, she has established a prominent breeding program, a highly-successful line of reining horses who have won virtually every NRHA major event, helped drive the careers of young trainers and Million Dollar Riders, supported International Reining, and served on the NRHA
