Our Faith Community

Spring Youth Group for Students in

Grades 5, 6 & 7

Our themes for the spring youth group were Easter, Divine Mer-cy, Fear & Trust in God, the 10 Commandments and a gym night.

We had a wonderful group of energetic and cooperative youth who were ready to have fun, but more importantly, were excited to share their faith and to look for answers to their many questions.

On our gym night everyone was invited to take the next step in their faith by attending Mass, being involved in ministry at Mass, and volunteering in our parishes. We had a pleasant surprise when every one of our participants was already involved or ready and excited to get involved. Please join us in praying that we will have the support of our parents to encourage their children to be part of our parish life.

That our website smshsarnia.ca gives you the option to sign up for “Pre-Authorized Giving” and “Online Giving”. With the use of

technology, donating to your Parish is easier than ever.

Don’t want to worry about having cash or a cheque for your offertory envelope? Sign up for Pre-Authorized Giving directly from your bank account on a weekly or monthly basis. It’s a simple way to ensure that supporting your parish continues even when you may not be able to make it to weekend mass.

Our online giving platform is through Canada Helps.org. It is a very user friendly process where you can donate as a one time gift, regularly scheduled giving, or to make a memorial donation. Your donation is charged to your credit or debit card. Canada Helps provides the Parish with a full Donor Listing. Your income tax receipt comes from Canada Helps.

You may wish to consider using one of these methods to make giving to your Parish easier. Please contact Cathy in the parish office with any questions. ([email protected] or ext. 22).

Coalition for HealthCARE And Conscience

If you signed up in February to participate in the Call for Con-science campaign you should have received a very easy to use email link this week inviting you to contact the candidates in your riding about these issues (you simply need to enter your postal code and the rest is taken care of for you). The three primary areas of concern are: legislative protection for healthcare professionals' conscience rights; continued conscience protection for faith-based facilities; and im-proved access to quality palliative care. The sign up campaign yielded nearly 50,000 people in Ontario Churches who are prepared to voice their concerns – 500+ from our parishes of St. Michael and Sacred Heart. If you did not receive the follow up link this week, please con-tact the office & we will follow up.

Note from Fr. Festus

Fr. Festus arrived home safe and sound and asked us to pass along his gratitude for the welcome & hospitality of the St. Michael & Sacred Heart parishioners. He also expressed his sincerest thanks for your generous financial support of his work in Nigeria. If you still wish to make a donation to support his projects, please make any cheques payable to either St. Michael or Sacred Heart Church and please put your donation in an envelope clearly marked, “Fr. Festus”.

2018 BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN

Last year the congregations of our supporting churches helped raise $23,459.92 for the ministry of the Pregnancy Centre through the Baby Bottle Campaign. and healing from a past abortion decision.

The bottles can be picked up at St. Michael Church on Sunday, May 13th and returned on Sunday, June 17th.

Please continue to partner with us by participating in this year’s Baby Bottle Campaign and continue to pray with us to accomplish what God wants to do in the lives of those in need of our services.

Sharing Faith and Life with Migrant Workers

"Migrants should find a homeland everywhere in the church". John Paul II

Creating a spiritual home away from home for the growing num-ber of Catholic migrant agricultural workers who live and work in Lambton County each year is the central purpose of Migrant Worker Ministry in the Sarnia-Lambton Deanery. Monthly Spanish masses and dinners are provided for some 60+ migrants in our midst from February to November. A dedicated team of volunteers provide rides, organizes priests and musicians, and prepares meals each month to welcome and spiritually support our sisters and brothers in Christ. All aspects of these events costs money, therefore we cannot do this without your help. Each year our parish family of St. Michael and Sacred Heart hosts a "Toonie Collection" in support of the Migrant Worker Ministry and once again we count on your support for this important ministry which supports the spiritual and fellowship needs of the workers.

The Migrant Worker Ministry volunteers and workers will be present at the 11 a.m. mass at Sacred Heart on June 10th to receive a blessing. The Toonie Collection will take place that weekend as well at both St. Michael & Sacred Heart churches. We welcome and thank you for your financial support and please feel free to stop by to say "hello" to the workers and volunteers at this mass.

If you wish to further support migrant workers in our deanery you can donate to the Migrant Worker Ministry as well as The St. Jo-seph Trust for migrant workers in distress (eg. catastrophic illness, injury or other forms of distress). Brochures are available at both churches.

Sarnia St. Vincent de Paul Food

Bank & Help Center

During May, the Food Bank received 387 calls for help from families. Many of these calls were for food. As well, several calls were for assistance in pay-ing rent or utilities such as hydro or gas and this came to $4,140.60. You can help these needy Sarnians by donating food which is needed at the food bank: canned peas and carrots, canned green and yellow and baked beans and school snacks. Monetary donations are also needed and can be put in the offertory collection; please specify that the donation is for the SARNIA St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank.

Thank you for your generous and continued support of your fellow Sarnians. Have a Holy, peaceful, and happy summer.
