Haute CoutureThe term "haute couture" is French for high fashion. It has come to mean designing, creating, and selling custom-made, fashionable women's clothes.
Each outfit is one-of-a-kind and usually takes from 100 to 400 hours to make one dress and can cost as much as $100,000. Very few woman can afford these dresses. Many times these expensive dresses are loaned to celebrities so the designer can get noticed for their work.
Search online for pictures of
“breton lace headdress” and
you’ll find one of the most
extravagant collections of
french lace. but each region had
it’s own traditions and styles.
instead of making the bonnet shown,
design you own “lace” headpiece.

French Impressionist Painters
Impression, Sunrise by Claude Monet
Impressionism began in France about 150 years ago when young, talented artists decided to rebel against the established, more realistic art style. They began painting with very quick brush strokes to capture a moment in time. Art critics said that their work was merely "impressions" of reality and the name stuck. At the time, it was considered an insult.
25 years later, impressionism was very popular and many artists throughout the world were taking up the style.
